MLPostfactor not work here.

I tried everything i followed the tutorial but i cant' boot into install partition it doesn't show in the boot. I guess the MLPostfFactor isn't copying the files into the install partition. What can i do?

I have the same problem. I try everything and bootable disk "Install" not appears. I have already installed several times MLPostfactor. And nothing.
After i install the MLPostfactor, appears only this files. Is it correct?

What size is the size of your "Install OS X Mountain Lion.app" in your applications folder?

Well, it needs to be around 4.xx Gig not 20mb. I had to copy the app that I used from my Applications folder from another mac. I am sure that there is instructions on how to download the app earlier in the thread, near the beginning maybe?

Edit: see installation instructions number 1.2 on the first post of this thread.

Below is what I did to install MLPostFactor and ML

•Get the application by downloading it to a compatible computer
•Transfer that installation to from their Applications folder to the same folder on the incompatible computer
•Run MLPostFactor
•Aim it at your install disk
•Once complete, reboot using the 'install' disk (hold option key to chose that disk) - This may appear as 'EFI' or something
•Once the installation program runs, install ML on the disk you wish the ML install to go on
•Once the install has failed go straight to utilities at the top without restarting or exiting
•Run MLPostFactor
•Aim it at the ML disk you just installed ML on.
•Go to the apple top left, go to 'start up disk' and chose the new disk as the one you wish to start up on.
• Sweet, you should be good to go

Please go to post one of this thread to get detailed install instructions.

Some files to support the MLPostFaktor website...

And what about the slogan "Mountain Lion for the rest of us"?

Image

Yep that would be a nice slogan.

----------

Im starting to get a little bit annoyed by those that doesn't bloody read instructions :mad:

----------

Took a couple of attempts to get it right, but very happy to now have MLPostFactor v0.2.2/10.8.3 running on my 5yo MacBook 2.4gHz 4.1.
So big thanks to hackerwayne and MLForAll for putting in your time to make this hack possible!
__________
Like previous post #2022, trying to install official Little Snitch demo caused kernel panic.
Instead of reinstalling MLPostFactor etc., I rebooted back into ML in Safe Boot mode (hold down Shift key when powering up), and had to eject the Little Snitch disk image, and trashed all the Little Snitch and Objective Development files and folders I could find (in Library/User Library LaunchDaemons, LaunchAgents and Application Support, and in System Library/Extensions/LittleSnitch.kext.). Repaired disk permissions, and rebooted with no issues.
__________

wayne - do we have to leave the Install partition in place?
And in the ML partition, do we have to leave all the unhidden folders/files(sbin, mach_kernel etc.) in place also? Or can we rehide some of them?
__________

Thanks again for putting this great project together and maintaining it!

Between MLPostFactor and BitTorrentSync, my MacBook is mirroring my MacMini. Nice.

Its better to leave the "Install" partition there, it acts like Apples "Recovery Drive"

----------

Wow, thanks! Is a radical solution to the kextcache issue included?

Nope! Kextcache won't be solved on 32-bit version.

V0.3 is probably the last version of 32-bit.

VERY EXCITED to hear that wayne!!

Will a 64-bit version for the x3100 laptops be released alongside the 32-bit 0.3 release or will we have to wait a bit longer before its ready?

No pressure just want to know :)

Thanks for all your work!

No. 0.3 comes first

----------

amazing! is that the 64bit? or just the new 0.3?

This is gonna be 0.4 64-bit only. 0.3 will be the final 32-bit version

Against my best judgement, I decide to respond. If for no other reason than to explicate my own reasoning, and hopefully that of others as well.

First off, if you look through the forum, most people have noted that 10.8 appears to run faster and smoother even on unsupported macs. The reason for this perceived speed increase has been discussed elsewhere (notably by ars technica), but is due at least in part to updated drivers and new opengl extensions that work better in ML. These new drivers are not compatible with 10.6. So it is not "slower", as you say, at least according to most people that have actually done it.

Secondly, it's worth noting that many people (including myself) were not very happy with Lion. So even though I could upgrade my mac to lion without hacking it and get some of the benefits of a newer OS, IMO it is an inferior OS to ML in every way.

Thirdly, as to what I'm going to do when a new os comes out: nothing. After mlpostfactor 64 bit, my computer will be native 64-bit programs can properly address my 6gb of RAM, and will be compatible with the one software program I need for it (Battery 4, which is only compatible with 10.7 or 10.8). What else do I need?

Finally, it's fun. Playing with computers and making them do things they're not supposed to is intrinsically appealing, without any further 'justification' required. Who cares, anyway? People have been stretching their computer's lifespans for fun and profit since forever.

Oh yeah - and 2008 should not be considered 'old' when it comes to computers. Perception of a computer as 'old' is entirely based on societal standards, not by functionality. We need to get over this idea that a computer should last four years. There's no reason why it can't last at least 10. Besides, what can the latest model do that mine can't? Play blu-ray discs? I have zero motivation to upgrade other than the ability to use software incompatible with 10.6. And thanks to wayne's efforts, I don't have to worry about that either.

So bugger off lol

We'll be glad we're not stuck with 10.7 Lion for all eternity.

and about speed... my MP1,1 with 8-core upgrade runs it *just* fine. :) Also a lot of people reported their MacBooks are much snappier with ML than with Lion.

You've obviously never done any serious comparison between 10.7 and .8. 10.7 slowed things down a lot but 10.8 runs considerably faster than .7. For me that's reason enough to want to be on the latest version (assuming you're not still on 10.6).

Hi all,

First: THANK YOU to the authors of ML PostFactor. My 2006 Core 2 Duo 2.33GHz 17" MacBook Pro now runs Mountain Lion. YES!

Quick question: I am unable to connect to SMB shares. I am bound to Active Directory here at work, that wasn't a big deal; but I'm unable to mount network-shared drives as before.

I can ping both the IP address of the Windows 2003 server and can ping by name also; I get a response just fine. Every time I try to connect, I get the "Connection Failed; Contact Your Administrator" message.

Unless I'm missing something in this thread, I've tried to skim every page...is there a way around this? Or is there something I can do to make the connection happen? I get the error whether trying to connect using Finder-->Go-->Connect to Server…, or through Command + K, or through the Finder "Shared" section.

Error happens whether on LAN-connected Wi-Fi, or just ethernet cable, or both. Not being able to connect to network shares at all would mean I'd have to reformat and go back to Lion, which I don't want to do.

Any help would be appreciated! Even if it's a "hey, dummy, you missed [this post on this page within this thread]." I did read something about AFP shares and transferring things from Lion (?????), but we don't do any AFP shares here at all. It's all Windows 2003 Server or Windows 2008 server network shared drives. All my other "legit" Mountain Lion Macs connect quickly and easily.

Thanks!

reply to old macs

i understand my point of view may of upset a few,but my question was not really answered, what are you going to do in june ? when apple bring out another os, thats why its best to save up and invest in new hardware.

also making a mac last for ten years would be a great idea, guess if you dont want itunes or a web browser which can be hacked ? ie, if your a power pc user still running 5.8

Guess there is always windows :p if u want a ten year old mac
haha

Flash Drive instead of HD partition for Install

The title says it all. I substituted an 8gb Flash Drive for the HD partition and it worked perfectly. Now I can install on my other Macbook a little quicker or take the installer with me.
