I’m with you on this, I understand how you feel because I too have come across the poor quality on many Apple products OP. Don’t let the trolls get to you, it’s just a reflection of their own issues and true self.

I agree that Apple quality has gone down in the last 5 years or more.
I received an iPad Pro that has a chip out the aluminium that must have been there before the glass went on. I believe the issue is the pressure to deliver higher amounts of product leading to quicker turn around and more defects.
However I would much rather deal with Apple over issues like this than any other company.

I won't be happy at all if mine arrives and it isn't perfect. That's what I expect and that's what I should receive.

But I don't understand the reluctance to go to the Apple Store?

They aren't fun places for many people, over crowded etc etc. But walk in, find the first blue shirted person and explain. You'll have a new iPhone that you can inspect, replace, inspect, replace and then after a few hours with your microscope you can leave with a phone you're happy with.

I found 2 little nicks on the glass of my iPhone X under the notch. I've said for years Apple quality control is pants. Every new iPhone is accompanied by a yellow screen. Last year was dust under the camera glass. I've had iPads with the polished bezels scratched.

Speaking from someone who has returned as many iPads and Macs as this guy I've been trying to not look at Apple products in too much detail. Unbox it give it a quick glance and if you don't notice anything, never look again because you will find an issue with it lol. Its hard not to for an OCD person like myself.

However when the 6S came out I thought the one I had was fine but when I was in the supermarket I looked at the camera and just so happens in that moment, with the store lighting and the angle I looked at it, I noticed a spec of dust under the glsss which I didn't see at all when I inspected it out the box at home. Once I saw that my OCD went off the charts and no way was I keeping it lol.

So as long as you don't see it, it won't bug you. Don't inspect Apple products in too much detail, nothing is perfect as they say.

Same thing happened to me. Ugh. Got my new X last night, unboxed it with my bedroom light on, took off the front plastic wrap and immediately noticed some swirling scratches on the upper right hand corner of the screen. This was really obvious because of the black screen and overhead light. Disappointing quality control. Taking it to Apple today. For a phone that costs $1400 that's pretty cruddy QC.
** UPDATE**
Went to the Apple store today. Explained in detail what happened. The genius at the bar was skeptical. I showed him this thread and told him that it was there from the moment i took off the plastic. After some hesitation he replaced my device while telling me it was against company policy to replace phones for cosmetic blemishes... Sure I'm a little OCD, but I'm not that bad. When a phone has scratches (or a defect in the fingerprint coating, unsure what it was) that's not my fault, and it should be replaced. Had I waited another few weeks and things had been worse they almost certainly would not have replaced it. Anyways, happy ending.

I have actually found the X screen to be MUCH better than my 7 plus in regards to micro scratches and smudges. Not seeing anything so far and fingerprints and smudges have been minimal after regular use.

Good for you. But we're not talking about how it holds up after use. We're talking about the phones being scratched out of the box from the factory.

Okay then. No issues for me out of the box. I suggest returning yours, but they may deem it a user issue.
Great- as expected. I know you go to every thread whenever anyone mentions an issue and just say how perfect your Apple product is. Also, return complete and issue already resolved (user issue... scratched product from the box, right) - read the thread.

Okay, glad to hear it. I would hope it would be no issue, but you never know. I was only mentioning the scratches on a scratches thread as I had problems with my 7 Plus with tiny scratches and I noticed improvement on the X. Not sure why people need to get so angry about everything on here. Anyway, glad you got it resolved. Enjoy your X.

I hope its a scam. Otherwise someone like that would just be.. Sad....

Wow, seems like you have a ton of issues / didn't want the X to begin with. I would maybe look towards a different platform. You seem to have some really bad luck with Apple products.

These scratches were all over the screen as soon as you peeled back the plastic? That's insane if true. I can't see how this would happen.

Yes, there were about 5 on different parts of the screen. The others were much smaller than the one I posted a pic of.

Not a scammer. Been here since 2011, have bought and sold, and loved Apple products for many years. Here on the marketplace and elsewhere. Not looking for attention, looking to ALERT others to check their devices. I don't like the notch. Hated it in landscapes when I had the X. Bought it only because I wanted to see if quality control issues were fixed with this new type of screen (OLED), and besides the scratches it seemed so. Also, you have quite a lot of time on your hands.

I hope its a scam. Otherwise someone like that would just be.. Sad....

Nothing sad about it. I check my Apple products over before accepting and they always seem
to have issues. Don't blame me, blame Apple.

I already explained in this thread why I don't. Try reading.

I got mine last Friday and noticed a very thin 5mm long scratch while placing a protection foil on it. First I thought it's dust, but unfortunately not. So I have an appointment in the Apple Store tomorrow. And just right now I noticed a lot of other scratches. What a bummer :(

Might not want to post anything here. People will bite your head off. That said, I'm sure Apple will take care of you. I would recommend to return it and rebuy a new one if that's possible so you don't have to go through getting a white box replacement. I've heard after they give you a replacement you cannot return after that (according to users here). Good luck - hope your next one is a good one.

Googled this to see if it was just me. Mine is a silver 64gb and has a long hairline scratch coming down from the top left corner of the screen. I’m sure I’ll get used to it, but it’s really annoying for something so expensive.

Are you kidding me?

This happens quite a few. I've had this happen to my 8 Plus and 7 Plus. Moment I peeled back there was already a scratch. This is definitely manufacturer defect

Mine has a hairline scratch about an inch long just a bit below the notch. Can hardly notice it but at the right angle when the screen is black it’s there; can also feel it. Going to the Apple store tomorrow; now sure how replacements will work given the stores around me have no stock.

Not looking for validation. I am secure in my own observations, thanks very much. I made the thread to alert people, and I will not be bullied into being silent like some have. The fact that this thread is "still going on" is thanks to posters like you who have nothing to say but personal attacks, and those who also have scratches on their devices out of the box, which is more common than you might think. I only respond to those who post as I see fit. Maybe, probably not, but maybe, Apple will see this thread and take it into consideration.

Won’t be popular.. but gotta put screen protectors or acclimate. I used to use screen protectors. I used to care about ‘scratches’ on the coating.. the light ones visible under a light. I don’t anymore. I do care for my screen and carry a microfiber. I do blow off sand or dirt before cleaning. I do occasionally clean with light soapy water.

It only takes some light grime or dust and the wrong cleaning cloth to light up that screen like Edward Scissorhands used it.

I agree with this. Peel back plastic & see light scratches and I’m handing it back to them.
