Broken Already

I don't believe this! I've had my MPB for 23 hours and it's already broken!

The CD Drive which I said in an earlier post was making funny noises refuses to read the disk at all. I load the disk and two seconds later I get a sound that's similar to a stalled electric motor. I tried in OSX and Windows XP with the same problem so it's definitely a hardware problem.

I'm calling Apple right now.

WTF?

If true, this is huge news. Once they start doing that, there's no going back to 2.16GHz shipments so the entire MBP line looks to be going to all 2.33GHz Meroms.

If it's true, many people are going to be unhappy, including myself. If all of them moved to 2.33GHz version, I would expect to get some credit, I've only had my 2.33GHz one for a day and a half (which I ordered the day after release  ) and if they bumped the lower end ones to similar specs, I'll be pissed

I wouldn't put too much faith in 1 guy's story who admitted himself that it's probably just hearsay...I bet you those who ordered 2.16's will indeed get 2.16's.......

Noticed something interesting, if you log into the normal apple store, shipping on the 15 is 1-3 days, the edu institutional store shows 2-3 weeks, thats BS. I can understand doing that for orders placed with that that shipping from the get go, but it was 3-5 days when I ordered they then pushed me bak to 2-3 weeks after the 5 days were already up. Sorry to the other edu folks, but it looks like you should be prepared for your orders to be delayed if they havent already.

Well they want to fulfill the orders for the full prise ones first, because they are making more money. But if they promised 3-5 days and changed to weeks, I'd call and complain.

I agree to some extent, we may not pay full price, but I've also spent over $100,000 this year alone. As you said they originally told me 3-5 days, and orders are still shipping but my order was pushed back. If none were shipping, or they stated upfront 2-3 weeks I'd be ok, as such Ive been voicing my opinion to my Apple rep, We'll see what happens....

My apple education store (higher Ed) says shipping in 1-3 days for 15", same as the regular store. Though i did notice last week that it was 2-3 weeks on the ed store and 3-5 days on the normal store. whatever that means...

That's what the rep told me, but i also agree that it's probably bs - they bounced me around from rep to rep for an hour when all i wanted to know is why the order will take so long. In some ways Apple is just like any other company.

Re-install or remove unwanted modules?

So I am in possession of my new MBP C2D :D I am wondering if I should re-install to remove unneeded parts. I heard there is a utility that lets you remove parts you do not need. Can someone please tell me what utilities there are for this?

PS: it would have been nice if Mac System Pref. let you do this already

Grr me too! :(
just unpacked my MBP, could hardly fill out the registration stuff - spacebar keeps sticking, otherwise it's beautiful and (thankfully) no dead pixels.

Finally, it is here...

15", 2.33, 120GB HD, Matte. I got lucky (Hitachi HD). About 16GB used, so 93 free.

It feels a little "snappier" than my iMac G4 :)

The screen seems OK but I willkeep on eye on it.

Now, I did a simple test but I don't know why I am getting these results. I have the iMac and the MBP, but using Airport to connect to the Internet. If I go to Apple's website to watch the "Showtime" event, it runs seamlessly in the iMac, but in the MPB is full af artifacts, the sound gets cut, etc. Any ideas about why could this be happening?

Are you looking at the individual edu store or the institutional? I ordered through the latter, which shows 2-3 weeks for me.

Please, need to know if my MBP is the exception

I recieved my MBP two days ago (15/2.33/160/2GB). I'm very happy with it besides the one flaw. Right above the latch on the base of the machine where the top of the keyboard and the siding meet there is a CM or less of the siding that appears to be "bending" outwards ever so slightly.

Apple gave me the information to get a new Notebook but I don't know if it's worth it. It would essentially take another 3 weeks to get the replacement and I have a lot of "work load" on my plate that needs a machine like this. Anyone else notice the SLIGHT bending above the latch button? Usually you can only notice the defect by putting your eyes to the corners of the machine looking towards the opposite side. I don't know what to do, I'm a perfectionist, I hate it sometimes.

Advice?

Good Call!

So tomorrow Tuesday November 7 will be MacBook and mini C2D release day, I think. Anyone else believe that?I forgot about that. You're right. Maybe Wednesday or Thursday.

You called it last week, I think.

I wonder if they redesigned the vents in the back of the new MB, as well. And I trust they've done a number of small tweaks to take care of rev A problems.

Makes no sense to release a new product when you cant keep up with the demand for the last one released, Now Im really Pissed off.

According to Macworld, the new C2D MBPs are not that much cooler than their hot-headed predecessors: http://www.macworld.com/2006/11/firstlooks/mbptemps/index.php?lsrc=mwrss.

Maybe those often-photographed, proudly displayed and enthusiastically acclaimed rear-end vents are not quite as revolutionary as certain multi-media types around here believe them to be ;)

Well, all I can go in is personal experiences, not necessarily a bunch of numbers on Macworld's site. And I can tell you that with the old CD MBP's, when I would try them on the store, they were blisteringly hot to the touch, especially on the left-side of the keyboard after running for a while, and the bottoms were also insanely hot. With my new C2D MBP, I have rarely felt the top of it be anything more than slightly warm, and the bottom under normal use has also just stayed in the warm range.

That is all that matters to me, and it seems pretty clear that improvements were made.

Original ship by was Nov. 2.

Changed specs on Oct 30th to 160GB and this changed the ship by to Nov 7th.

Shipped on Nov. 8th to be delivered to SoCal by Nov. 14th.

Hope this info helps!

BTW: First time poster and this is my first Mac! The huge WAF of the apple design contributed greatly to this... :)

Your anger would be well justified if we were taking Apples and Apples, so to speak. But the MacBook has reportedly been made by Asustek and the MBP by Quanta, and now Foxconn has been thrown into the mix.

The machines also have different processors and different displays, and probably different batteries--each which can bring with them their own supply nightmares. If you have ever been involved in manufacturing, you'll know how a shortage of just one little tiny part can totally screw up your best plans.

On the plus side, you are getting an incredible machine, so hopefully, the wait will be worth it.

I noticed the same thing on my intstitutional store... It's BS and the apple reps don't seem to have any clue what's going on. When I told this to our rep he said "Oh really, that is strange".

I would be ok with that, but they are shipping orders placed long after mine. So there seems to be no shortage of screws.
