10.8.4 still shows up for me as an available update in the App Store. Is this normal for an MLPostFactor install? Any way to clear it from the list?

Odd, SMBUp should work on ML. Perhaps SMB in Mac OS X has to be turned off first? Maybe try contacting the author of SMBUp and seeing why it's not working for you. Seems the best way to contact him is via twitter (could not find an e-mail address on his website) at https://twitter.com/SMBUp Other than NFS, SMBUp is one of the recommended solutions for Lion and Mountain Lion users to get file servers working again for XBMC.

You can also try MediaMaster Server, though it isn't as "elegant" and doesn't support multiple share points, it still works very nicely and is really easy to use.

Hello, SMBUp author here (email address available on "contact" part of the site and both on my and @smbup twitter accounts).

I don't remember having been asked but will reply here in case the question comes up:

SMBUp indeed disables Apple's SMB implementation (and netbios service) because it's incompatible with Samba and conflicts with it (the program gives this warning upon startup). Sadly it's pretty easy for the user to accidentally re-enable it afterwards. The option to "reset config files" in SMBUp should fix things up but it's not a bad idea to make sure the SMB Windows File Sharing service is off in system preferences before doing this.

SMBUp works the same in all versions of 10.7 and 10.8 so far (I assume it'll keep working as long as Samba itself from Macports does, as that's the basis for SMBUp's Samba installation).

I know maybe some of you are excited with the Mavericks, but it is still in DP, and won't be applied for daily working. So please help with the issues in 0.3.

Thanks in advance.

My laptop is macbookpro 2,2 now with OSX 10.8.4 and MLPostfactor 0.3 (Clean install and restore from time machine)

1. screen sharing through "back to my mac" is not working in 0.3, but it's ok in 0.2.

2. I can see my 2012 iMac through airdrop, but when I drop the files, it never successes with transferring. I didn't test this in 0.2.

3. Even though I don't use blue tooth regularly, I found that if I replace the blued from 0.2 it won't produce crash logs (it will crash with the one from 0.3), but it still doesn't work well, the connection will drop after I input the pairing codes.

Help Please.

Well, I have an Early 2008 Macbook. I had downloaded the 32bit version of v0.3 MLPF. I had created a partition to install the MLPF and another to install ML on. I upgrade my current install of OS X Lion to 10.7.5. I ran MLPF and install on that smaller partition. Installed OS X ML, it completed, but yet it is booting up with the logo as per no Mac OS X is on that partition. I did get the ML from the App Store via Virtual Machine, as well. I have no idea what I'm missing or doing wrong here. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks

My mistake, forgot to run MLPF one last time.. got it to work! ;]

iMessage is not an account issue on the macbook4,1. It's far from that.
"The server encountered an error processing registration. Please try again later." with the terminal thing. Without the terminal thing it says to call to apple. I've tested with another account, reseted pram/nvram/smc and the same thing, always and always.
And sharing is working flawless, just connected to my network and all the computers have appeared on the sidebar and i can perfectly connect to them.
EDIT: There is a crash log of Chrome on my macbook, can you take a look?

I have an iMessage problem :( Sucks because this is the whole reason I upgraded to 10.8.4 in the first place.

Just got this error. "The server encountered an error processing registration." I can't log in at all.

iMac 4,1 (Flashed to 5,1), MLPF 0.3, 10.8.4. Fresh install.

Edit: Tried a million things, automatic time/time zone settings, edit the hosts, change appleid password... nothing works.

Hi Hackerwayne,

Just a quick note to thank you for breathing back new life into my iMac late 2006! It is running 10.8.4 super smoothly.

http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/specs/imac-core-2-duo-2.33-24-inch-specs.html

One question for the hacker in you, this model has two expansion slots for RAM, currently it is populated with 2*1GB. I was thinking of expanding this to 2*2GB for more comfort.

On the everymac page below it is mentioned that the iMac supports up to 3GB of RAM but would not officially recognise the full 4GB even though they are installed.

http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/faq_cd/imac-intel-how-to-upgrade-memory.html

Do you think that this would change under Mountain Lion and that it would be fully recognised or is that a hardware limitation?

Thanks again and looking forward to Mavericks.

Z

What you are describing is a chipset and a BIOS (if we we're using a PC) limitation. I believe the maximum RAM supported by your board and a 64 bit OS is actually 3.04GB or something close to that, but nonetheless it stays at around 3GB regardless of the software you use. One advantage of using the 2x2GB RAM modules would be achieving matched pairs, but the difference in performance is negligible. Save your money.

I would advice to do a clean one I have 2 install now 0.22 and 0.3

I created a diskimage for them with carboncopy cloner so when I want to use any of them I restore it to my usb hdd:)

----------

Well in my case on both 0.22 and 0.3 kextcache is working...

Are u sure you repaired your disk...

You can try this
Step 1 : Clear the dynamic loader shared cache
So First: boot in safe mode by restarting your mac by holding the SHIFT key immediately after hearing the boot chime. When you reach the login window, don’t even log in, just hit restart.

Step 2 : Rebuild Kernel Extension Caches
Open a terminal window and type the following commands:

sudo chown root:admin /
(the system will ask your password to grant access to the sudo chown command as this requires admin privileges)

sudo kextcache -system-prelinked-kernel
sudo kextcache -system-caches

That’s all there is to it! You can now reboot and enjoy a faster booting Mac.

Wow... - it made a huge difference. Thank you very much - it's really appreciated. ;)
Had no problems with long boot time on v0.22, but after updating to v0.3 and 10.8.4, the boot time was extended significantly. So thanks again. :D

Now I'm only missing the SMB feature... or an alternative to it.

I was not expecting VNC to have a black screen. I didn't see it in the list of known issues, nor could I find any work-arounds in the forum.
VNC works just fine to my MacBook 2,1 which also has GMA 950. In post 2622 macsushii is having the the same issue, so it seems to be specific to the GMA 950 on a Mac Mini.
Otherwise, MLPF is working flawlessly. Awesome job Wayne!

My Bad, VNC is working NORMALLY! The iBook a made the VNC connection with had a fault in the Wifi controller. Also no black screen etc, all normal (MacBook3,1 with X3100)

Until SMB becomes usable, Filedrop is a pretty nice alternative. It works across platforms (Mac, Windows and iOS), and soon Windows Phone also.

It is not SMB, but it works flawlessly. So much easier and faster than using USB stick, external HDD, etc.

Go to the website and on the installation page click on the link for v.22 32bit. It will download a MLPostFactor Downloader. Use that and it will give you v.3. It doesn't make any sense but that's how I got it.

Regarding SMB, I have been using DAVE
http://www.thursby.com/products/dave.html

DAVE® delivers commercial grade, two-way Mac file and printer sharing integration and collaboration with Windows Server, NAS, or Samba network storage infrastructure, without the issues of the consumer-oriented, immature and under-tested Apple native implementations.

Has a 30-day trial period - $70 to buy or you can use a different email every 30 days :)

I'm relieved to see that the reports of Xcode not working were unfounded. Thanks hackerwayne & all the guinea pigs for some amazing work.

However, I'm wondering if anyone has tried specifically the Xcode 5 Developer Preview yet, released this week during WWDC and now requiring 10.8. I really need it to continue "working" on my original MacBook Air (quotes to imply how much of a handicap it is to use Xcode on this machine) until I can afford a new Mac.

I'm hoping to see if the DP will work before doing a MLPF install myself. If I end up trying it out before I see confirmation from anyone else, I'll post my own results.

That's already quiet nice, but actually I prefer running (only slightly) modified OS.

That's why I digged into it and finally installed Mavericks with only 2 file modifications on my MacBook Pro 2,2 (miming an MacBook Pro 5,2).

Now I have just installed OS X 10.9 (efi-booted) using it's default v13.0.0 kernel.

Rmember, it's for testing purpose, and it's beta-software. Also there is still no way to enable iMessage/FaceTime/Dictation. for OpenGL/CL I'm waiting for MLforAll, Hackerwayne, as I don't have a clue where to start. Anyway the software rendering is pretty good on 10.9 compared to 10.8 (you should not use Launchpad, Safari Topsites through - eg. chess works! [x1600]).

restore the installer (BaseSystem.dmg + Packages folder) for testing purpose USB.
Swap the IOPCIFamily.kext with the 10.8.4 one (others could work).
boot.efi (hacked 64bit enabled one from original guide) you may request MLforAll/hackerwayne if you don't have it)

install Clover (latest or even bootable iso should work (search for it at source forge) - install/restore it to hfs+/fat32 GUID USB/partition
change the config.plist to mime a macbook pro 3,1 (best compatibility, else you could experience IO issues) - search for SMBIOS settings with champ list.app or similar hackintosh software
_______________

!!unconfirmed:
from the Packages folder extract the BaseSystemBinary.pkg (using the Unarchiver) and doubleclick the "Payload" file anywhere inside - search for the file "mach_kernel" and copy it to the root of your install drive
and you may need an mkext. I build mine on 10.8.4 with PcWiz' mkext tool. Move it to the installers partition /System/Library/
_______________

boot clover (boot+alt) - if you experience a black-screen issue try applying another Clover GUI.
From Clover open it's settings to make your you mime a macbook pro 3,1 and note your own model and board id.
now select your Mavericks installer drive/partition
boot the installer - install Mavericks to any empty USB/partition
after installation finished run in terminal "cp -R /System/Library/Extensions/IOPCIFamily.kext /Volumes/{Destination\ Drive}/System/Library/Extensions/"
now restore permission using Disk Utility
boot Mavericks using Clover (if it won't boot replace the IOPCIFamily.kext (only this!) from a running System and repair permission on Mavericks Extensions folder ("sudo chmod -R u=rwX,go=u-w **drop folder here**" and "chown -R root:wheel **drop folder here**)
on desktop install 10.8.4 (10.7.5) graphics kext (I used Kext Utility), and install 10.8.4 AppleSMC.kext and IO80211Family.kext (in case you don't have WIFI).
Install VoodooHDA-v2.8.4.pkg (and add it's app "/Applications/VoodooHDASettingsLoader" to the automatic startup items)
Edit the PlatformSupport.plist using TextEdit (/System/Library/CoreServices/)
edit your Platform ID and your model (each in first place, of their matching paragraph - you will see).
reboot without clover
should work as described now

If you have the KnowHow read this.

Everything might work without Clover if you edit the PlatformSupport.plist, InstallableMachines.plist and the OSInstall.mpkg

This preconfigured Clover MAY work:

You lucky dog. :(

OK, to expand on what I did:
1. Initially Messages accepted my login and asked me what numbers/emails I wanted to be contactable on.
2. But then when I tried to send an iMessage it wouldn't work (contacts were highlighted in red).
3. Went back to the account settings and then got the error. Tried several times but still got the error.
4. I then quit Messages. I also quit the imagent process (using Activity Monitor).
5. Rebooted.
6. Launched Messages, added my iMessage account and this time it worked without the error. Tested sending iMessages OK.

This is on a MacBookPro2,2, 10.8.4 using MLPostFactor 0.3, clean install.

My addendum/adjustment guide to "Jabbawoks" Mac Pro method for OSX 10.9 Mavericks Dp1

OK here it goes….

Just to summarize, HERE are the new/additional instructions to jabbawok’s guide for creating an installer/installing OS X 10.9 Mavericks (at least for the initial Developer Preview release) on an unsupported Mac Pro 1,1.

What you will need additionally from what is already covered in this guide:

1.) Obviously the OS X 10.9 Mavericks Developer Preview.dmg
2.) Chameleon v2.2 svn r2246
3.) Pacifist 3.0.10

While following this (jabbawok’s) guide, instead of the previously mentioned Chameleon version (21_r1921) you will need to download and install Chameleon v2.2 svn r2246 on your “BOOT” partition as described/explained here as v21_r1921 no longer works for booting OS X 10.9.

Once you get to this step:

“Next job is to copy mach_kernel from MacOSInstallESD to the Installer partition.

In terminal navigate to the Installer ESD with: cd /Volumes/Mac\ OS\ X\ Install\ ESD then copy mach_kernel to the installer partition with cp mach_kernel /Volumes/Installer/mach_kernel have a quick look in terminal to see that it’s there with: cd /Volumes/Installer/ then ls . You should see it there.”

…omit it as in OS X 10.9, the “mach_kernel” (invisible or otherwise) is no longer located within the “root” of the OS X 10.9 installer.

Instead you will need to launch/open the Pacifist .app. Once you have done this, you will need to Locate your 10.9 installer. Right-click and chose ‘show package contents’. Locate InstallESD.DMG in the SharedSupport folder. Double ckick on InstallESD.DMG to mount it. Once mounted, you will see a folder entitled “Packages”. Open that folder and locate the OSinstall.mpkg file. Take that file and “drag and drop” it into your Pacifist .app. Continue clicking through the following content folders: “Contents of EssentialSystemSoftware”, then “Contents of EssentialSystemSoftwareGroup”, then finally “Contents of BaseSystemBinaries.pkg”. About half way down the list you will come across the “mach_kernel”. Before clicking on the “mach_kernel” file, find the “Not Authorized” lock icon located in the top upper right hand corner of your Pacifist .app and click it.
Enter in your admin password when prompted. The click on the “mach_kernel” and select the “Extract To…” icon in the upper left of the Pacifist menu list and extract the “mach_kernel” to the root of the OS X 10.9 “Installer” boot image that you created.

After you have completed this. the last step in “jabbawok’s” guide:

“Pretty close to the start is a section headed var PlatformSupportValues there is a list of board IDs in speech-marks and separated with commas. like “Mac-F42D88C8″,”Mac-F2218EA9″,”Mac-F42D86A9″ you need to add your mac’s board it to it. This is specified in the smbios.plist in the Extra as Mac-F4208DC8 so if you’re using that smbios.plist then add that value. close text edit and go back to flat package editor. delete distribution from the package and then drag the one you edited from desktop into flat package editor, then save the package. this is mine with my board ID Mac-F4208DC8 and Mac-F4208DA9 OSInstall.mpkg”

…you will also need to perform this step (adding your motherboard ID) with Text Edit .app to these specific files in these locations within your created OS X 10.9 “Installer boot image:

System/Installation/Packages/InstallableMachines.plist
System/Library/CoreServices/PlatformSupport.plist
System/Library/CoreServices/com.apple.recovery.boot/PlatformSupport.plist

And that it is it. Boot with your installer as described here and you are good to go

Now the not so good news…

My OS X 10.9 Mavericks install on my Mac Pro possess the following critical flaws.

1.) Sleep issue

Simply put computer will not wake from sleep

2.) No recognition of Blu-ray SATA optical drive connected via the SATA port on my Mac Pro’s motherboard

...and perhaps the most critical

3.) NO AUDIO whatsoever

I have tried both replacing the AppleHDA.kext in OS X 10.9 with the OS X 10.8.4 version as well as installing the widely used “Hack type” solution, the VoodooHDA.kext version 2.8.4 Unfortunately neither of those remedies have resolved the issue.

Given my findings, I can only access that in it’s present state OS X 10.9 Mavericks is not usable for me. Perhaps others will have better results to report after installing or maybe fixes will come along in either future OS X 10.9 releases or newly created “Hack” solutions.
