you need to right click that kext show package contents-macos then open that file with 0xed

I opened up the KEXT contents and went to the airportBCRM file and right mouse clicked on the actual package to open with 0xed....

UncleSchnitty, thank you so much

Saludos y muchas gracias a todos..

jesus, all that is necessary to get this stupid crap to work? kudos to all who got it done but i'm not sure if my mid 2009 MBP can get this to work. i'm not going through all of that to get it done. I don't get why apple would push this out and it require us to go through all of that.

Thank you so much to all involved. You saved me a ton not having to upgrade my 2011 MacBook Air. Everything works perfect and Airdrop will finally be utilized on my Mac

Only newer macs can support handoff due to the use of BTLE4.0. Apple does not support handoff on older machines nor did they claim it would work for them. If you want handoff on older machines this is the way, if you want handoff but don't want to worry about it upgrade, if it's not important to you then you don't have to do anything.

I understand why apple did what they did, I don't like it and that's why I came up with this thread but that doesn't mean I don't get it

RetinaMacBook Pros: Works OTB.

cMacPros:Early2008-2013 requires new bluetooth/Wifi only

Some more additional thoughts.

I can confirm that the 2007-7 cMPs are also 100% up to speed once they get the same update a 3,1 takes. Obviously they also need Yosemite but the hack to put Yosemite on a 2006/7 is much easier than this one.

As far as rMBP, they expose the duplicity of Apple's "whitelist". The 2012 ones used BT 4.0 but the WiFi was "N so they were basically equal to the 2011 MBA. But they get a nifty black boot screen and working everything, while the WiFi/BT hardware identical MBA 2011 gets a lifetime of hacks to make this stuff work.

Step 27:
$ nvram -p" by "nvram -p | grep "kext-dev-mode" | awk -F'=' '{print $2}'

I get this in response:
nvram: (usage: no such option as - )

Any suggestions?

Theres no number under that?

Nope, here's the exact output when tried twice in a row (both unsuccessful):
Code:
MBPWORK:~ v$ nvram -p" by "nvram -p | grep "kext-dev-mode" | awk -F'=' '{print $2}'
nvram: (usage: no such option as - )
MBPWORK:~ v$ nvram -p" by "nvram -p | grep "kext-dev-mode" | awk -F'=' '{print $2}'
nvram: (usage: no such option as - )
MBPWORK:~ v$

I tried proceeding with the rest of the instructions anyway, and I do not see "Handoff" setting under System Prefs > General. :( I'm doing this on a Macbook Pro 15" Early 2011. This is supported with IOGEAR GBU521, correct?

No, thats why I highlighted in the first section that it needs to be built in.

Sorry, was so eager to jump on this that my reading comprehension skills took a dive. ;)

Just for reference, though, is my incompatible hardware the reason why the nvram command didn't work (see above about 4 posts)?

He improved on the tip I sent him but added a typo

nvram -p | grep "kext-dev-mode" | awk -F'=' '{print $2}'

is what you want

Ah, so this will not work with an external USB dongle?

Actually it can, but the USB dongle needs to contain Apple parts. We sell some of these. There is even a way to make a Non-Apple one work but that adds a whole additional layer of complexity (read - places to mess it up)

The typo wasn't from my tutorial, I think he actually copied that when he posted it.

I have not personally seen any usb dongles that have worked so I don't feel comfortable telling people that it is an option. I understand that you yourself have made them I myself have just not seen one that actually worked.

mmmm... jessica.'s beer...
I seem to be getting no help, I've asked a few different times in a few different threads... I have a 17" 2011 MBP that does not have BT4.0, do I need a new module for this to work? If so, does anyone know if they make a module that will work in the 17"? Or do I just need to edit code somewhere?

TIA :apple:

Looking at post 1 of this thread here:

In Step 27, I see this (freshly copy/pasted but you can check for yourself to verify):

nvram -p" by "nvram -p | grep "kext-dev-mode" | awk -F'=' '{print $2}'

Just thought you might want to edit for other users.

Code editing will not work and unfortunately it appears your mac pro uses a BCM93046MD MINI bluetooth card. Personally I have not seen a 4.0LE card that Apple mad that uses that size. I imagine thats why you're having a hard time getting an answer.

This card is the issue

Yes thats the correct command, the issue what with the "$" before it. That wasn't in my post it seems like it was when you copied it from terminal. Its cool not really a big deal

Oh, the "$" was just my terminal prompt. Any idea why this command didn't work for me?

It means that the first command
Code:
nvram -p" by "nvram -p | grep "kext-dev-mode" | awk -F'=' '{print $2}'
didn't take for whatever reason, unfortunately even if you did get this tutorial working handoff would not because you don't have the built in 4.0le card. You can probably hunt one down for your computer on eBay or somewhere though.

BCM94331PCIEBT4CAX is the card you should look for. Hope that helps you a little.

You aren't understanding what you are being told.

You have the wrong command in your tutorial.

Code:
nvram -p | grep "kext-dev-mode" | awk -F'=' '{print $2}'

Is the right one.

Try it yourself and see.

I think someone sent you a better one than the one I did and you just added it to mine instead of overtyping it.

Ok, I doubled up the nvram -p by accident however it does not change the outcome. You still get a print out showing "1" meaning that it is in dev-mode. Regardless of it being doubled the results are the same meaning you get a 1 or you don't. He is saying he is not getting a "1" so he has an issue. The command is not "wrong" it just had your command in the beginning that caused the "no such option" doesn't change the outcome.

so what should I do? I thought I was doing everything right. I changed the first and last lines I've added a picture. Where do you see the problem? If you want to look more closely imageshack addresshttps://imageshack.com/user/heoneulasbarmanbek

Exactly the same problem here on my MBA2011... Followed the steps one by one, but when it comes to
PHP:
sudo kextcache -system-prelinked-kernel
it does not find the IO80211Family.kext while the IOBluetoothFamily.kext works.

There are a ton of threads about this and I just wanted to put all the findings in one place with the updated procedures since there have been a lot of modifications recently.
...

UncleSchnitty, thanks a lot for your manual! After some struggling it worked!

Can anyone confirm SMS Continuity works on MBA mid 2011 after these manipulations? Cause, unfortunately, it doesn't work in my case however. :(

I also experience some troubles with Phone Calls sharing - the call notification appears on my Mac with about 5-seconds delay (making a call from mac takes even longer time - it's about 15 seconds until FaceTime will launch). But maybe it's natural with such technology, or something's wrong with FaceTime on my Mac.

So, can anyone on MBA mid 2011 confirm or disprove such troubles?
