How heavy is the new magic keyboard, please?
I noticed this right away. The volume buttons are reversed from prior iPads. If you notice the volume slider, though, the right button moves the volume slider right and the left, left. So if you change your mindset from portrait to landscape, the change does make sense. It’s just weird and will take getting used to.I’m a little confused.. my volume buttons seem to be backwards. The button closest to the power button lowers and the button further from the power button increases??? Other than that oddity i love this thing!

It does not seem to be there anymore. I guess Apple’s abandoned any idea of portrait mode entirely. Too bad.Is this setting still available?

My 2 UK carriers EE and Vodafone offer E-sims on my UK iphoneBrilliant screen but eSIM only absolutely sux in the U.K
Isn't that a Veyron? To give it a car analogy — is this new iPad like a Volkswagen bug with a twin turbo V8 engine?
My EE eSIM failed to transfer from my M1 says not supported on my M4 🙈 and now need to go in store again coz I had issues getting a eSIM on the M1 originallyMy 2 UK carriers EE and Vodafone offer E-sims on my UK iphone
I’m seriously considering the 13” Air. My Air 4 still works fine, and generally fast enough for what I do on it (music making, web browsing mostly), so I can’t envisage how that could be faster - but good to hear it is!Received my new 11 inch Air. It’s a replacement for a 4th gen (A14 Bionic, I believe), and it is noticeably (NOTICEABLY) snappier and faster. My old iPad was running out of battery pretty quickly, and I really didn’t expect much of a performance boost, at least not that I’d notice. This is fantastic!
Sounds like you are having the same problems I encountered when I first when esim with AT&T and VZW in USA. If the back end at the telco is not set up correctly it won't work. Best of luck.My EE eSIM failed to transfer from my M1 says not supported on my M4 🙈 and now need to go in store again coz I had issues getting a eSIM on the M1 originally
Cheers dude, US is so far ahead in eSIM technology than us in the U.K even carriers say a physical sim is much betterSounds like you are having the same problems I encountered when I first when esim with AT&T and VZW in USA. When I gave up on Mac over 8 years ago, it wasn’t a financial decision. A you note that iPad can do 90% of what a Mac does (for you), and as you already note that iPad is so much more portable and versatile, perhaps you don’t need a Mac either.Convenience. A laptop is actually a PITA to carry around with you constantly. An iPad is the best ultraportable device and is so easy to carry around. A lot of times, I take it off the keyboard and it becomes even more portable. Is there an ultra-ultra portable?
I take it with me constantly inside my house and most of the time outside my house while still in town. The only time the MacBook leaves my desk is when I travel. The iPad can do 90% of what Macs can do and Macs can do 90% of what iPads can do, so it's that non-overlap and ultraportability that makes the iPad worth it. If you can't afford a high end iPad, just get an iPad Air or mini for a much cheaper price. To me, the major reason to get a iPad Pro is that screen, first the mini-LED on the 2021 version, and now the 2024 tandem OLED version.
Because it is so ultraportable and such a huge convenience, I use my iPad for almost all my computing needs because the best computer is the one that's with you.
My iPP M2 is the same way. When in landscape mode, the volume button closest the power button is volume down. The other is up. But if you hold the iPad in portrait mode, the volume buttons switch and the closest to power is volume up and the other is down. It seems to change the buttons function depending on portrait or landscape.I’m a little confused.. my volume buttons seem to be backwards. The button closest to the power button lowers and the button further from the power button increases??? Other than that oddity i love this thing!
Did not try it wired as that wouldn't be the way I would be using it. I do have it going through a Wifi6 router, or at least one that supports it. In the end I just decided there isn't much making use of the new features right now that it's best to hold off until WWDC to see what is announced and then rethink upgrading or waiting. Procreate doesn't even have their update out to make use of the new Pencil Pro.I think that's a wireless thing. Did you try it wired? I find it's a lot faster and more reliable. Apple may have added WiFi 6e, but if you don't have a 6e network, it wouldn't make a bit of difference no matter how powerful the iPad or Mac are.
Same thing happened to me with the dots and I had to input it manually. Worked the first time though. For those installing their new iPads, I did run into a couple of problems. When I first started up the new iPad, I got to the point where it attached to the old iPad and connected easily. Then it did the day one software update and rebooted. That's where the problems started. The new iPad trying to discover nearby devices stubbornly would not find the old iPad despite me waving the old iPad at the new one putting it within an inch of the device. After rebooting both devices, I finally got the new iPad to see the old iPad. I then ran into another problem. When you use the old iPad's camera to scan that globe of dots, it wouldn't work, though it worked the first time around before the software update. I ended up doing a manual connection by typing in a six digit code. The two iPads are finally in the process of transferring data for another couple of hours.
If you haven't updated the old iPad and plan to transfer to the new iPad, one suggestion is to try NOT updating the OS on the new iPad before doing the data transfer. I can't do that anymore to test it since I did do the update, but if you want to avoid those issues I had, it might be better to skip the upgrade first and upgrade it later after the transfer.
It is definitely faster, and the larger storage was a MUST for me, but otherwise it’s indistinguishable from my 4th gen Air. Honestly, if the battery wasn‘t dropping so quickly on my 4th gen I would have kept it while longer. The reason I bought this one now is so I can maximize the trade-in value on my 4th gen (It’s in perfect shape).I’m seriously considering the 13” Air. The bigger screen and more disk space is the draw for me, but since my current Air still works fine it’s making me hesitate. I need to see more posts like this!
Yeah, I’m tempted to hang on to my Air 4 for a bit longer - the battery is ok, unless I’m hammering it with multiple music apps, so even if I do get the 13” I might keep the Air 4 for general browsing - plus it works with my Pencil 2.It is definitely faster, and the larger storage was a MUST for me, but otherwise it’s indistinguishable from my 4th gen Air. I want to play with Logic Pro and Final Cut on this new iPad, and if I like it I may trade-up to a 13 inch in a few months when (hopefully) I’m a little more flush with cash. I want to see how much I use those apps first.
So was in the Apple Store today and got my hands on it. No question, the new Pro with the Magic Keyboard is tangibly and noticeably lighter than the previous model. It no longer felt like a "brick" and it felt no heavier nor bulkier to a MacBook Air. This is unquestionably the best iPad model thus far. I did not at all get the sense that this will bend easily, it felt pretty rugged. I'm still on a 2018 iPad Pro whose Folio keyboard just crapped out so......thinking.667 grams is what I've heard
The HW is cutting edge but ....iPad OS. We're pretty close - depending on what you use it for. That said, I could never go Mac-less with these devices. They are at least for me ad addition, not yet a replacement. So far I’m loving the iPad Pro and the Magic Keyboard. If only the software would keep up. I plugged into an external monitor, and window management is so bad. Good thing I don’t rely on that. Come on Apple, next month the new iPad OS needs a lot more than AI. As many have said, hardware is far ahead of the software.
approximately 650 grams which is 1.43 Lbs which is more then the 13" M4 iPad Pro weighs. (1.28 pounds (582 grams)How heavy is the new magic keyboard, please?
13" M4 iPad Pro = 1.28 pounds (582 grams), 11" M4 Ipad Pro = 0.98 pound (446 grams)with Brian Tong’s review showing that the 13-inch Magic Keyboard weighs 662 grams and The Verge’s review saying it weighs 658 grams.
