Hello,

Could you please let me know how you were able to get native resolution, and the guide to install Lion? Also, can you provide the kext you installed to get the X3100 working?

I have the Toshiba Satellite L305-S5919 with upgraded T7300 and Broadcom WiFi.

Thanks so much in advance!!

Hi there. Yes I was able to achieve native resolution using the method I posted back in post 34. Install Lion as you normally would,(use multibeast to install on hackintosh) then update to 10.7.3 with combo updater and then apply 10.7.3 stand alone installer over the top of the combo update, or the patch won't work. The 64bit kext is contained within the mod.bs file. to install, download the linked mod.bs file in post 34 and follow the terminal instructions exactly as you see them, then reboot the mac or hackintosh.

If you're using a Pc, for a hackintosh setup, I recommend using multibeast, to install lion, and then proceed with the steps mentioned here and in post 34. The 10.7.3 stand alone installer can be found here .Download is called 10.7.3 delta update (Build 11d50)

I'm still working on a patch to get the GMA X3100 GPU to boot ML into 64bit kernel. As yet i've had no success, and i'm currently dissecting the boot.efi file ML uses, to find an exploit. Will report back when I have more progress on this.

Can anyone pass the "Waiting for DSMOS…." message using the kernel 64 bits in the MacBook2,1 (the one with GMA 950)?

The kernel does start in 64 bits mode. It's just the DSMOS is for "Don't Steal MacOS". A stupid check for non Apple HW with a decryption for some applications.

Hi there.
Reading your previous post on page 2, I gather that you wish to install 10.7 on a unsupported macbook 1,1.
If you are looking to install lion on an unsupported mac, then download 10.7 lion

The 64bit patch and kext have only been tested on macs that are running 10.7.3 build 11D50, and have the GMA X3100 GPU. I have not tested this with the GMA 950 GPU.

Only use Multibeast and Xmove, if you wish to install 10.7 on a PC, to create a Hackintosh setup.

Let me make sure I've got this right.

Right now, the X3100 GPU MacBooks can boot using this method but cannot use Quartz Extreme and other graphical services. Right?

Also, once this process is used to install 10.8, will anything special need to be done when updates come out? When DP2 or 10.8.1 or what have you is rolled out, would a user be able to just upgrade without any further work?

Thanks, and I hope this ends up being something doable and worth it. :)

I have tried this before, unless you mean delete it straight from the dmg file. the way I have done it is install on supported mac. delete platformsupport.plist , move hard drive over to unsupported mac. big X when booting. this is the only way I have seen it done. what am I missing?! and thanks

Currently as it stands, the answer to this is yes, for those running snow leopard and lion in 64bit kernel mode. although we do still get full graphics acceleration, using launchpad and mission control.

No, As it stands, no further work is currently required, with regard to future updates.

Hi there. Yes if you are installing 10.7 lion on an unsupported mac, You delete the platform support.plist directly from the system folder contained on the 10.7 lion install DMG before you install on the supported mac. If problems still occur after this, hold down the keys 3 and 2 as you hear the startup chime, until the apple logo appears. This will force lion to boot into 32bit mode.

If you are wanting to install ML 10.8, then the process is slightly different, as deleting the platform support.plist from the 10.8 installer, will almost certainly cause kernel panics at boot. To get around this, you have to edit the platform support.plist file to include both the model id and board id of your mac.

If you get the "big x", after installing ML 10.8 DP1 turn off the mac, and turn it back on while holding down cmd v. Make a note of the code, where it says a reason of why it couldn't boot, Go over to the supported mac, navigate to library/coreservices and track down the platform support.plist file, Then add the code you noted down to the platform support.plist file. (Note everything must stay in alphabetical and numerical order) Transfer back to the unsupported mac and the problem will be resolved.

To avoid permissions issues when editing files in the coreservices folder. open the library folder, navigate to coreservices, cilck on it once, but do not open it yet, press down cmd i, the info box will pop up, scroll down to the bottom of that window, click the padlock at the bottom right of the window, enter your system password, then click on everyone and change the option to read and write. You may also want to do the same process to the platformsupport.plist file.

Thanks for answering!
So, does your answer imply that graphics work swimmingly? What, if anything, is missing or glitchy? If I were to install 10.8 on my X3100 Mac, what graphical issues should I anticipate?

e.g VLC doesnt work with 64 bit x3100 kext because there is no ci/qe. As long we havnt a 64 bit kernel it make no sense for me using ML, cause no shares like smb or afp work with 32 bit kernel.

Groovy. Hopefully they don't drop the 32 bit kernel for the final release. If the requirements include 64 bit bootability, I'd be surprised if the 32 bit kernel survived to the GM.

sorry, I have a few macbooks. a 1,1 and a 2007 which I cant remember. and one that will run it which is an ...09 one? anyway, I see tons of vids of people running 10.7 on their *unsupported* mac but its always the dev version. little help plox :D

There is simply no hope for people who wants to run Lion on thier Core Duo system as the OS itself requires 64bit support. But for us, there is simply no point to not let 64bit capable system to run Mountain Lion just because the EFI/BIOS does not support 64bit. There is also no point for Apple to make 64bit EFI as a requirement other then intentionally drop support for older Macs. If Apple wants, they can anytime make an upgrade for our old Macs to support 64bit EFI. I don't mind paying even if they are charging for that upgrade.

Lets hope for the best, even if the kernel didnt survive, we can anytime patch Lions 32bit kernel. Unlike Core Duo on Lion, our CPU supports 64 bit.

Ok folks, I have finally got around to modding the GMA X3100 64 bit patch to work with 10.8 DP1. This should also work with those already on DP2, but I haven't tested it with DP2 yet, will do this evening when I upgrade from DP1

GMA X3100 mod.bs file is here

GMA X3100 64 bit patch for 10.8 DP1 is here .right click and select download linked file. Open with terminal, type in your system password, reboot and you're good to go.

Well.. It can even run on my mid-2007 MacBook White with 1GB of ram and a 5400RPM Sata HDD.. I don't understand why Apple would wanna discontinue these old but reliable Macs.

So how is the performance on your Macbook compared to Lion? I have a late 2007 MacBook3,1 and when ML is released I would like to upgrade as long as everything works great.

I currently have my mac set up as dual boot, so I can boot into either ML or Lion. I also have a late 2007 Core 2 Duo Macbook 3,1 and ML is certainly more responsive than lion on this mac. it seems faster to boot than lion, and My battery life has slightly increased when using ML. I've not yet encountered any issues with running ML on my macbook, (No beach balls at all), and it seems rather solid.

Nice. Then I'll definitely be using this, or some other, trick when ML is officially released. 2 questions.

How do upgrades work from that point? Is it a hassle like a jb iPhone or is it just business as usual?

will this trick actually allow me to purchase ML or would I need to illegally download? I would prefer to purchase. I don't own a ML compatible Mac although I will probably be purchasing one this year

I have a fully supported Mac Pro (3.1)
What I have is a Tascam FW 1884 sound card / controller that has only 32 bit drivers. Tascam has ceased development for it.
Anyone know if I can force DP 2 to boot the 32 bit sound card driver?
Or am I pooched?

Thanks
B

OK upgrading when ML is officially released will be relatively business as usual, as for being able to purchase the ML installer dmg legit on unsupported hardware, remains to be seen, as it hasn't been released in the mac app store yet, and will require some degree of modification to be able to run on unsupported MacBooks when the final build is eventually released.
