Make sure you have:
1. at least 2GB of RAM
2. When you copy the "Packages" folder, make sure it copied finish.
3. Make sure you replaced OSInstall.mpkg with the one included.

I see no mention of a modified OSInstall.mpkg included anywhere. What did I miss? I'm also being presented with the incompatible Mac message.

@hackerwayne, you really need to update your guide to reflect the limitations at the moment. I can confirm the following NOT working:

1. Brightness adjusting
2. Facetime (works; just errors out when trying to register with the Apple server)
3. QE/CI (confirmed not working via menu bar & launchpad)

The guide is updated to show QE/CI not working already

Graphics Acceleration APIs employed by Apple in their systems.

Can you also confirm whether X3100 has QE/CI?

That was included by mistake, can you please post the installation log?

You can register else where but cannot register on the incompatible machine.

I dont have a X3100-machine to test with unfortunately, I'm currently following a lead in regards with Facetime, and will get back to you. If it pulls through, it will involve folks installing an EFI boot loader, like Chameleon.

Mountain Lion on GMA 950 Macbook:

  1. Get a ML capable machine, its easier this way and thats how I've done it. Now proceed to patch / replace the files on your ML install USB, as per hackerwayne's guide.

  2. Boot up from the ML USB & install it. In my case, I've installed it on an external 2.5" HD. Took around 15 minutes from start to finish.

  3. Boot into your newly created ML installation, still from the ML-capable machine; download this zip file HERE. This contains the 10.6.2 GMA950 kexts, which are 64-bit capable, as well as AppleHDA.kext from Lion, which enables audio.

  4. Unzip everything, and using kext utility (included in the above zip file), install the kexts by dragging all of them into the main kext utility screen.

  5. Last step, is to copy over the patched PlatformSupport.plist from hackerwayne's guide (his last step) to /System/Library/CoreServices so that ML can boot off your Macbook.
Simple. :D

Just 1 more question. Where did you find the 64 bit version of this kext?

Yes its possible, install the kexts after you installed Mountain Lion OR put the kext in USB/System/Library/Extensions
When i add *950*.kext to my USB installer drive /System/Library/Extensions
Installer doesn't start at all:

Error shows it cant locate the vanilla kernel. Re-create your USB, dont put the 950 kexts and see if it loads. If it isnt, you're not doing it right. The kexts do not interfere with the loading of the system, much less the kernel. They're simply drivers :)

Do i need to replace appleHDA too?
The stock AppleHDA in 10.8 is not interfering here. I had ran my system with it, prior to replacing it with the Lion flavoured kext, in order to get sound working. Please re-read post #22.

It won't let me. Pretty much everything is greyed out but shut down and restart

Following the instructions in post #22, it was my understanding that was supposed to happen after the installation.
Shutdown your MB with the USB stick still connected. Hold the ALT button and switch it on, keep holding ALT. A boot menu will come up, select your USB, and see if it boots this way :)
