Yes sir that's me! But I'm not making anything up. The issues are there. It's not about Apple products not being for me. I wouldn't accept this from any manufacturer. And as I have stated dozens of times before - I am deeply invested in the Apple ecosystem. Because my new iPhone X has noticeable scratches on the glass then Apple products aren't for me. Got it. I'm asking for a product without faults out of the box, especially a $1,000+ phone. I love Apple products when they aren't faulty - which I can't seem to get, which is not my fault or problem but Apple's.
Nope. Dont believe any of it.

Won’t be popular.. but gotta put screen protectors or acclimate. I used to use screen protectors. I used to care about ‘scratches’ on the coating.. the light ones visible under a light. I don’t anymore. I do care for my screen and carry a microfiber. I do blow off sand or dirt before cleaning. I do occasionally clean with light soapy water.

It only takes some light grime or dust and the wrong cleaning cloth to light up that screen like Edward Scissorhands used it.
Yes, but my thread is about the screen being scratched out of the box from the factory, which is unacceptable.

It just seems strange that every release you come out of the woodworks to claim you had to return your device. Is everyone else blind or are you really that unlucky like a black betty or something.

Want to know why that is? Because I keep having faith that Apple will resolve their issues or that I will get lucky. So I wait for the next version of the device and try my luck. That's probably stupid of me, but as I mentioned, I do have Apple products that I love, I like the software (generally), and I'm heavily invested in their ecosystem.

Also, I have to admit - having an educational background in design, I am heavily driven by aesthetics and cohesion. In other words, I don't think other manufacturers' products are anywhere near as aesthetically pleasing as Apple's - and I want all of my electronics and accesories to go together. It kills me just to have an Acer monitor for my Mac mini, but I can't really justify switching for my uses at the moment. Hell, I won't even buy third party lightning cables even though Apple's aren't the sturdiest, just because I like what they look like more.

Not looking for validation. I am secure in my own observations, thanks very much. I made the thread to alert people, and I will not be bullied into being silent like some have. The fact that this thread is "still going on" is thanks to posters like you who have nothing to say but personal attacks, and those who also have scratches on their devices out of the box, which is more common than you might think. I only respond to those who post as I see fit. Maybe, probably not, but maybe, Apple will see this thread and take it into consideration.

I had scratches on mine too along with some other issues... just took it to apple and they gave me a new one. I could care less about alerting other people. People always have something to say regardless.

I’m going to go out on a limb and guess you laid it on a granite counter while unboxing or at some other point during the day? Either on kitchen counter, or setting it down on bathroom vanity while sitting up from the toilet (haha). Granite is harder than all forms of Corning Glass at the moment so it will put little hairline scratches all over the screen if it slides even a tiny bit.

Truth re: granite. We have granite and I always look for a magazine or even piece of paper to set phone down on there.

I just wanted to start out by saying that this thread is comedy gold. Especially the legend who worked out how many iPads per year were returned based on 24 iPads bought in a 7 year period. Wow, that made me hurt I laughed so hard.

But, to business...

Both my units have hairline scratches which were visible once the film was removed. One also has machining marks on the steel.

They're both going back.

The screen scratches have to be because of the way they're handled during production. I've seen this on all iPhones back to the design of the iPhone 6.

I sympathise.

Well this is a new low for quality control for me - my brand new iPhone X was just delivered and there are fine hairline scratches all over the screen. One is especially noticeable. Total disgrace. I can't capture it on my iPhone 5C camera, but it's there. Please check your X with the screen off under a bright light when you open it to see for yourself. I am hoping my experience is a one off thing. I was very excited for this today, but I should have known better.
[doublepost=1509728854][/doublepost]Also, does anyone know what I should do now with my SIM cards if I have activated the new iPhone X with its new SIM card (Verizon). Should I take it out and put it in my old 5C? Does Apple need the new SIM card with the returned phone?
[doublepost=1510227234][/doublepost]I have been through a few of the iPhone X's and can confirm the scratches under the plastic. Before everyone picks on this person... until you experience it, don't harp on it. It's very frustrating when you spend $1000 plus on a new device with scratches. I have only experienced this with Apple products and never with Samsung.

We even opened a few in the store and under bright light you will see hairline scratches on front or back glass. You will be seeing a lot of threads popping up shortly when people finally notice them and say "OMG, the glass scratches so easy' and those scratches were on the X on day one. They just didn't notice.

[doublepost=1510227404][/doublepost]I agree... it's no laughing matter. People work hard for money and buy products and don't expect products coming in new with hairline scratches. The iPhone X seems to be the worst of them all for hairline scratches. I guess the Chinese are in a rush to roll these out to iLovers who will except scratches like most here would. I wouldn't.

[doublepost=1510227516][/doublepost]If you were so lucky to have money and buy products and see the scratches you would be upset too. Don't think this person is making it up. I had several units with issues of scratches on my X. Returned them. Very bad quality control.
[doublepost=1510227590][/doublepost]
Aren't you the same person that said you've returned dozens of iPads?

Dozens! As in more than 24 returns.

Maybe it's time to consider the possibility that Apple products are not for you.
[doublepost=1510227681][/doublepost]It's people like you who need to buy other products and stop supporting crap quality and protecting Apple while they charge you to make tons of profits. I am all for Apple charging whatever they want, but they need to back it up with quality. No scratches on new devices. Period. Otherwise don't be a premium device robbing me of my hard earned money!

[doublepost=1510227955][/doublepost]Believe it. I have had several units with same issues. We opened a few in store and sure enough both units had scratches. Genius baffled. go to apple.com/feedback and let them know about the poor quality coming off the assembly line in China!

Hi everyone,

I didn't want to start a thread about something similar, but today I purchased my Silver iPhone X from Apple and right out of the box, I noticed small scratches and "dings" around the stainless steel band... in about 4 spots. Do you guys think this is worth returning/exchanging for or should I just accept it and move on? There aren't any scratches anywhere else, the screen is good.

I'm just asking because I don't know if this was a returned phone that I was sold? I'm not familiar with Apple's policies, so I could be ignorant about it, maybe they don't resell their returned products, I don't know.. but everything else looks good, it's just around the silver bands there are Knicks and stuff. I can't take a photo because it's so shiny, LOL.

Only you can make that call. I feel like they charge a premium for the device, shouldn't the quality reflect that? They will change it out, just don't take a white box unit. They won't allow returns then if you have another issue and sometimes can be made from other phones and pieced together. Apple won't call them refurbs, but basically is what they are.

I'm in the same boat, trying to get a new device, but their focus is sell sell sell unfortunately. It'll get sorted though.

I got mine replaced with a new one directly in the Apple Store. But the said it's an exception, they normally don't do it for visual problems like scratches.

I just said I'm not amused about that when I pay 1400$ for a smartphone. Luckily they had 1 left. And the new one is scratch free :)

I don’t get it, they normally don’t....? That is such a boneheaded thing to say. I normally don’t spend 1400 on a new phone but I opted to today. I also don’t normally swap a expensive phone out for another and typically just get my money back.....

Sometimes I think they are told to say these things to put the company up higher in rating as a customer service thing, but it’s really not necessary. Good customer service simply is that.

Glad you got a good one!

I am afraid to say ur behavior is idiotic.

Are the products really new? I just bought the X and the next day I went to apple and they gave me a new one. They told me its not refurbished but the model number starts with an N. Usually that means its a refurbished unit. I'm not sure they would have refurbished devices so early
[doublepost=1510841158][/doublepost]
Same thing happened to me. Ugh. Got my new X last night, unboxed it with my bedroom light on, took off the front plastic wrap and immediately noticed some swirling scratches on the upper right hand corner of the screen. This was really obvious because of the black screen and overhead light. Disappointing quality control. Taking it to Apple today. For a phone that costs $1400 that's pretty cruddy QC.
** UPDATE**
Went to the Apple store today. Explained in detail what happened. The genius at the bar was skeptical. I showed him this thread and told him that it was there from the moment i took off the plastic. After some hesitation he replaced my device while telling me it was against company policy to replace phones for cosmetic blemishes... Sure I'm a little OCD, but I'm not that bad. When a phone has scratches (or a defect in the fingerprint coating, unsure what it was) that's not my fault, and it should be replaced. Had I waited another few weeks and things had been worse they almost certainly would not have replaced it. Anyways, happy ending.

They did the same to me, but I did not get a New box with the "New" iphone. What are the chances of them giving/having refurbished iphones?

N means it is a replacement unit and not a refurbish. Model number F is a refurbish unit. So you had it less than 14 days and used the Genius Bar to replace your scratched up device? Why didn't you return it if it was within your return window?

At this point they are all new, including the replacement units.

Very good point. I bought my phone at a Verizon store. Unfortunately, after calling different locations, they were all sold out within 100 miles. I then call Apple and they told me if I set up an appointment with the Genius bar, they would be able to replace it after running tests

I would return it and try another if the marks bother you. But apple did not sell you a returned phone.

[doublepost=1511580001][/doublepost]I agree this is not acceptable! My X phone less than 1 day old and screen has swirly scratches that won’t come off! Phone went into a protective case immediately and has not even been out of my house yet.

For $1,000.00, Apple should’ve included a glass screen protector rather than me having to buy one.

Also not a fan of this ‘letter box’ screen size. Trying very hard to see any advantage. No additional info is displayed and by comparison to my 7+, my pictures are smaller and I see less of them due to narrower width. Feels like I’ve gone back to my IPhone 5s!

The extra space on the top and bottom of the screen seems wasted. I don’t need a slightly larger Wi-Fi or battery indicator at the top. Nor do I need all that empty white/grey space on the bottom for a smile face and icon??

I don’t like that I Can’t display battery percentage without dragging down a second Control screen.

Feeling disappointed & cheated of the quality And design I’ve come to expect from Apple. Ready to return it and that will be a first for me.

24 ipad returns? can someone post the link to that thread LMFAO

Im sure there is a reason this person doesn't want to step foot in the local Apple store. (photo posted on breakroom wall, very well known)...
[doublepost=1511588099][/doublepost]
Roasting the OP because he has issues?
Wow.

Regarding his 24 other issues, i wonder how many on here are able to afford more than one apple product? Not many i imagine.

You cant poke a man for being tech rich when you have to sacrifice two years worth of your early morning starbucks just to scrape enough money together to afford one apple product.

Sheesh

The OP hasn't boight 24 iPads. the original iPad has been returned 24 times, such that it had become the current new model. :p

"This person" has never returned anything at a physical Apple Store. I order online and return by FedEx. You're beating a dead horse at this point with the lame jokes.

Also, for what it's worth, I never said anything about having the X and the glass scratching easily with use (I didn't have it long enough to even tell if it does). Mine had scratches right out of the box, a whole different issue. People should put their own screen protectors on immediately if they want their screens to stay scratch free, not expect Apple to include one with the phone. That said, it would be nice to see sapphire on iPhone displays but I don't expect that anytime soon, if ever.

People are just poking a little fun at you. I assume you must have expectd that, or even wanted that... given that you are responding to every comment... :D

Edit: Ive returned some stuff over the years. Swapped an iPhone three times once (rough where metal met the glass). They exchanged no problem, but i felt so guilty amd like they thought i was being picky.
