[Guide] Success! Install 10.8 on old unsupported Mac

I have a 10.8.0
I want to upgrade it to 10.8.2
Now i need to download ESD from some source and then copy it inside the app?
I cant seem to find the that ESD
Id really appreciate it if you can help me - i want to be prepared when 0.2 gets out

1. OBTAINING A LEGAL COPY OF MOUNTAIN LION. (Skip to 2 if already done)

1.1 Get a copy of Mountain Lion, please purchase the retail version of ML from the Mac App Store (refer Pic 1A).
1.2 ways to obtain it legally.
METHOD ONE
* Download Parallel Desktop 8 Trial, install Lion via Parallel Desktop. Once completed, buy Mountain Lion from the Mac App Store inside Parallel Desktop and copy it to your Applications folder.
METHOD TWO
* Get a supported Mac and buy it directly from the App Store, copy it to a thumb drive (8GB or larger) and transfer it back to the unsupported Mac.

and if i re download from appstore ill get 10.8.3 version..
besides - this is my legit version of the app i saved before!

That's not an option if you don't have the installer. You need to wait for the update and then you'll be able to go to 10.8.3. Or find someone who downloaded the full 10.8.2 installer, saved it, and can get it to you.

and i suppose that its not possible to upgrade with custom update when i install it?
and what kind of an installer do i need?
i dont have anyone with 10.8.2 :/

when I put my MacBook to sleep either by selecting sleep or by closing the lid i can never get the screen to turn back on. I used the easy install method. everything else is working perfectly

All works perfectly, but i have same problem with sleep and KP after wakeup my macbook a1181 4,1.
Another problem is bluetooth pairing with majic mouse. Macbook can find mouse, but cannot pair, some things i can see from /var/log/system.log, but no idea how to fix that

Maybe thats not a patch problem, because bluetooth works at all.

P.S. Im installed ML by clean 10.8.0 with MLPostFactor and apply combo update to 10.8.2 than run ./Hack.command again.

I finally got enough files trashed (60GB) so that I had room to partition and install 10.8.2. I've got everything working (iCloud included) save AirPlay (uses Bonjour), my magic trackpad, and the display not waking from sleep bug. I thought I remembered reading that there were issues with BT. Oh well. Still damned impressed at how well ML works on an old 07 white MB with only 3GB RAM.

Kudos to Wayne and MLforAll. Seriously. Job well done. *golf claps*

Can anyone confirm if external display support (thru mini dvi) works properly on Macbooks with GMA X3100 and version 0.2 or soon-to-be 0.3 of the hack?

Strange that this problem only happens to 4,1 users? Any 3,1 users reporting the same issues? Even beta testers for 0.2 giving mixed result, 3,1 users although has the same X3100 card but doesn't seems to have problems.

It happens on my MacBook 2,1 as well. Have to tell the system never to sleep or the display never turns back on till forced reboot and BT recognizes my Magic Trackpad but fails to connect.

I had the same issue. The next day I tried it and it allowed me to select the "Install" drive. I hadn't rebooted either. *shrugs*

How do I merge the free space into the ML partition? I'm sure its simple, I just can't figure it out. I have a bootable time machine backup too if that is any help.

can't you just drag the borders of the partion you need?

I tried that but I guess cause the ML partition was originally "underneath" the old OS's partition I can't redrag it out. And no, iMessage is not working. I can use Google Chat though through the messaging app.

This happened to me. I had to find an app store version of 10.8.2 (thankfully a friend had it!) and do a fresh install

I had the same problem also, but I erased INSTALL and ML with Disk Utility and they worked fine.

So that would mean Bonjour and those affected by it would would work (ie. AirPlay)?

I have installed and running right now ML on my old Mac mini, but it have a problem with the dock. The dock is dark and something is not correct, as you can see. My Mac mini is 2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo with Intel GMA 950.

My Mac mini 1,1 updated EFI 2,1, with Core 7200 is now running ML full speed

The Magic trackpad is not working still, though recognized. What should I do ?

Also, my HDD is now a SSD, so would appreciate if MLPostfactor 1.0 does not require a fresh full new install... Please consider incremental install ?

Boot caches

After the ML install gets done and I try to reboot, I get the following message from "Choose Startup Disk": "Building boot caches on boot helper partition failed"
How can I fix this? Anyone else see this?
