iMac late 2009 27" (wire extension)

My plan is to extend the antenna wire from the built in bluetooth module with two of these antenna wires.

On the other side (if i got every right, what i read up to now in this thread) i have to get a USB signal to the new card including the adapter.

Is it possible to extend the data and power wire (picture below) from the original bluetooth card to the new card and adapter, and if so, does anyone know, wich one of the wires connected to the old bluetooth module is used for USB-Data+ and USB-Data- ?

And is it right, to solder the extended USB Cable onto the adapter board, like shown in this picture

Awesome tool, I thank everyone involved in its creation.

I stumbled into a problem: AirDrop Mac -> iOS works well but iOS -> Mac doesn't, as the Mac (Macbook Air Mid-2011) isn't detected by my iPhone 5S. I've set Airdrop to been seen by everyone, on both operating systems. What else could I try to do?

I have the same problem. The solution in my case is to open bluetooth preferences from my MBA when I try to send something via airdrop from my iPhone. When you do this the MBA starts looking for devices. After that iPhone sees the MBA. I have to do this every time after a sleep or reset of the MBA.

I just tried to do this but it still doesn't seem to work. Thanks anyway.

for those who have problems with AirDrop between Mac and iOS-devices:
try to setup the same DNS-addresses on each device and router. after I did this - airdrop started working immediately in both ways.. report if it helps you

Thanks for the heads up, but unfortunately it didn't solve my problem as my iPhone 5S already had the same DNS address as my Macbook.

I'm going to buy my adapter and card and maybe some accessories from here:
http://www.osxwifi.com/pre-order-ap...ac-bluetooth-4-0-with-adapter-for-macpro-2008

They were very responsive to my email questions about getting this right.

My plan is to extend the antenna wire from the built in bluetooth module with two of these antenna wires.
Those wires are listed as 20 cm or about 7.8 in. Have you measured how much you need to get from Bluetooth card to the new card in the WiFi slot? The OSXWiFi people linked me to this one:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/300942436639

It's 12 in long. Maybe that's enough?

Or they said you could use this for your Bluetooth antenna:

http://www.osxwifi.com/wireless-internal-antenna-for-bluetooth-macpro

On the other side (if i got every right, what i read up to now in this thread) i have to get a USB signal to the new card including the adapter.
I don't think anyone knows for sure that either way whether the USB signal is present there. The OSXWiFi board I linked has leads for USB that you can attach with a cable with no soldering required. But, no one knows yet if that's necessary.

Is it possible to extend the data and power wire (picture below) from the original bluetooth card to the new card and adapter, and if so, does anyone know, wich one of the wires connected to the old bluetooth module is used for USB-Data+ and USB-Data- ?

Assuming the USB signals need to be re-routed, from what I've read you don't need to extend power, just USB + and USB -. Seems like you could get or make a cable that matched to connector on the existing Bluetooth board and send the signals off of that. Also, have you or has anyone followed that existing cable back to it's source? Maybe it would be easier to connect at the source?

I think extending the antenna wire is going to be more trouble then it's worth. I would order the antenna wires from OSxwifi and just place them in the case. It's the most nondestructive way to do it.

As for tracing the wires from the Bluetooth, on the 08 I belive I traced them to the other side of the board so idk how easy that would be.

Best case is that the mpcie runs the usb and you can just place the antennas where they will fit and be done with it. No need to over engineer this. If not you can always fashion a plug to go into the current usb plug to transfer the usb. Just don't fry your board by accidentally tapping the power instead of data

Try removing all bluetooth devices from the bluetooth preferences then delete com.Apple.Bluetooth.plist from /Library/Preferences, reboot and pair devices.

Thanks for helping, but when I tried to pair the Mac with my iPhone, the iPhone gave an error saying that my Mac wasn't compatible and disconnected the pairing.

EDITED: If I have "Show Bluetooth in menu bar" enabled, I have to do this every time I want to send from iPad to my Mid 2011 MBA , regardless of anything. It's an issue I'm sure will be resolved in a yet to be released "magic" update or maybe it won't since I'm using an officially unsupported MBA. Just as easy to share via cloud, but AirDrop is nice to have. I'm glad it's there and it does currently work both ways every time as long as I do this one extra step or disable "Show Bluetooth in menu bar" from the Yosemite System Preferences.

Maybe this is why the Mid 2011 MBA was not supported in the Yosemite GM. In any case, it's no big deal to me for the small number of times I expect to use this feature. Just as easy to share via cloud, but AirDrop is nice to have. I'm glad it's there and it does currently work both ways everytime as long as I do this one extra step.
My 2011 works fine with it, Have you gone to airdrop on the sidebar of finder then changed "allow me to be discovered by" to everyone? If not try that, send yourself a file then change back to contacts only, just make sure you have yourself under contacts

Problem turned out to be related to "Show Bluetooth in menu bar". Turned this off and the issue goes away. Sleep does not effect it. I edited my previous post. Was set to "Everyone" before.

Edit 2: Spoke too soon. Still an issue, but opening Bluetooth preferences always wakes up the Mac bluetooth and it then it shows up in iOS 8.1

Edit 3: Very inconsistent results. Works continuously now. It seems to be related to Bluetooth not waking when it should. I restarted the MBA and Reset the iPad - This caused the issue to occur. Then I attached the power adapter to the MBA and it instantly appeared in on the iPad. I removed the power adapter, restarted the MBA again and reset the iPad, but now it shows up every time, no matter what. I suppose it might not work again tomorrow.

Oh well, at least I know an easy workaround to the issue.

I can try if you want. I know well what needs to be done, maybe i can see something messed up in your system.

Hey Lem3ssie, thanks for offering help, can you guide me through the process of fixing this? I tried to message you but for some reason the messaging system in this forum is sorta restricted/limited? ...

Continuity Activation Tool v.1.0.2

I've just released version 1.0.2 of the Continuity Activation Tool. You can get it from here.

Changes
  • Fixed a bug that prevented Handoff to be enabled in the System Preferences, even after a successful patch (#21,#22, #31)
  • Added a backup step for freshly patched drivers, potentially useful if a future OS X update disables the patching methods ( #16)
  • Added a prompt in case existing backups are found, asking whether to overwrite the files or skip. Previous behaviour was to silently overwrite.
  • Removed the 13" MacBook Pro 2010 from the compatibility list (#28, pull #29)
  • Minor optimisations

Feedback welcome!

old-fashioned. I don't have skype. give your icloud id, make sure you have the same icloud id in iCloud, Messages, iMessage and Facetime on both ios and Yosemite.
Terminal this command and reboot :
Code:
sudo nvram boot-args="kext-dev-mode=1"
Also install free Path Finder trial. Once its done tell me, l'll join you with Messages screen share fonction and see what i can do.

This is getting a bit ridiculous. I can't find Lem3ssie on twitter. I just registered. Nick is r2fi1... hope this works and we stop spamming this topic :). I also tried that command above and it give out an error. Since i'm not at home right now i will write back in 2 hours.

I do like that this thread has stayed a place for people to get help (because most problems can be fixed) and hasn't become the off topic uniformed junk that some of the others have become.(i.e. Apple hates the 2011s and this will never work with it because...)
I know Lem3ssie, doktordok and myself have been trying our hardest to help people out here and will continue to do so. So no getting help isn't spamming its the whole point of this thread from day 1.
