the platformsupport.plist is under CoreServices folder of my patch

There are two PlatformSupports in the zip file. One in the root MountainLionHack and one in the CoreSupport folder. Following the instructions, I merged that CoreSupport with the one in the flash drive I created, replacing the files when prompted. Is there something I should be doing with the second PlatformSupport file in order to install successfully?

Shutdown your MB with the USB stick still connected. Hold the ALT button and switch it on, keep holding ALT. A boot menu will come up, select your USB, and see if it boots this way :)

This is how I got to the installation screen pictured.

The same problem.
I re-format my USB and do anything from #22.
I don't replace appleHDA, only add *950*.kext to Sys/Lib/exts...

The same - Error loading mach_kernel. Why? :(

Make sure when you're following hackerwayne's guide, that when you're replacing the files, you're REPLACING the files and not the entire folder itself ;)

You havent replaced every PlatformSupport file then. Its this file that dictates which models that ML can install on. Re-check your work against #22

7. Open up the ZIP file. You should get a folder called MountainLionHack, and it contains 2 folder, which is CoreServices and i386. Open up the 8GB thumb drive, navigate to /System/Library and MERGE the patched CoreServices folder in, when it ask about files replacement, click replace. Next, on the same 8GB drive, navigate to /usr/standalone and MERGE the patched i386 folder in. Replace files when asked.

8. Reboot your Mac and hold down "Option" while booting. Select the thumb drive and hit enter. Once you're at the installation screen, click next till you reach the destination drive, click show all drives and select the 20GB partition you made for Mountain Lion, hit next to install. Once installation is completed system will restart, DO NOT try to boot into Mountain Lion. While restarting, hold down "Option" and boot back into Lion 10.7. Bring up Finder, open Mountain Lion drive and navigate to /System/Library/CoreServices and replace PlatformSupport.plist with the one in MountainLionHack folder.

I have followed up to step 7 precisely. The PlatformSupport and InstallableMachines in CoreSupport were merged onto my flash drive, replacing the 'legit' ones. The PlatformSupport outlined in green hasn't been moved. Looking to step 8, it would indicate this is supposed to happen post-installation.

Btw, just a little note, both PlatformSupport.plist are the same file. The reason why i included twice is to avoid confusion.

3100 now recognized

Ok, X3100 works now
The interesting thing is I did a little experiment: I put only the kext files from 10.6.2 and replaced the 2 plugins and the driver with the corresponding once from Lion 10.7.4
So brightness went at max, still no way to change brightness. It shows progress bar changing, but nothing happens. It was similar for Audio so I hope the fix is simple. For the rest it is working quite well. Launchpad is working, safari too, installed latest Flash and watching videos on the net, it works, everything seems smooth, to me it all looks similar as with the plugins from driver of 10.6.2, but that one I did not test as extensively as the combination of old kext and new driver/plugins
So conclusions:
1. the only requirement for the system to see the drivers is the kext to be 64 bit
2. they must have not changed much from 10.6.2 to 10.7.4 with those drivers given that a simple replace of the driver and the plugins works (i expected a kernel panic )
Also the new screen savers do not work, but the old once work perfect
That brightness issue needs a solution.

Well now I'm really confused lol. I appreciate the help though. Hopefully someone else will have this issue and figure it out.

You have a MacBook 3,1 right? Can anyone confirm a successful installation on a MacBook 4,1 using this method?

The only cause i can think of is the PlatformSupport.plist does not include your Macs board ID. Can you give me the board ID?

Possible or impossible?

please help

hi,
I am on a Macbook Late 2006 with Intel GMA 950 and 2 GB of ram.
I did everything exactly as described in #22. I also added the kexts for graphics support from Trunktz to System/Library/Extensions on the pendrive. When I try to boot from the install-drive by pressing the option-key at boot-time a forbidden-sign appears very shortly and then everything boots up normaly from the internal harddrive with Lion installed. I overchecked all the file replacements 2 times an tried to boot the installer 3 times.
What am I doing wrong?

Don't add the kexts and try again.

Are you sure you have edited the PlatformSupport.plist File and COPIED it to the Recovery folder? And you have added the Board Identifier AND the Model ID ?

X3100 golden minus brightness regulations

As far as I can tell everything works graphics wise. I will check the menu transparency again, although I doubt it, but for the rest we are golden.
I think the change to the newer plugins/driver has not too much of an impact, but it certainly has not worsened anything and launchpad for me opens, I was under the impression that with the old plugs/driver launchpad was a no go, but I might not be right.

Just tried that. No luck, but I did get an installation log by clicking 'Restore from Time Machine backup' and then cancelling it.

http://cl.ly/text/1O0s1v0M0Q0C

"Jul 28 16:30:46 localhost OSInstaller[329]: Installation checks failed.
Jul 28 16:30:46 localhost OSInstaller[329]: Installation check failures: We could not complete your purchase. OS X Mountain Lion is not compatible with this computer."

Confirms something in the installer isn't right. But the installer didn't state it specifically what the problem was. I believe you also replaced boot.efi both in CoreServices and i386 right?

That's correct. Could I use the OSInstall.mpkg from the old guide to bypass the checks?
