Ohhh. I didn’t read that. I’m so dumb. I didn’t realize I needed both.
Don't worry, now that you know, good luck upgrading to iOS 15.7.2.

Any more questions I'll be happy to help here as I'm not busy this evening.

Damn can’t get it because I am not willing to spend the fee for Imazing. Is there any way to not spend money? iOS 15 is blazing fast still

Installing macOS on a virtual machine software is an option, however I can't guarantee if USB connection will work properly.

Thx man it worked .. Just done updating my iPhone xs max to iOS 15.7.2

1- downloaded iOS 15 developer beta profile
2- Prepared the delayed OTA profile and downloaded it on my iPhone
3- Entered supervised mode using iBackupBot on windows (You can find it on supervise ‘dot’ me .. with explanation on how to enter supervised mode)

I actually did it the opposite way and it worked ;) .. downloaded the profiles, installed them then entered supervised mode.
This confuses me because when entering supervised mode you are asked to erase all data, which means including profiles are also deleted.

Maybe the iPhone has found a way to save these files though, I don't know 🤷‍♀️

Maybe because I used iBackupBot to enter supervised mode and for some reason I was not asked to erase all data 😄.

If someone uses iBackupBot maybe he can confirm.

I used iBackupBot and was not required to erase.
For the first time, I know that can enter supervised mode without erasing the iPhone 😲

One more question, do you have to erase when exiting supervised mode? If not, I'd be happy to try it soon, as backing up and restoring lots of photos and re-downloading apps is too time-consuming for me, so I haven't updated to 15.7.2 myself, although I wrote this guide 😏.

I think iBackupBot does wonders 😂.

Nope, you don’t need to erase anything because once you finish updating OTA your iPhone will be out of supervised mode automatically.

Note: when you enter supervised mode you will be greeted with hello screen on your iPhone and then you will be required to enter your apple id (Just skip adding your apple id and continue setting up your iPhone << this step is to prevent your iPhone from checking for the latest iOS update directly from apple).
Once you are on your home screen you will see all of your apps and files are still there just go to update OTA like you normally do 😉.

Thanks for this guide!
The iBackupBot method by restoring a special supervised backup resulted in a complete new device being booted, so I must have done something wrong.
Strangely enough, supervised mode wasn't needed at all for my SE2020 with iOS 15.7:
- I transferred and installed the two mobileconfig files (transfer with Apple Configurator, install manually on device)
- Rebooted
- Instead of iOS 16.2 the available update is now 15.7.2 (4,68 GB)

(...) but iOS 16 local backups cannot be restored to iOS 15, which means, yes, you'll lose everything (...)
Modifying the "Info.plist" of a local backup should work:
The "Product Version" should be changed from a.e. 16.1 to 15.7.
I've only tried this method to restore a 15.7.2 backup to a 15.6 install.

So, it will automatically exit supervision mode? It's interesting.

Are you sure that "This iPhone is supervised and managed by XXXX" is not displayed on your iPhone Settings app after you exit?

You can always get the 15.7.2 release via the beta profile since it's always up to date, but you can't install it because it's unsigned.

Believe me, I tried installing about a day after it stopped signing and it failed.

The point of using a delayed ota is to go back in time when it was still signed so you could install it.

It's possible, but I've never tried doing it in a major release, because unexpected problems can happen there.

Thanks for the reminder though, those who really need it can test it themselves.

You're right. It finally failed. Naive me had high hopes because on my iPad I could install iPadOS 15.7.2 today although 16 was also available.

All available iPads have the option to update to either 15.7.2 or 16.2, I think the reason is because iPadOS 16 didn't release as expected, it was released with iOS 16.1, so there is an additional version available there.

But that doesn't mean the same for iPhone, for iPhone 8 and later, there is no 15.7.2 out there, although they did develop it.

And there is some evidence that blocking the iPhone 8 and later from getting iOS 15.7.2 seems to have been the last decision, as they briefly allowed people to upgrade to 15.7.2 when 15.7.2 and 16.2 were officially released, but only for a few hours, and only a few lucky guys did it.

So actually by delaying ota people can even get 15.7.2 final/official version without getting RC because there is a window of hours but calculating that window and getting the update in the right time is too difficult for most people already, so I have no intention of letting anyone do this.

Of course, it is also very important that 15.7.2 RC is exactly the same as the final/official version 15.7.2. there is no saying that one version is better than the other, because they are the same. conduct the final quality review in the beta channel, and release to the final/official version after confirming that there are no problems.

Thanks so much @DuckMe for all the effort into this guide and responses throughout the thread. And also a big thanks to all the other contributors. It was all very helpful for me to complete the process going from 15.7.1 to 15.7.2 on my iPhone SE 3.

At first, I was hitting a wall with the delay.mobileconfig file, but it was my own formatting error in the textedit (forgetting to change from rich text to plain text) and then forgetting to remove txt ending before sending by email. 😆
After I fixed those things, it worked perfectly.

The beta profile installed just fine.

For the supervise process, even though I am a paid user of iMazing, I didn’t want the hassle of wiping the phone to supervise, which seems to be required on the app. The iBackupBot idea was very helpful to avoid having to wipe the phone to go supervised. I was able to borrow a PC for the iBackupBot process, since the Mac version of the app doesn’t work with later macOS versions. On the PC, I downloaded latest version of iTunes (non windows store version), trusted the PC on my iPhone, downloaded the iBackupBot app and followed the supervise process (not sure what can be discussed on that here so leaving it there). Once it was rebooted and in supervise mode, I could disconnect my device from the computer and went to software updates after carefully going through the prompts (NO data transfer, NO signing in). The 15.7.2 update was there (showed as over 4GB update on my device). Toggled off check for updates and installed 15.7.2. Had my fingers crossed when update was verifying 😄, then it finally updated.

At least on my phone, not only was I out of supervised mode after I updated to 15.7.2, but both profiles seem to also be gone. Not sure if that was automatically supposed to happen, but everything is working very well.

The only thing that took a bit extra time was that all the apps had to be re-downloaded and then there were several apps that needed to be updated again through the App Store after the initial app downloads. I also had to re-setup my wallet and enable find my again. But all the other data seems to have stayed intact including Touch ID.

I would say for anyone looking to do this to read carefully all the posts because there are important considerations at every step.

Yes, I noticed gaps in the original guide, and since updating the original guide would lead to the inevitable entry into moderator review, that's why I'm reluctant to update it.

But as this thread is getting longer, I think I must to update it to provide the most correct way to upgrade to iOS 15.7.2.

Note: I will update this thread later today (December 22nd), I'll be busier going into the holidays, so I'm going to miss an update, Merry Christmas.
Expected updates are:
I'll use the cleaner profile template provided in #8
Provide as much detail as possible for entry into supervised mode
Add a hint that you can import profiles directly from your computer
Add a third way to enter supervised mode - iBackupBot

It is expected that this thread will disappear for a period of time after the update, and it will not appear again until the moderator has reviewed its content to comply with the forum rules.

So, if you need to read it later, save the webpage locally, save as a PDF (most browsers can do this)

This guide is now updated, Merry Christmas 😎

I'm on 15.7.2 RC , how would i do a clean DFU RESTORE
The short answer is you can't, iOS 15.7.1 and iOS 15.7.2 for iPhone 8 and newer only provide OTA firmware, although there are ipsws there for restore, but they never got signed, so it doesn't work.

If you need to do DFU, use 15.6 RC1 restore ipsw to do it, and then upgrade from 15.6 RC1 OTA to 15.7.2, this is currently the only way.

But please note that for most users on the stable channel, even updating from 15.7.1 to 15.7.2 will download the complete OTA firmware (not an incremental update), at least 4GB, so erase the device after the upgrade, in fact you already get a DFU-like effect.

This is why I emphasize that the jailbroken device needs to be upgraded to 15.6 RC1 first, because after upgrading to this version, the modification of the system files cannot be restored, and the residual files of the jailbreak will always be in the system unless restored with ipsw of 16.2 or 15.6 RC1.

Merry Christmas everyone and thank you @DuckMe for making this how to. I struggled trying to get my iPhone 13 Pro on 15.7.1 in supervision mode on Windows 10.

supervise.me didn't work for me with ibackupbot. I think it's probably good for older phones but it was just not having it and wouldn't restore the configuration file whatever I tried. I eventually restored the file using the drop down menu within ibackupbot but after the phone restarted, it would never be in supervision mode.

I also tried and struggled bigly getting MacOS running under either VMware or VirtualBox on an AMD 5950x box. Eventually got around it with a configuration edit and ended up running MacOS in VMware. Then found out I needed a newer update, then after trying to get into supervision mode, the phone would disconnect and re-connect during wipe and the configurator app would throw an error that the phone was disconnected and would halt the process... Then got a brain spark that I should upgrade to MacOS 13 and after the VM restarted to begin the update, the VM would no longer start ARRRGHH!

Eventually got my iPhone in supervision mode using iMazing. For those on Windows 10 or newer using a recent model iPhone and struggling, here are the steps I would suggest, improving on what @TheNukie already suggested.

1) Make a full backup of your device in iTunes
2) Download an iOS 15 Developer Beta Profile
3) Prepare the delayed update profile in post #8
4) Use iMazing (license needed) to put your iPhone in supervision mode
5) E-mail profiles in step 2 and 3 to yourself and install them
6) Reboot phone & update

Thanks for sharing that experience, using a virtual machine was overkill for me, but glad you got your gift this holiday. I've updated the guide and adopted the template from #8 in the guide, hopefully this will help others more. Merry Christmas.
