Great guide

Hello,

Just wanted to say that this is a great guide. It helped me jailbreak a 1.1.2 OTB. Thx for this and I really hope that you will post soon enough a way of dealing with the sim problem.

Please Help !!!

I have a UK O2 activated iPhone on 1.1.2, I have tried to jailbreak it, and after 2 days of trying I have finally given up. I have followed every step for like 6 times now :( . My problem is, I get upto step 12 fine, then when I am on 1.1.1 a pop up appears that says 'waiting for activation' which never succeeds. I have tried leaving it at that over-night but actiavtion doesnt seem to go thru on 1.1.1 ( it takes under a min in 1.1.2). So I have had to cancel it everytime. Then wen I connect to iTunes and click update, iTunes goes to extracting... preparing iPhone... the phone then reboots to the Itunes logo with connecter screen and update fails with error 1602. Used IPHUC to get out of this screen, but update to 1.1.2 still fails. After that when I restart iTunes the only option I get is to restore. I am not sure what I am missing here... pls help.

Everyone is reporting this issue but the fact of it is you have to keep trying. The reason why you screen is just going black is because it is just on standby after a minute. What you need to do if you do not see the Apple logo come up after you have pressed on install appsnapp you need to turn it off manually after about a minute which you do by keeping hold of the sleep/wake button until the slide to power off comes up and then you power it off. After that you turn the device back on and it should within 12 seconds or so turn itself back off and the apple logo will come up which means that it has been successful. You need to try this step a few times.

Sam I'd like to add some info on step 12 if that's OK. I followed your guide last night and went through about 3 hours of frustration with step 12, however I did something that made it work and hope it works for you all to.

Before you go to jailbreakme.com by using the *#307# method put your phone back into the cradle and open up itunes until it sees your iphone and the screen is talking about activating your phone. then while the phone is still in the cradle go to the jailbreakme site and install appsnap. Reboot your pc (as itunes will keep up the registration screen until a pc reboot) then follow the rest of the steps in the guide.

I only found this out as I was about to restore to default after trying unsuccessfully to get appsnap on my phone for the 20th time and decided to try it one more time before I restored. Worked first time :D

hi sam im trying to jailbreak my iphone and im now at the last step, when i pluged my iphone in to update it to 1.1.2 it would only let my restore it so i did and after it restored it it asked me to update to 1.1.2 which i did but the phone is not in activation mode its at it normal home page is it ok to go ahead and jailbreak it?
thanks

If you had to restore asfter installing the oktoprep then something went wrong. You have to update on this stage because oktoprep installs files that are needed to jailbreak 1.1.2 and restoring would delete these. You need to be on 1.1.1 and install installer again and start again basically.

Regards

ok so far it works great but when i get to the part where u connect to safari it keeps saying that safari can not find the server. i am connected to the wifi so i dont know how to fix this.....

SWEET!!!!! ok i got past that part by plugging it back in to itunes and was able to complete the process!! u guys are GREAT!!! One more question, do i need to leave SSH installed on my iphone?

First of all I just want to thank you guys for this idiot proof step by step guide. It helped me alot with my OTB 1.1.2 UK iPhone.

But I'm having trouble with the install icon.

I have successfully downgraded to 1.1.1
After trying to download the jailbreak installapp for about 3 straight days I finally got it yesterday evening. I was estatic, until I got to the springboard and didn't see the installer icon. Tried reinstalling the installapp from the jailbreakme site but again without the success I would like to see.

Does anyone here had the same problem? I've tried google and browsed somewhere around 15 different forums and what I get from reading post there is that either I could not be able to get past the activation screen like I have or that I shouldn't have any problem unlocking it full time.

I know you guys get alot of posts from people having problem with this and that but I have made an genuine effort to search different forums and websites but I haven't found anyone with this exact issue?

With extreme thanks in advance,
BlueGG

Could someone answer a couple questions please

I brought a US 1.1.2 OTB iphone from USA recently. Did not get a SIM, just got the phone.
I'd like to unlock it to use it with a Optus in Australia.
I've read the tutorial and it references using the SIM that came with the phone? Is it going to be possible to do this without the SIM.

Could you also breifly explain what the Jailbreak does? Does it allow me to use the phone with any telco?

Thanks, Have just started looking into this and some help to get up to speed would be greatly appreciated.

Brett

Can someone help me please.

I have jailbroken my o2 iphone contract phone which is great but for a few weeks now i havent managed to fix the edge/voicemail settings! I have looked at all the guides but i can only get to the putty command screen and when i do the ssh root@192.168.1.8 (random ip) and then try putting the alpine password in it says "access denied" what am i doing wrong? i havent changed the default alpine password but why is putty telling me access denied when i am typing in the correct password?? the iphone ip address is the same address for the wifi conection that i am using right? if not then why is my iphone ip the same as the house wifi ip?

please can someone help

Wow!!!!!

After trying out various different ways to jailbreak my phone - I came across this guide and all I can say is WOW!!

This guide is very very clear, concise and it bloody well works!! I cannot tell you how many times I have nearly screwed up my iPhone using unstable methods - but I am now able to install 3rd party apps on my phone and I am just AMAZED!!! :D

Thank you SO much for providing us with this very useful information - I hope other people have the same success as me :)

I cannot thank you enough - you're a star!! :)

Lesley

Your all welcome for the guide.

There currently is no unlock for otb 1.1.2 so stop trying to unlock it. Only was is with a turbo sim so no jailbreaking does not unlock to all networks

Sam,

I successfully got through your procedure to unlock my iPhone. It is 1.1.2 OTB. I undestand that today there is no unlock for the SIM card. What i get as problem, is that I cannot synch my iPhone. I am trying to load photos into it. Is there something I am doing wrong?

Thanks,

Marc.

Got it. I cleared all the history and got it to work again.

not sure about your visual voicemail but for the edge network follow these steps (for O2 UK)

1) Make sure that data roaming is turned on under Settings ->General -> network
2) in the same part ( Settings ->General -> network) go into the edge menu and input the following:

APN: mobile.o2.co.uk
Username: vertigo
Password: password

as for your password problems, are you sure you haven't changed the settings in the SSH on the springboard? either way you can either try the password as 'dottie' which I believe is the other standard password, or go into terminal and change it by typing 'passwd'

Your iphone ip address is not the same as your pc supplying the wifi, at least it shouldn't be - double check your iphone ip address under Settings ->General -> About to make doubly sure you're trying to connect to the iphone.

Visual voicemail will not work because it is specific to the actual o2 contract. Why dont you just use the normal voicemail like everyone else does.

By the way if your photos will not sync it might be because if you are using Windows vista there has been reported problems with syncing with photos on

Stuck at #2, waiting for recovery

Hi,

I'm about to start ripping my hair off in frustration. I'm stuck at stage 2 of your tutorial, waiting for the iPhone to stop "recovering" from the 1.1.1 FW file in iTunes. iTunes just say "waiting for iPhone" and the iPhone just displays the apple and a spinning process wheel. It's been over and hour and a half now and nothing happens. Am I just to impatient or is something wrong? Anyone remember how long this process this took you?

Eagerly waiting response! Thank you!

Visual Voicmail won't work after jailbreak??

Thanks for this tutorial Sam. I can't wait to get back home and try it out. I hope it goes through without any trouble.

Just had a question regarding visual voicemail. I don't understand why visual voicemail would stop working after jailbreaking the iphone. I currently have an O2 iphone contract. After jailbreaking I will continue using this contract with the same SIM and everything. so why would O2 then stop access to visual voicemail? Or have I just completely misunderstood what you were trying to say? please help as I really like visual voicemail and don't want to lose that functionality.

Also, does edge and The Cloud wifi for uk o2 iphone customers continue to work as before?

Thanks for you help.

something definately sounds wrong, try sticking it back in recovery mode and restoring again?

I got past it! :) Downloaded the file with firefox instead of Safari and then changed the file ending to .zip to open it up with BOMArchiehelper. That extracted the file into a folder with the firmware files in it. Then I changed the ending back to .ipsw of the original file and put it IN the folder. Then when I "option clicked" on restore in iTunes, I picked that one.

Now my phone is a JAILEBREAKED 1.1.2 SWEEEEEEEET!!!! 12 hours of work finally paid of!!! Also got stuck a little further ahead. Couldn't update to 1.1.2 the first 2 times I tried. Got some random error message. I'm not sure exactly what fixed it but I installed SSH through iNdependence and then tried again, that time it worked. Now it works great!!

Next stop TurboSIM!!!

visual voicemail will still work if you are on the O2 iphone contract - my phone is fully jailbroken with my iphone sim and it still works perfectly ;)
