Hi all,

Using an early 2011 MBP here, bought the CAX card and installed.

WIFI works on boot but no recognition of any bluetooth hardware. Has anyone encountered anything like this? Did I just get a faulty card? Can't run the Continuity tool due to hardware mismatches.

TIA

Does anyone have anymore insight on this? I've checked and re-checked the wiring.... Must be a faulty card? Appears it has happened to another individual on this forum as well.

I read and re-read the thread you linked. Didn't see any reference to the Late 2009 iMac. Someone mentioned a 24" iMac from 2009 but not a Late 2009 27". Maybe I missed it. Also, to be clear to the best of my understanding you're not looking to bring power from USB, you're looking to bring the data D+ and D-.

I meant the D+ and D-, and not the power. I just have to figure out how to do that with that adapter I have.

I had the same adapter like you, just because it was a cheaper alternative to the adapter from osxwifi. With the help of a multimeter i figured out, that this required setup is impossible with your shown adapter.
Long story short... I ordered the adapter from osxwifi and now I'm waiting.

CAT 1.1.0 beta 1 has been published, which includes an uninstaller, speed and reliability improvements. For those who want to give it a shot - I'm looking forward for your feedback!

That sucks, but thanks for the heads up. That will save me a lot of aggravation and time. I'll place my order now.

So does that mean that the USB data lines will be present or will we have to connect them via a jumper cable? (By we I mean OSXWifi adapter owners)

It depends on the production year of the iMac, but in most cases, we have to manually wire the Data cable. You can do this with jumper cable or directly solder it on the board.

btw... do you know this very very helpful thread?

OK, I think I'll be hanging out over there now for a while :D I've read and reviewed that thread twice today. One poster is reporting that you do have to bring the USB signals to the new board :(

He cut the wires and soldered them to the new board. I'm not willing to do that. I'm going to try to fashion an adapter cable to go from the Bluetooth connector to the OSXWiFi board.

In fact, I just went and bought two Bluetooth adapters that maybe I can sacrifice and use the on board connector to make my adapter.

I think you're over engineering this a little. Your 2 best options are take one of the usb cables that osxwifi offer and

1. plug it into there card (it has the usb data prongs on the side) and splice it to the data lines that go to the bluetooth chip thats in the imac, or
2. run the full usb wire thru the ram bay at the bottom and plug it into a usb slot.

option 2 is by far the easiest and least intrusive but option 1 looks the best.

Card finally arrived

Hey Guys and Girls,

I'm back. Finally received the BCM94331PCIEBT4CAX card, ordered it from aliexpress (Link). Took about 2 weeks to arrive.

Prerequisites: I've got a Late MBP 15inch exact model is A1286. The card i got looked exactly like the one that was already in my Macbook so i figured the cables would go on the same spots (correct me if i'm wrong here).

Basically after installing the new card (which took me about 15 minutes tops) i booted up my MBP, wifi connected immediately to my router and the bluetooth icon was active. I quickly took my Apple bluetooth mouse and tried to connect pair it - worked flawlessly. So far so good, i was excited and getting ready to start Continuity Activation Tool.

Downloaded the latest release, started it up, gave it admin permissions pressed 1 > 1 and baam ! Nothing !

Decided to run the diagnostics:
Screen%20Shot%202014-11-11%20at%206.20.45%20AM.png

After that i decided to download the latest beta and run the diagnostics there as well:

I can't figure out whether there is a problem with my Yosamity or whether the problem is with my hardware. Everything seems to work fine though, mouse connected fine and wifi works flawlessly... really not sure where to look right now. Any suggestions... ?

Oh... some more details ;)

That's what I'm trying to accomplish. I've got the internal cable that came with my OSXWiFi kit. My plan is to connect the two prong end onto the board they supplied. Then replace the USB-motherboard-header-plug-end of that cable with a connector that matches the connector of the existing Bluetooth module.

Hi Rafaelo, you've put your finger on a rare issue, where your system can't find the tools needed to get the job done. I've uploaded a fix at the moment, right here. Could you please check it out and report back? Thanks

handoff works only when the bluetooth preference panel opened

hi guys, i have a 2011 mid Mac mini. I used the latest activation tool and found continuity works, but only when the bluetooth preference is opened.

I figured by opening the preference, it only makes the mac discoverable. So i changed the bluetooth plist, and restarted. Nothing changed, still only works with the condition.

Does anyone else find the same or just me?

Thanks a lot for your efforts to help me. Really appreciate it.

Could you please try the following steps:
  1. Download CAT v1.1.1 (updated 1 hour ago)
  2. Rename any KextsBackup and KextsBackupBeforePatch folders in /Users/yourusername/ (e.g. KextsBackupBeforePatch_old)
  3. Run CAT and uninstall. Fresh kexts from the OS X recovery image will be installed.
  4. Reboot
  5. Run CAT and Activate
  6. Provide feedback

Thanks

not working

Hi, I have installed the BCM94331PCIEBT4CAX (bought from http://www.aliexpress.com/item/NEW-...d-2011-2012-Verified-Supplier/2039938920.html) into my mid 2010 macbook pro 15" and it does not seem to work! I followed bspachman's guide properly and yet this is what I get:

https://www.dropbox.com/sc/g45m7aeoqc72s99/AAAaWsIaT2ePh43DVNn48r4Ca

As you can see, I have already modded my card holder to hold the new bluetooth/airport card. However, my bluetooth still states "no information found" and my wireless does not seem to be able to connect to my 5ghz router. When I replace back my old card, every works well. Is there a possibility that the card that I just bought is not working?

It is very possible your card is defective. If when you connect it system profiler does not pick up a part of the card (either under wifi or Bluetooth) chances are you got a bad card.

Hi, well i did as you said and followed the steps exactly as you wrote them. Everything went fine but after the restart i have no more Wifi. When it tries to search for networks it ends up with nothing. When i tried to activate with the tool, i get the exact same error like before. Diagnostics give a different result. I'm currently using my iphone as a hotstop so... helping me fix wifi would be appreciated lol

Update: I got wifi working again. I renamed the kext folders back to what they were (without the _old part) and started the Uninstall process again from the Activation Tool. Wifi is back to normal phew :)

Update 2:
I actually got it to work!!! Summary of everything i did since the beginning:

I have a Late 2011 15inch Macbook Pro

1. Bough CAX card from Aliexpress for 30 bucks link is a few posts back.
2. Exchanged the card without any problems (really quick 15 mins tops)
3. Wifi and Bluetooth were working fine but the tool was giving me an error with the whitelist
4. Downloaded CAT v1.1.1
5. Renamed the KextsBackup and KextsBackupBeforePatch folders in /Users/yourusername/ to e.g. KextsBackupBeforePatch_old
6. Ran CAT and uninstalled. Fresh kexts from the OS X recovery image were installed.
7. Rebooted
8. After reboot i had no more WIFI and Bluetooth. Diagnostics gave a new error.
9. Restored the Kext folders that i previously renamed back to what they were.
10. Ran CAT again and selected Uninstall
11. After reboot i had WIFI working like normal again.
12. Ran CAT and ran diagnostics. Everything turned OK
13. Ran Activate, and the process completed Successfully!
14. Donated to the project <- Recommended step!

Thank you guys for all your efforts. Everything runs smoothly now. Amazing work, and congrats on your success and for the amazing tool making our lives a lot easier. Keep up the great work!

Hi together,

tried Version 1.1.1 of dokterdok's continuity-activation-tool, after restart have no chance to enter iCloud to deactivate/reactivate, always got the Apple beachball. Did uninstall and reinstall of tool but no chance. Any idea?

Thanks

By the way: MacBook Air Mid 2011, former version of tool worked but without instant hotspot (which was the main reason to install)

So obviously 10.10.1 broke handoff/continuity for those of using the tool, should we just go through the process again or does the tool need to be updated?

Updating to OS X 10.10.1 disabled the Bluetooth 4.0 Continuity features for me (as might be expected).
Should I simply run the tool again? When I ran it last, it was at version 1.0.2, which was the one I used. Should I run 1.0.2 again, or should I download the latest version and run that?

Thanks!

I just updated to 10.10.1 and the update disabled Handoff on my 2011 MBA. Running the Continuity tool reenabled it perfectly. It was not necessary to log out of icloud - it just worked after a reboot.

So if you don't mind being an early adopter and waiting for dokterdok to test, I'd go ahead and run Continuity tool again to get your handoff back!

My happy days were short. All of a sudden my iPhone stopped seeing my Mac. Everything used to work so well and today, even before i updated to 10.10.1 it doesn't work. I tried re-applying the activation tool but without any success. It's really weird my mac can see and send stuff to my iphone but the iphone cannot see my mac. Any ideas ?

Just to confirm on a 2011 MBP, 10.10.1 breaks handoff but reinstalling sorts it out. In my case, I seemed to have to sign out and in to icloud on my MBP. The iOS devices were ok just updating to 8.1.1 - No sign out required.
