3-4. Read in your manual how to condition your battery for longer life. Plus the more often you use it the longer it will hold a full charge. If you don't use it much, the maximum charge level will go down.Zactly. Great post. :) Hell it's so small I'm just gonna reprint it right here:

"MacBook Pro (all models), and MacBook Pro (17-inch) (all models)

The battery calibration for the PowerBook G4 (15-inch Double-Layer SD) and any model of MacBook or MacBook Pro has been updated because of a new battery released with this computer. With these computers, follow these steps to calibrate your battery:

1. Plug in the power adapter and fully charge your PowerBook's battery until the light ring or LED on the power adapter plug changes to green and the onscreen meter in the menu bar indicates that the battery is fully charged.
2. Allow the battery to rest in the fully charged state for at least two hours. You may use your computer during this time as long as the adapter is plugged in.
3. Disconnect the power adapter with the computer still on and start running the computer off battery power. You may use your computer during this time. When your battery gets low, you will see the low battery warning dialog on the screen.
4. Continue to keep your computer on until it goes to sleep. Save all your work and close all applications when the battery gets very low, before the computer goes to sleep.
5. Turn off the computer or allow it to sleep for five hours or more.
6. Connect the power adapter and leave it connected until the battery is fully charged again.

Tip: When the battery reaches "empty", the computer is forced into sleep mode. The battery actually keeps back a reserve beyond "empty", to maintain the computer in sleep for a period of time. Once the battery is truly exhausted, the computer is forced to shut down. At this point, with the safe sleep function introduced in the PowerBook G4 (15-inch Double-Layer SD) computers, the computer's memory contents have been saved to the hard drive. When power is restored, the computer returns itself to its pre-sleep state using the safe sleep image on the hard drive."

This sure does take a long time to do. My MBP finally lost all its charge so now its recharging. I wonder how long that will take? I'm anxious to use it again, I finally got Parallels installed so I want to mess with that some :D

Does anyone know how you can charge a MBP from a car? I'm so used to charging my ipod this way when I'm away camping, that I kinda assumed there must be a way to do it for a laptop too.

Gotta give them credit for originality - if not for the site then at least for their great bags!

Yeh the site isn't the most user friendly,. but the bags are 100% the best, on UK Gadget show a crumpler bag nearly won over a Panasonic Toughbook

Hey, somehow I missed this posting. That's great news that it's the Toshiba instead of the Fujitsu. The benchmarks are really pretty impressive despite 4200 rpm. I can now safely order the 200GB model. I typically always find my laptops run out of disk long before they start feeling too slow.

I'll get the 2.16/2GB/200GB model ... glossy (got used to it on my BlacBook, and can't go back).

As I've been saying, the 200GB is a no-brainer. And if you really care about the tiny differences in performance, make some smaller partitions, and/or regularly defragment. If you clog up that fast 100GB drive to 80% full, you've wasted your money.

I don't feel like going through 2000+ posts, but if anyone who wants to know, my C2D MBP gets pretty hot. It idles around 50C (122F) and I've had it to 77C (170F) doing intensive work (video editing).

External HD for the MBP

This might be a little off topic, but to help deal with the wait, what brand/model is recommended by you guys to be used with me brand new and shinny (soon to be here) MacBook Pro? I am looking for something reliable, silent, proven with a Mac, Firewire 800/400 - USB2, and about 250 or 300 GB. Any suggestions?

122? 170? Wow that seems a bit hot. I thought they fixed the heat issues. Maybe its the video editing?

Yup, right now I'm surfing and watching a video in Quicktime and it's at 120F, not bad at all. I got it up to 170 when rendering a 5 minute video in After Effects, but it didn't stay there very long, the fan kicked in and lowered it down to around 160F.

Toshiba Is $260 At NewEgg.com

Price of the Toshiba is $260 at NewEgg.com so Apple asking $200 for a swap out is not unreasonable. $200 looks like the right upgrade price. I know I always need more space.

Black Friday In 3 Weeks = Seagate 400 $100 + Acomdata FW400/USB2 Case $40 At Fry's

Black Friday is only 3 weeks from tomorrow. Just wait 'til Black Friday November 24 and get a bargain deal at Fry's. I bought four 400GB PATAs last weekend for $100 each. Then you buy - I have - an external FW case from Acomdata for $40 after rebate and you're good to go with 372GB (net) of backup space for only $140.

My Black Friday Trigger Pull List:

Seagate 500 SATA/300 or PATA/100 $125-$130 each
Seagate 750 SATA/300 or PATA/100 $200-$225 each

Hey guys! i just picked up my new macbook pro!!!

I'm excited!! this is my very first apple product so I just hope this nice machine does not let me down.

One question though........This is the first time I am face to face with an apple notebook, so I don't know wether this sound that is coming from the screen is normal. It's hard to describe for someone like me that does not speak english that well. The sound is very high pitched but not so loud. Like that kind of sounds that you don't know where its coming from but ts there. At first i didn't care but now after one hour it's getting on my nerves. I almost have headache.
This sounds depends on the brightness of the screen. If I set the birghtness to its max, the sounds almost becomes like a beep.

Serioulsy, I almost have a headache. I have to set the brightness to 1/4 to just being able to stand this sound.

is this usual?? if it is, any advice on how to recude the sound and not affect the brightness. Maybe I am just exagerating a bit, but I have never heard any laptop omit a sound like this.

Some help this new apple costumer. :)

Noisey DVD drive

How noisey is your MBP C2D dvd drive?
Mine is somewhat noisey while I reinstall the software.

Call AppleCare For Repair To Get Rid Of High Pitched Sound

Call AppleCare and arrange for a repair. Should not be making any sound like that.

The noise that comes from my dvd drive is ok. sounds pretty normal.

The screen is the problem with mine. it almost sounds like electricity if you know wat I mean.

anybody know if this is normal?

The airline adapter DOES NOT work in cars - i just got one today and it is expressly stated in the manual. :(

Thanks for the clarification. So we are supposed to carry 3 power sources so Apple can reap the value of their patent? On my PC laptop I have 1 power source that can connect to wall, air, car. This is a disappointment.
