Why would you leave your office desktop on when you leave work? Sleep mode is for laptops.
I’ve never been in an office that turns off machines overnight. There always on.

I think that’s more likely to lessen the life of the machibe right? I was told that the power surges that happen when switching off and on ends up breaking devices. A low current (sleep mode) is best for longevity.

Maybe that’s old advice??

My gosh I love the new Mini, but there's no reason to upgrade the Minis I've already got deployed.

I sorta wish they had kept at least one version of the M2 Mini around at a lower price. They're so useful.

I do like that the Mac mini is smaller, but it's taller/thicker. I like to hide it under my desk, connected to my 27" Apple Studio Display. It's the closest look to the 5K iMac.

@Apple please bring back the 27" iMac!
you really still want a 27" iMac after buying a studio display? What sucks is they're gonna make the studio display we wanted to begin with starting this year and its gonna get replaced anyways lol

The M4 Pro MacMini is only a ridiculous 0.73kg compared to my lead paperweight M1 MB Air at 1.29kg.

I want the MB Air to be 0.73kg!!!!
Apple seriously need to find a way to shed more weight off it to justify its naming.

LETS BE HONEST, Intel NUCs have been this size for over a decade now. Nice to see the mini finally adopt this form factor. It's got me interested in purchasing one. Stupid placement of the power button though.

Looks cool, carbon neutral is cool, but frankly the old design was pretty awesome too and had some advantages. Like it fit nicely underneath my monitor stand, where the new one is too tall! ;)

I had the same concerns when I ordered the entry model.
However, because I have serious doubts about the cooling, I decided to place it elsewhere and leaning on one of the sides with the logo in front and the fans in the back.

Not convinced about exhaust near the intake, will not recirculate air plus having the same shared surface will make the intake cold air much warmer.

After announcing new iMac, Mac mini, and MacBook Pro models this week, Apple invited selected journalists and content creators to check out the products in person.

The Verge attended the gathering, and it has now shared hands-on photos of the dramatically smaller Mac mini, the refreshed color options for the iMac, the updated Magic accessories with USB-C ports, and more. We have highlighted a few of these photos below, and we encourage you to check out their article for a complete gallery.

All of the products are available to order now. The new Magic accessories have already started arriving to customers, and the new Macs launch Friday, November 8.

At that size, they should just make the top a trackpad and you can skip the mouse...

Only me then who prefers the previous mini shape?
As far as size, if it was designed for the thermal envelope of an Intel chip, it was probably bigger than it needed to be. As far as shape, I like both the old and new shape. I think the old had an advantage with that lower profile--it could take up less room in a vertical dock and it could fit better in an under desk attachment or stacked. But most people probably just sit it flat on a desk, so for that it makes sense to give it a smaller footprint and make it taller. Also maybe Apple wanted it to literally look like a "mini" Studio.

I guess the smaller size is nice and it's certainly an impressive computer, but part of me thinks these are diminishing returns in terms of desk real estate.

If I was in the market for a Mini right now I'd prefer a slightly bigger footprint and the ability to add an NVMe drive over a slightly smaller computer.

This x100 for me

Making it a little smaller and taller just ... does nothing of use to me

"Great", I guess?

I'm sure it somehow cut materials, packaging and shipping costs for Apple or something, which is probably the only reason they did it at all.

Yes, absolutely!
The internal power supply and the single power cable allowed the 27" iMac to be such a clean setup.
Now I have multiple power cables and having to use a Thunderbolt cord from Mac mini to Studio Display.

iMacs are truly classic.

I purchased my first Mac Mini in 2007 ONLY because it was the cheapest Mac available. I didn’t care what it looked like. It’s doubtful new mini customers today will care about this smaller version’s appearance also. In fact - it just makes it seem less substantial.

Yeah, I'm sure they never thought about this when they were designing it.
