Not a good idea from the start, first the shipping charges and taxes, also who is gonna help you when anything happens?tsialex..... can I send you my computer or my SSD if that would work?, LOL
Yes, I agree also with this. I'm just too stupid to install, acquire (???) OC. Every time I try it fails. Sip, Pram, Core configuration, yada, yada, yada, LOL. I just gave up on it.
Just joking really.....I have my 6,1 thoughNot a good idea from the start, first the shipping charges and taxes, also who is gonna help you when anything happens?
If you want to use a MacPro5,1 in 2022, you need to learn how to do it yourself or pay for support locally. Resources to do it yourself are available, there are even point and click options like OCLP.
WhateverThen just stay on Mojave
Just joking really.....I have my 6,1 though
Whatever
You say you REALLY don't want OpenCore, for whatever reason (but you want Catalina).Oh wasn't offended at all. I just don't care for OC, since I don't need it. I have actually been trying to reinstall Catalina on my 12 core. My hdd quit on me, and no I didn't have a back up, so I had to reinstall Mojave. I have 2 Mac Pro 6,1 that I run Monterey on so I don't really need OC to do that. I have a 4,1 quad that is flashed to 5,1 & the firmware to 1.44.0.0.0.0 on both so have Mojave on both also. I have had nothing but problems trying to get Catalina on them and I can't figure out why since I had it installed when it first came out. Now I just get an error code and other times will get the 15,7 can't be installed on this computer. I will probably end up selling both of them but just trying to get Catalina both of them. I've probably run dosdudes patch 10 times with no success on the OS install. I can see one machine doing it but not both. No one on here seems to have a solution just to run OC, no offense intended either, which I don't want anyway. If I planned to keep them and didn't have the 6,1s, yeah, I would try to really do the OC thingy. But I appreciate your reply and help.
Was thinking more like the 6600XT (2.0-2.2 slot card depending on variant) since it only needs 1 8pin power connector and is supported in Monterey 12.1. Seems like the next possible upgrade path for the RX 580 for those of us without the pixlas mod.If you mean 6x00 series like 6800XT, 6900XT in a cMP (2009, 2010, 2012), unfortunately it has been a no go.

No one ver got a NAVI 2x GPU, RX 6x000 series of graphic cards, working with a MacPro5,1. Install the card and your Mac Pro won't POST. Don't matter if is via PCIe or Thunderbolt, MacPro5,1 won't work with a NAVI 2x GPU.Was thinking more like the 6600XT (2.0-2.2 slot card depending on variant) since it only needs 1 8pin power connector and is supported in Monterey 12.1. Possibly try a Sapphire or Asrock variant if I can find 1 priced appropriately. The worst that could happen is it doesn't work and I put it in my PC. Could try the card under Linux on the cMP 5,1 too.
Yes, I'm aware of what thread it is. Hope it didn't ruin your day having to read it. My having or not having OC is my business for WHATEVER reason. Don't concern yourself over it. FWIW, I installed OC and running Monterey on my 112 core, 5,1. You have a nice day, OK.......You say you REALLY don't want OpenCore, for whatever reason (but you want Catalina).
Surely using the dosdude patch is just as 'sketchy' as OpenCore.....?
It may well be fine and dandy, but I am a 'tinhat' user, and only install legit versions from source.
Plus this is the gpu thread.....
Interesting. Thanks. No one ver got a NAVI 2x GPU, RX 6x000 series of graphic cards, working with a MacPro5,1. Install the card and your Mac Pro won't POST. Don't matter if is via PCIe or Thunderbolt, MacPro5,1 won't work with a NAVI 2x GPU.
Navi 1x, RX 5x000 series of graphic cards works fine with a MacPro5,1.
Navi 2x, works fine with MacPro6,1 via Thunderbolt.
Absolutely, so stop posting about it , this is not even the topic here.My having or not having OC is my business for WHATEVER reason.
Don't you think that if uncountables succesfully installed either OC or the Dosdude patched install , you may be overseeing something and/or executing something incorrectly? No one on here seems to have a solution just to run OC, no offense intended either, which I don't want anyway.
If you buy one that have the same output configuration (same personality) as a the original Sapphire Pulse RX 580, yes.Would a RX580 work without any mods/flashing on a mid 2012 5,1 running OC Big Sur - most importantly 3 monitors?
I currently have a flashed 2GB GTX 680 all 3 monitors work without any issues.
FWIW I run three 4k displays from a RX570 with three DP and one HDMI ports, but it seems RX580 is different in this regard? The cost reduced Sapphire Pulse RX 580 without the DVI output, and any models from other manufactures that don't follow the same personality as the original Sapphire Pulse, won't work with 3 displays.
This depends on the internal arrangement of the GPU ports, the Sapphire Pulse RX580 cost reduced don't match the personality of Sapphire Pulse.FWIW I run three 4k displays from a RX570 with three DP and one HDMI ports, but it seems RX580 is different in this regard?
It will run Mojave as it is and you will need to use OpenCore anyway, so boot screen will not help. Also, you can not make a RX 580 out of RX 480.Does anyone have a link for instructions on how to flash a AMD Radeon RX 480 to Radeon RX 580 firmware so that I can run Mojave and have a boot screen? Its a PC card.
PS I have never flashed graphics card before.
I myself use the standard RX 580.It will run Mojave as it is and you will need to use OpenCore anyway, so boot screen will not help. Also, you can not make a RX 580 out of RX 480.
While many of these cards can be flashed to boot under 10.14.6, after that they will not.
I myself use the standard RX 580.
But the GPU thread discusses that the RX480 can be flashed with RX 580 firmware, which results in a card almost as fast as my RX 580. Although I've read there is not much difference in performance anyway. Memory on the card and what apps you use, is likely more important than upgrading the firmware - IMO.
