I've read through most of this and heard of success with the just following the first post. i didn't notice anyone say a mp11 was good to go. maybe you guys can let me know.

I used to use this with a 1,1 (flashed to a 2,1) but the kext was broken for a Nvidia cards after 10.9.3 if I remember correctly. Not sure about AMD cards but just install it and give it a try. It is easy to uninstall.

well i gave it a try with my mp1,1 with HDMIAudio1.0 and the HDMIAudio1.1 and it was a fail, but the HDMIAudio1.1 i DLed varied drastically in size so not sure if the HDMIAudio1.1 i have is the same and andrew** gave out. So if i have the right 1.1 then it fail if its not then it may still possible work.

when i get a chance this weekend i will try it on an MP2,1 ... i hope i have better luck on that one.

A 1,1 and a 2,1 are basically the samething. You can upgrade the processors in a 1,1 to the same ones that are in a 2,1 and then flash the 2,1 firmware making it a 2,1.

Why not just attach images instead of linking that will get broken in a month or two?

Actually, it's already broken as I show in the following attachment.

GREAT NEWS!!!!

The latest NVIDIA driver update 346.01.01f01 fixes HDMI audio with this kext. I installed the driver and restarted and it was working.

hennesie2000,

i tried poping an apple ati radeon 5770 (2 mdp ports 1 dvi )in one of the mp1,1 that i have at home.
tried using the mdp to hdmi. but it doesn't pop the sound out. i did check the preferences first to see if it would give me any new options, but sadly no new options. any idea on what else i can try to get sound out. like a kext update or something I'm not thinking of ?

What version of this kext are you using? Unfortunately I haven't dealt with an AMD card since my X1900XT died for the 3rd time while it was still under warranty so I may not be much help.

I installed the package on my system (as listed in signature below) and System Report indicated that the driver is now installed. It went off without a hitch.

It did not put an HDMI output selection in the sound settings or the MIDI settings.
(perhaps because I didn't have an HDMI connection to anything?)

Also, it did cause an increase in speed to cooling fans (either video card or system fans, I don't know which).

Running the removal commands did return the fans to normal.

You don't really need an HDMI device to know if it's working.

I am now using the ACD, there will be an extra option (DisplayPort) in the sound preference if the driver is working properly.

Alas still no luck with my flashed 4,1 and GTX 980. Using HDMI audio 1.1 and 346.01.01f01.

Also, I would think that seeing DP output to your ACD would be unrelated to this mod. The Apple Cinema Displays accept audio input through both USB and MiniDisplayport, and will show both options so long as your card supports it. Those options have remained visible on my Mac Pro, but my HDMI connected speakers haven't been detected since I left Kepler and moved to Yosemite :(

Oh, I didn't realise that. From memory, I did't have the display port option until I install this HDMI audio kext in Mavericks.

Thanks for correcting me, may be I mess up something :p

Anyway, after I install Yosemite. I didn't try to connect my 4,1 to the TV anymore. So, I am not 100% sure if the HDMI audio still working on my machine actually.

AFAIK this kext is required to have audio out through DP on a 3rd party GPU. Similarly you can also use audio out through the DVI port on the card and it is treated as an HDMI connection by OS X.

Hopefully this is still on topic but here it goes.

My MP came with 10.8 installed and a Apple supplied AMD 5870. I don't have the owners book off hand, but I'm pretty sure it stated that audio digital out with the HDMI port was supported.

I don't ever recall seeing "driver installed" YES in the profiler for the Audio support circuitry. Also, I never had an HDMI option in sound output even with the genuine Apple 5870.

Now, after upgrading to the MVC/AMD HD 7970 and Yosemite, and reading this thread I decided to install the kext just to see if it would work. It seemed to work as far as the system profiler goes (it reported driver installed). As reported above, it seemed to cause the fan speed to increase slightly (the fans were louder, but I didn't use anything to check the fan speeds). Also, it didn't report any additional devices for output in the sound settings.

Would the sound settings show the option for HDMI output even though I didn't have any HDMI?

I'm a little aggravated that Apple doesn't have a built in HDMI audio driver built into the OS.

Does the nMP with it's ATI cards support HDMI out of the box?

If it is working you will have HDMI reported under Audio-Devices in System Information:

Here is more information on support for HDMI/DP audio out:
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202079

Thanks for the info. According to that page and my owners handbook, HDMI audio is supported OOTB but it's never been available as an output device since I purchased it new.

Okay, updated 10.10.2 to latest version and now using the latest NVIDIA driver 346.01.01f01. Reinstalled the kext (using the 1.1 btw) but no difference. If I run the following in the Terminal
Code:
sudo kextutil /System/Library/Extensions/HDMIAudio.kext

I get:

Code:
Diagnostics for /System/Library/Extensions/HDMIAudio.kext:
Code Signing Failure: not code signed
kext-dev-mode allowing invalid signature -67062 0xFFFFFFFFFFFEFA0A for kext "/System/Library/Extensions/HDMIAudio.kext"

Any ideas? Thanks! :)

Hey can anyone help me out? I hooked up my Asus Strix GTX 970 HDMI to a 5.1 Onkyo receiver. In Windows, I get full 5.1 surround sound. In OS X Yosemite however, it does not seem to be working properly.

In audio midi settings I have HDMI set to 5.1 surround and it detects each individual speaker just fine. When I play a video file in VLC I just change the audio to HDMI (Encoded Output) and then it works in 5.1. But on YouTube or iTunes it won't play in 5.1, ONLY stereo. Please help.
