No more Windows Kepler drivers development:
But Kepler in Windows 10 is still supported?

Is there a PC that supports Windows 7 that won't support Windows 10? Microsoft is better at making its OS work with old computers since they're not using dropped support in OS upgrades as an excuse to make people buy a new computer, unlike Apple.

Still supported in windows 10 just no new driver development.

Hi all

Trying to install a Radeon RX 5600 XT 6GB on cMP 5.1 (flashed 4,1) running Catalina via Open Core but no video signal.

Everything was running fine with the previous RX580 4GB. I checked the (very awesome) Definitive Mac Upgrade Guide and it looked like Pixlas mod was not required for RX 5600 XT. So I'm powering it with a 2x mini 6 pin to 8 pin cable. The GPU lights are on and I can hear OS running but there's no video output.

The 5600 XT is the gaming top edition (I think that means it came overclocked) and minimum spec is 450W. I don't really want to Pixlas mod, but is power the issue? Is there a way to confirm its not some other issue before I head down this Pixlas mod path?

Thanks!

1. Can you remote to your cMP to check if the video card is recognized in System Prefenrence?
2. Don't you think the new graphic cards need some new kext injection to get the cMP understand what port to output video signals?

Thanks Nguyen Duc Hieu. I don't think a kext is required. According to the Definitive Mac Upgrade Guide "Modern AMD GPUs are plug-n-play" as long as I'm "running an OS new enough to include drivers for that specific GPU." which I am (Catalina). I'm not familiar with how to remote to my cMP. How do I do that?

According to this thread (post #1) your GPU is supported beginning with Big Sur 11.4 (which is not supported on a MP 4,1/5,1 ) :
Navi GPUs with the following device IDs are supported beginning with macOS 10.15.1:
-7310: Radeon Pro W5700X
-7312: Radeon Pro W5700
-7318: Unknown
-7319: Unknown
-731A: Unknown
-731B: Unknown
-731F: Radeon RX 5600, 5600 XT, 5700, 5700 XT, 5700 XT 50th Anniversary, & 5700M
-7340: Radeon RX 5500, 5500 XT, 5300M, & 5500M
-7341: Radeon Pro W5500
-7343: Unknown
-7347: Radeon Pro W5500M

If I understand that part correctly... it should work with 10.15.1 and above

Hi guys, I need to upgrade from High Sierra to Mojave because my Lightroom can't be updated anymore and I am looking for a new GPU. Maybe you guys could give me some advice what I should buy. I have a GTX 1080 and was pretty happy with the performance. The only reason why I have to make the switch is the Adobe Suite. What would be the best pick? I don't know if I will like the loss of performance with the 580 but I all my hard drive bays are in use so the Vegas can't get additional power right? The prices for the 5700 XTs are crazy and I don't know if its worth it to me.

Which one of the cards would be a nice "last upgrade" pick since I have enough ram and already ordered a new cpu? Thanks guys

Thanks, I know about the lists and the closest cards to my GTX 1080. I just hoped for some real life experiences how much a downgrade to the 580 would affect my performance or if its really worth it to consider the Vega 56/64 or even a 5700 XT

The Vega 56/64/FE should be powered with the Pixlas Mod.
So you will not lose any SATA bays because of additional power.

For additional info about AMD GPUs:

I heard about that but I don't feel confident to strip those wires. I could probably do it but I don't see myself putting that amount of effort into it. I would need to get the cables shipped from US to Europe etc.. I would probably be fine with an external psu for the time being.

RX 580 with Mac Edition vbios mod is the best Mojave GPU for the cMP without pixlas mod. It will be great for Lightroom. Probably better to get a new Mac though that can run Monterey, such as a 6,1 with D700s, a 7,1, or iMac Pro. A 16GB M1 Mac might be okay too, but the GPU is weaker than the 6,1 GPUs.

But probably slower than the 1080. Maybe its the right choice for now and ill wait until prices go back to normal. Which version of the 580 or the 56 is best for the Mac Pro? Sapphire Nitro?

Ill probably go with the 580 or the Vega 56 without any mods. Depending on what prices I am able to get on one of those cards.

The one Apple developed a frame-buffer personality for is the Sapphire Pulse RX 580. No reason to go with a faster GPU unless you're playing games, but in that case just build a cheap gaming PC and put the 1080 in it. Vega 56 is kind of hard to find now unless you buy used and needs pixlas mod.

I see. Probably makes sense. Would it make any noticeable difference if I pick the Sapphire Nitro+ RX580 8GB over the Pulse version?

I think the Nitro+ would be fine with the Mac rom mod to get the Orinoco frame buffer. There’s a DIY on the forum: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...x580-pulse-into-the-mac-edition-card.2101909/
Bought a Nitro+ for 275€ and 2x X5677 for 25€ and put them in today. Gained about 25% in Single Core and 15% in multi core. Forgot to Geekbench the GTX 1080 but the Nitro+ got 127557 on OpenCL. So far I am ok with loosing some gaming performance by gaining the updates. Thanks guys for your input! Helped convince me to not get the pricier upgrade. Maybe later down the line but who knows how long the 5,1s are still around.

P.S. The card got recognised immediately in the About My Mac section. Do I have any advantage of doing the rom mod or can I upgrade to 10.14 with the firmware upgrade installer straightaway?

You can update right away. The Orinoco frame buffer only gives slightly better compatibility. It allowed earlier support over other RX 580 in earlier macOS releases (Sierra). It doesn't make a big difference with Mojave.
