We'll be testing 10.9 first hand. :) on older Macs

I really hope we have a chance to see this running on our old machines, but it won't be an easy task. This does not mean porting Mountain Lion was simple in any way, but with Mavericks we are confronted with OpenGL 4. Soon we will know, wether this will limit us...

Happy porting.

BTW: Will we see iOS7 on an iPhone3GS similar to whitedoor? The chances should not be to bad, as it basically uses the same CPU as the iPhone 4 and cutting down the the UIElements to 1/4 of their size should be quiet possible, theoretically speaking.

Agreed with everything Rastafabi said here. Hoping that this will be a new breakthrough project here. I'd be super excited plus it would be a super awesome bonus to actually squeeze a couple more years out of our MacBooks and mac minis/pros :)

Finally gave this a go and it worked perfectly on my Mac Pro 1,1 with a GTX570. I haven't played with it much as I was doing a test run on a spare hdd but all went smooth. I installed straight to 10.8.3.

"Whited00r 7" is not possible on 3GS due to newer bootrom. (Maybe the old one will work who knows?)

I'm downloading Mavericks now. Will update you guys here.

Is it possible to enlarge partition with ML on it after installation? Disk Utility says that this partition can't be modified

Happy

I'm very very happy with my MacBook3,1 running ML 10.8.4 supper-smooth! :D I have had no issues yet, no panics etc. I do notice sleep does not always kicks in automatically, it does however works fine choosing it manually. VNC does not work (as expected), but all the other stuff works flawlessly! :D
The biggest plus for running 10.8 on my Mac, is the far better memory usage of ML vs. Lion. I have the Activity Monitor on all the time (in my dock with the symbol set to Memory usage), and whereas Lion just filled up the RAM, and I frequently used the purge command to free RAM for a smoother ride, ML seems to be doing that itself, and keeps the RAM more 'cleaned-up'. So that'll be one of the reasons why ML is so much smoother in experience as to Lion.

I tried installing 10.9 DP1, but off course it stated that it could not be installed on this Mac. So I'll be patiently waiting for MLPF 0.x with hopefully support for Mavericks... But for now, I'm HAPPY!

EDIT: VNC DOES work as normal, my fault. The iBook I was making the VNC connection to, had a fault in the wifi controller... My Bad!

As anyone been using Tuxera NTFS with 10.8.3 or 10.8.4 MLPostfactored?

I'm having some problems when transferring large files to and from external NTFS HDD. I'm getting disk disconnected and some files don't even show up on finder (just see the wheel spinning)...
I have to disconnect and reconnect the external HDD so Finder refresh...

Has anyone experienced this problems?

Two Questions

Hey guys,
I have two questions.
I have ML 10.8.2, and this app store update tells me that i can update. Is it safe to do so?
Question 2: Can you please post a tutorial for mavericks on mac once you guys have it hacked?
Thx,
Spencer993

Still going to see a fix for 5770 on Macpro 1.1's? All this 10.9 talk on core2's is exciting but I'm dying to get this SSD running ML on my 1.1 . System would benefit a ton. Thanks a bunch.

I have successfully installed 10.8.4 to a spare external hard drive, all seems to be well but I have a few questions:

1) What is the purpose the ML partition? I get that the installation works fine from this partition, but then I have most of my free space on a separate partition, which complicates storage within apps. My only guess right now is to make it easier to reinstall should a newer version of Mountain Lion come out (that's related to my next question) but I haven't been able to find this in the thread yet (108 pages is very large).

2) Does the OS have to be reinstalled with each new update (assuming that MLPostFactor continues to be updated)? I see a note on the front page saying it can be done for an update to 10.8.3, but then right below it is a warning to always fresh install. That's confusing. I understand the need to keep it simple for a large user base, but I want to know the practicality of doing this. Also, is this (reinstalling every update) the reason for segregating the OS installation from the majority of the free space?

3) What about this recovery partition I keep hearing about? My Install partition still functions solely as an installer, and I don't see a recovery option at startup. Is this something that people do separately?

4) Depending on the answers above, what would stop me from using my external drive with the installer to my internal hard drive with only one partition? I prefer that setup, a lot cleaner.

I know there are probably answers in this thread, but it's hard to sort through 108 pages and find the relevant parts. I appreciate any insight into these issues.

I think you are doing it backwards. The "Install" partition only needs to be about 8GB and the "ML" partition should be the rest of the drive. You boot initially to the install partition so you can actually install 10.8.x onto the ML partition. Personally I put the install partition on an 8GB flash drive. I can boot from that and install 10.8.3 on any other drive I want.

I was just following all of the pictures/instructions I could find, which showed three partitions: Install (where the Installer is booted from, 10GB), ML (where Mac OS X is installed to, 20 GB), and a third for the rest of the space. I figured the Install partition could be separate, I just couldn't figure out why most of the space was allocated to a separate, unused partition.

No, first part ok (install partition, minimum 8GB), but the ML partition is your OS partition. You can make it as big or small as YOU like, whatever. Remember, this is all experimental, if somebody is not used to this stuff (installing OS, partitioning, etc), please read into that first.

As stated, updates with MLPF is NOT supported. So you'll stick to 10.8.4, or with a next update, do a clean/fresh install. This is not so hard, as long as you have your docs/photo's/other personal files stored elswhere (e.g. Other partition or disk). Or in the cloud, like iCloud or Dropbox.

You guys should probably just stick with the Chameleon method as it's been a piece of cake for me. I used it to install ML a year ago, (Although I do admit I did have trouble doing so at first) and it's been doing me fine ever since. OS updates and all install properly too. Now when OS X Mavericks was available all I had to do was fire up Chameleon wizard and update the boot loader, create a bootable Mavericks Install disc, and install the system. every things working fine out of the box. Took me no more than an hour.

EDIT: forgot to mention this was all done on my Mac Pro 1,1 /w AMD Radeon 6870 (I think it's a 6870 - need to check later)

I agree, but for those of us with original 7300 GT cards - I don't think there is a choice. MLPostFactor is the only way to use Mountain Lion at this time...

(the 6870 would resolve that issue (drop card in, requires no flashing and works with Chameleon), I just don't have money to spend at the time - but those of you that can, it's usually from $75-$125 on eBay)

Installation was a breeze, computer's been running great under ML, including FCP7 and a slew of system add-ons. Thank you so much!

I just hit my first glitch today -- someone else please visit xkcd and tell me if the cartoon turns all black as soon as the page is done loading? In browsing through older comics, it only happens to certain ones, but always the same ones. If I try to drag and drop the cartoon out of place, then the dragged overlay appears correctly, as does the resulting saved file. It's only in the browser, and only in Safari -- appears properly in Chrome.

Any clue?

I got the same behaviour using Safari. It renders good on Chrome though.
