Hello

I am trying to install Lion on my macmini 1,1 upgraded with a core 2 do.

I set the mini to target mode on a supported imac, then installed Lion to the mini's drive.

I deleted the plist file, then booted up the mini. I got the circle with the X in it. I did the cmd-v, saw my mac type of Mac-F4208EC8. I booted it back into target mode, and added Mac-F4208EC8 to the plist.

I then rebooted the mini, and made it through a successful boot. After it fully booted, I got a black screen of death / kernel panic. Now my macmini won't boot at all. I get power but no display.

EDIT: I ended up holding my power button on boot up for about 30 seconds and that brought it back to life. So far so good. Software updated installed successfully.

I have an old MP 1,1 (updated to 2,1) with new CPU´s in it (now 8Cores@2,66).

Will there be a relatively easy way to install ML on this machine? I have also a new MBAir and there i can download ML from AppStore and i don't want two different OS X at home ...

Will an install be possible if i ran my MP in 64bit kernel? There is a guide on netkas. I think, that will be possible to do for me but i dont want to change the system after each SoftwareUpdate (e.g. 10.8.x).

Many thanks folks

Has someone a guide for installing Developer Preview 3 on older Macs?

I've tried hackerwayne's guide, however it didn't work with DP3...

I was talking about running mountain lion on an older mac, and seeing if it could cope with traktor within that.

Bascially I need a new mac.... but they're soooooo very expensive :(

The same reasoning applies though, Mountain Lion (or even Lion and Snow Leopard for that matter) is on x86, so old PowerPC Macs are out of the equation.

Installing DP3 on unsupported Macs

SirVikon, could you please provide a link for that post on netkas? I'm having trouble finding it. madmacfan has provided a guide to installing ML DP2 on unsupported Macs with GMA X3100 GPU, but it doesn't mention anything about DP3. Do you think the method is the same? And if not, how would I go about installing DP3 on my MacBook? Here are my specifications:

Model: White 13MacBook (Early 2008)
Firmware: MacBook4,1
GPU: Intel GMA X3100
Current OS: ML DP1 (installed through hackerwayne's guide)

when i went to go install, it restarted and when it booted back up i got a circle with a line through it, I did everything exactly as it was laid out. I don't know how to make it work.

I have a black macbook 2,1 mid 2007 with Intel GMA 950

So I have a Mac Pro 1,1 with a Core Duo and the x1600. It seems this guide will work for me, but I can't get my hands on an unmodified DP 1. Am I SOL without DP1 from Apple? The IMZDL fixed copy doesn't have any of the folders to modify and wont boot.

Thank you hackerwayne for this post !! ;)
I confirm that it works perfectly with Macbook 2.1 late 2006 (Oh YEAH !! :D)
(only with DeveloperPreview1, I can't install from the DP2 or DP3)

For everyone who wants to try it on an old Macbook, use TimeMachine before! be sure to have the DP1 and follow hackerwayne's procedure step by step, it will work!

Can someone tell me what version of the gma950 kext is compatible with the MountainLion ?
i tried the SnowLeopard & the Lion versions without any result.. if someone has a solution or can upload the good kexts I'll be really grateful

Are you sure to have used the MountainLion DeveloperPreview 1 (12a128p) ?

use TimeMachine before to try this (i had to install ML 3times before it works perfectly, an update conflict made my lose my pointer and I crashed the second install with a wrong kext for the gma950)

i'm sorry but i think that you have to retry the procedure from scratch.. courage my friend i'm sure that it will work on your Macbook too!

Installing directly the DP3 doesn't work, I'll try to install the DP3 over the DP1 (with a few modifications of the *.dmg)
I'll tell you if i suceed and how

Bump. I tried the same thin on my 1.1 and it comes back with the same error. Specifically in console it says:

7/11/12 12:52:24.967 AM Install OS X Mountain Lion: Could not find package ref in any source for: com.apple.pkg.SIUResources

This is write about my experience: https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/15223182/

The link goes to post 249 in another similar thread.

Basically you should take the SIUResources.pkg from your Lion installer and include that together with all the other packages in the folder named Packages. Nothing else was done for me to get to where I describe. Well, it's not the only thing - I did follow the instructions and got what I needed. Now I have a Mountain Lion partition that just needs to boot into the actual installer.
