If it is pointless why are you posting?

Have you measured the dB level of a "noisy" nMP? Have you contacted apple for support? I am guessing no an no. What are you trying to accomplish with hand waving and hyperbole? Do you really think attempting work the crowd into a mob mentality is going to work? This thread is not only insane, it is pointless.

.....................
So it is "pointless". Let's say you are right.
Why then post here?

Not you, dummy. I meant the OP.

..........................
So some people call each other "trolls", "dummies" and so on.
Good that we are in a forum about technical issues with well educated members, respectful of other's opinion and point of view.
That makes one feel really good...to be among nice, friendly and kind people!
:D

To be fair, calling me dummy was accurate since I has mixed up the context. Also, I think most have respectfully stated that this thread is insanely pointless. Not sure what you expected, nobody here can do anything to help solve the issue which is subjective in the first place. If you want confirmation of your problem, start a poll. If you want to try and solve it, contact apple and let us know how it goes.

Please read the info of "ppxb" showing that Apple KNOWS IT!

No need of a "poll".
By now Apple finally acknowledges the noise problem as a REAL one, although they do not know yet how to solve it.
Kindly read what "ppxb" reports in the thread "Possible coil whine in my nMP ?"
post dated "Today 04:21 PM"
Then you might reconsider what is and what isn't "pointless"

It is pointless and so is the other thread. What are you thinking you can accomplish? Nobody in this forum can help you. All you will get is misguided empathy.

Leave the misguided empathy to me, I know what I am trying to do

............................
The only thing I want to accomplish is (to try to) help people to be informed.
I believed that my posts (modestly) did a bit of that.
I am neither expert in lemonade making nor in computer building but believe that sharing information with other people is useful.
Much better than criticizing those who try to be helpful.
Don't worry about "misguided empathy"towards me.
I have no ambition to get "popular" here and just do my best to avoid criticizing other people's opinions.
What you think about me is your business and does not hurt me.

I'll bet if you call Apple and repoprt this issue and ask if they have heard of it be

I'll bet if you call Apple and report this issue and ask if they have heard of it before they'll say no.
I've seen issues with 400+ pages in the Apple forums be reported as never heard it before when called.
Either thet're lying or are just not allowed to read anything!
Also if they receive more than one call with the same issue they are unable to make the connection.
Everyone's issue is a little different after all.

Riwam...you have made your point...over and over and over. We understand.

The horse is dead...and halfway to the glue factory. Give it a rest.

Riwam, like others I have also tried to point out how subjective this is. I am happy with my 8c 1TB 64GB D700. If your not, return it or don't buy one. There is a minimum 14 day return for a reason. I have nothing further to add to these posts

Ok, if the horse (not the nMP) is dead, R.I.P.

Even if someone starts a thread, and after a certain time it does not interest some people in this forum, they should not get mean and attack him for that.

Other people felt in one way or another concerned by this thread and each of them added one or more posts.
The starter of the thread is not responsible for all those additional posts of other members.
He does not force anybody to continue the subject. it's up to every member in the forum to say or not say something on any matter.

So why react in such an unfriendly way?
Simply leave this thread and read other threads which interest you. Isn't that much better and friendlier?

As for myself, I have already bought and already received my New Horse...I mean of course my nMP!
I have nothing against a burial of this matter as long as no other person adds a further post, which I cannot avoid!

Being nasty and unpleasant instead of friendly and nice...is NOT the most appropriate and helpful way to behave in any forum.
Even if you believe a thread to be entirely unnecessary, it does not CAUSE ANY ACTUAL HARM to anybody!!!
So just avoid it and go to what you prefer to read. It is as simply as that...
:D
I hope the soul of the buried Horse has a very happy and pleasant afterlife in the Great Plains of Manitou :)

My position to it, to be found in my post, concerns you as well.

Amen, brother!

...................
My clear answer also concerns you.:)

nobody has received a silent new Mini Pro

Therefore may I ask for kind owners of a nMP who can with entire certainty say that their nMP is truly silent and please add the specs of their computer.

The obvious answer is - "No. Truly silent new Mini Pros do not exist".

Next....

Even my new asus chromebox is not truly silent...if I put my ear right up to it I can hear the faintest of fan noise. Maybe you nMP buyers are expecting to much?

You know, it's really freaking irritating when someone spends this kind of coin on a computer, has a problem, comes to point it out and then all the know-it-all fanboys start telling him to shut up about it.

I don't own a new Mac pro, I'd like to, but I haven't dropped the coin yet.

I don't have any fight in this game, but posts like the OP are VERY USEFUL to those of us on the fence about buying or waiting at this point.

Things like noises are VERY subjective and also tremendously varied based on age (those of us over 40 can't hear anywhere near the frequency sweep you young kids do) and other factors. So if you can't hear a noise, then great, but don't feel the need to come in and thread-crap on someone else's problems with a very expensive new machine just because you feel some need to stick up for your boyfriend at Apple.

In other words, in a thread like this, a simple "yep I can hear it" or "nope, not on mine" is a LOT more useful than you all telling the OP to leave.

No, no problem detected until now.

Riwam, you have received yours. Now the all-important question: can YOU hear the whine?

...............................
My configuration for your information is 6 core, 1 TB, D500 and just the minimum RAM 3 x 4 GB compulsory sold by Apple.
I have not yet any TB connected device and use only USB and an adaptor from Mini DisplayPort (TB) to my 6 year old DVI 24" monitor.

At present it is very quiet but has no been stressed in any way.
Until now I could not detect either any other of the problems reported by different users, like spontaneous shutting down, wake-up problems or graphic faults shown in their displays with some types of software.

However some people have reported that the noise problem appeared only after a certain time (a week or so) or under certain use (software) in an initial quiet nMP.
I therefore hope that the nMP I received remains free of bugs, even under heavy stress. :)
Time will show if this is the case or not.

How is your nMP working and where will you buy additional RAM, which I suppose you intend to do?

you should hear me (and i assume many others here) talk to their friends.. i'd get banned 20 times if i had a friendly conversation here.

So... You have no whine. Whats next to worry about?

I don't worry "in advance"

.............................................
Your question seems to be ironical and presumably to make fun of people reading this thread, some having true reasons to worry.
I do not use to "worry" of what is not at present any "cause of worry".
I simply monitor the behavior of my nMP, hoping it will continue to work free of bugs.
There is no absolute warranty in this world for anything, including the time everyone of us has left to live (nothing new of course...).
The expectations concerning the operation free of problems of the nMP I received from Apple are from that point of view not different to my own life expectations ;-))
So I am doing my best to enjoy daily things in life (including machines) as long as possible...
Hope to have answered your (ironical?) question.

Have you installed the Mac Pro firmware update by any chance? I only noticed the whine afterwards. My replacement machine is preparing for shipment today, will update the thread how it goes.

Aren't we supposed to be notified to perform any update?

I have only updated the software saying I should do so, Saschke.
Am I not supposed to be told by the computer to install any newly appeared and necessary upgrade?
I have not seen any such message yet...
