Bro stockholders are responding to extreme global instability lol it's got next to nothing to do with Apple
Also they completely overhauled logic in 2019
Can you cite specific examples of how stockholders ‘overhauled logic’ in 2019?

I think they mean Apple overhauled Logic in 2019.

Also, look at MS Office. It's a stable suite, not a lot of groundbreaking new features in recent years. Also moved to a subscription model.

Apple stock price dropped some points after the announcements. Seems that a lot of people agree with you. It has been on a straight down-hill run since March 9th.

What stockholders are seeing is a new computer that VERY few people will buy and zero new innovation in the other product lines. Just predictable incremental stuff.

The WORSE part of Apple'a line is their Mac software. Nothing new in the last 12+ years. I'm not kidding. Development is dead. Lok at Pages, Keynote, Garage Band and Final Cut Pro and Logic. Any new thinking there?
As a heavy Logic user I'll say my only concern is that they maintain a stable app. I don't need a regular rollout of new bells and whistles. It has its detractors but to me it's been a fantastic value--I think I paid $200 to upgrade from V8 and have been using it for about ten years now.

..I expected Apple to prioritize the release of their 27" iMac with Apple silicon, as this is an important, mainstream product for them. As others have noted, the Studio is more of a niche product....

Maybe they did NOT release the mainstream product because of the chip shortage. Why release a product that can not be built. So instead they release this studio Mac that will only sell a few thousand units per year.

What Apple is doing is placing the few chips that have in the product with the highest margin. Remember, Tim Cook runs Apple. Maximizing profit is what he does best. He is not a "technical guy".

I think Tesla did the same thing. If you only have a limited amount of parts why put those parts in the low-end car? Build only the expensive models.

It doesn’t matter if Cook is technical or not; what matters is if he is doing what’s best for shareholders, as that’s his primary job.

What’s more likely is that the 27” iMac is dead. The max studio + studio display is meant to replace it, and will likely sell pretty well (millions of units at least).

I am traveling so I didn’t get to watch the event video but just read the Macrumors live blog (thank you for that) and seen the announcement.

Has Apple lost their damn mind???

So the price of entry for an M1 Ultra chip is $3799 for 512GB SSD drive or $3999 for 1TB

FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS AND YOU GIVE ME A 1TB DRIVE!!! This is 2022 and your high end Mac debuts with a 1TB drive. Are you kidding me???

That is not even counting how overpriced it us to start with … HOLY BATBUCKS

Maxed out build is $7999 !!!

and let’s talk about the dispay you will need … not a 32” … not a 30” but a 27” 5K display for $1600 !!!

Want to adjust the height on that display then add $400 for A STAND. A FOUR HUNDRED DOLLAR MONITOR STAND.

And now I am reading 27” iMac is discontinued.

There is not an instrument made that can measure how disappointing today’s event was for me. My feeling are literally hurt. I feel like an idiot for being an Apple guy for the last 17 years.

The rest of that crap they announced in fancy new colors was total crap too.

Anyone else this upset?

Whenever people compare Mac prices to those of PCs with "comparable" specs, I just think of my 2012 iMac that's still sitting on my desk, running the latest FinalCutPro, Illustrator, Photoshop and Lightroom on a daily basis without skipping a beat. 10 years. I would've bought 3 PCs in that time, just to keep Windows from grinding to a halt.

Apple devices retain not only software support and capabilities for much longer than their PC counterparts, their resell value slope is far far longer.

A Mac Studio purchased today will still work in 2032, and it'll probably be running without any issues, likely on macOS 22.0

How do you figure it's disappointing? I think this is the first time in a very long time Apple has shown its returning to its post Intel roots. There has been a severe lack of machines since those days that have impressed me and been targeted to creative pros/prosumers. This is the first new Mac I have purchased in a long long time that is almost on par with my lust for the QuickSilver G4 when it came out. I have never bought a new Apple display before and I did this time. After years of despising the "Tim Cook Apple" I'm finally glad to see Apple being Apple again. The pricing is not off the mark at all. This thing is close to what the G4 Cube was supposed to be and here is how that prices out today:

G4 Cube
Model2000 Price2022 Inflation Conversion
450Mhz 64MB RAM 20GBHD$1,799$2,964.02
500Mhz 128MB RAM 30GBHD$2,299$3,787.82
500Mhz 256MB RAM 40GBHD$2,799$4,611.62
BTO 500Mhz 1.5GB RAM 40GB Radeon Upgrade$5,399$8,895.37

Mac Studio
ModelPrice
M1 Max Base$1,999
M1 Ultra 20/48/32 64GB 1TB$3,999
M1 Ultra Top Config$7,999

So in reality this is a deal, even maxed out. Let's Compare Displays:

Apple Display's in 2000
Model2000 Price2022 Inflation Conversion
Apple Studio 15"$999$1,645.95
Apple Cinema 22 Cinema Display (top of the line)$3,999$6,588.74

Current Apple Displays
ModelPrice
Studio Display$1,599
Pro Display (w/ Pro Stand)$5,998.00

Even there, still a deal. So in closing this is the most Apple that Apple has been since under the Tim Cook flag. I bet the new Mac's will sell well. We are leaving the dark ages and starting to see light.

Who mentioned anything about PC? I didn't.

I am well aware of Apple pricing and how insane some if it is

G4 was a total failure for Apple.

Comparing current pricing to how crappy something was priced before doesn't move the needle forward for me.

All these people saying "this $4000 Mac Studio blows away this 2 year old Mac Pro that costs $17,000" makes me feel sorry for the people who spent $17,000 2 years ago. That has to hurt.

I never buy any of that high end crap that is just going to depreciate like crazy. Let the business owners buy that crap.

As it stands right now I have money in my pocket, want to transition to Apple silicon from my 27" Intel iMac, and Apple has nothing to sell me. Shame on them!!!

They said this new box is for Studio Pros. Fine. Then they say the last Mac to transition is the Mac Pro. Fine. So now there will be 2 Pro desktops, a low end switcher box, and a low end consumer iMac.

Where's the desktop Mac for those power users who want productivity, gaming, and entertainment??? I don't see it anymore.

That is what upsets me.

Quite the opposite here – I find it inexpensive. I just ordered both the nano-textured monitor with adjustable stand and the maxed out Mac Studio.

Just so you know, the $10,000 USD you just dropped on a computer + monitor is considered "expensive" to most folks. Doesn't mean it's not worth it, but that's a lot of money for the average person to spend on a computer setup, even many pros (depending on what they're using it for, of course).

This is some of the best Apple news ever. Finally. I've been waiting for this for years, that Apple finally offers a desktop Mac between Mac Pro and Mac Mini without a forced (glossy) display. All-in-one computers have so many disadvantages but hardly any advantages. I have therefore never bought an iMac.

I hope there will still be a better Mac mini with a bit more power and more ports (or alternatively a cheaper Mac Studio).

But they could've given you that without taking away the 27" iMac, so not sure why you'd be rejoicing that a computer that many, many people love is now axed (at least for now).

Side question, if your keyboard and mouse won't stay attached to a Mac mini, why do you think they will stay attached to a 27" iMac?

I'm assuming he's used other Macs besides the Mini and has only had issues with the Mini.

So, what affordable display shall I buy for the Mac mini?

I don't need a 5K monitor, so I'd just go with an LG 4K 27" + monitor, which is going to start around $300-$400

In 1999 I paid $3,300 for a Gateway Solo 9300. In 2021 I paid $2,699 for a MBP M1Pro 16.

The Solo was a nice machine at the time, but closer to mid range compared to the MBP being in the top range. If I was in the market for a desktop machine, I'd be all over the Mac Studio. What an incredible value anyway you slice it, especially given the expected life of the machine.

LOL the G4 line of products was one of Apples most successful lines that got them to where they are today. They were priced pretty competitive at the time IMO for the performance they offered.

Using iMac in the same thought as “Power User” is funny. The Power User desktop is the Mac Studio. This is what we’ve been waiting/asking for now for years.

Apples biggest mistake was making these “Power User” iMacs in the first place when we really wanted a proper desktop Mac. I am happy Apple abandoned it.

It's not the desktop Mac we've been asking. There is no user-upgradeable RAM or additional slots for internal SSDs, the memory limit is low for the price, and you can't upgrade the CPU / GPU / RAM independently of the other two. The 2020 iMac was better value for money for my purposes, and I would like to replace it eventually with a Mac that supports 256 GB or 512 GB RAM without having to pay $10k.

That is what the Mac Pro void fills. We have yet to see the replacement or pricing for it or the design. The reality though is this is not that important to most use cases anymore.

The future of computing is the removal of user upgradable parts for a multitude of reasons. This won't be a purly Apple thing for long and really isn't today. The need for RAM upgrades has become a niche group at this point. It's not 2000 anymore. "Cloud" storage for better or worse has removed the need for most people to maintain large storage pools locally. The people that grew up in the 90's computer era are not the target demographic anymore. The ideas of the past are not important to the generations coming up. How we use technology is changing and once gain (and I hate to say it) Apple is pushing us to where it needs to go. Computing is evolving and this is what it looks like.

The primary benefit of user upgradeable parts is that you don't have to pay the ridiculous prices the vendor charges for RAM and storage. They make the computer much better value for money if you need more memory or disk space than the average user.

My ideal desktop Mac would have an M1 Pro with 256 GB or 512 GB ECC RAM and 4 TB or 8 TB storage. I wouldn't mind more CPU/GPU performance, but I wouldn't pay for it either, because I don't get any real benefit from that performance. Macs are already fast enough, but their low RAM/SSD capacity limits the amount of data I can process.

That is the Mac the poster was referring to

No, Studio is not of power user - it is for PROs - Studio people

And iMac is pretty much the most successful Mac product ever since the return of Jobs

Cloud RAM ??? ROFL

Hard Drive = Storage

RAM = Memory

Cloud has jack diddly (technical term) to do with RAM in your computer.

But I agree on one point the Tide pod eating generation is driving the bus ... right off the cliff LOL

Woz was always pro do it yourself and Jobs was always against it.

Jobs didn't want expansion slots in the original Apple. Jobs didn't want people to be able to open their computer case. (thus the crazy tool needed to get in the early Macs)

Jobs didn't want 3rd party Apps on the iPhone!!

But for as much as Jobs gets all the credit for his successful he never really gets held accountable for the bad decisions and failures.

Sadly, Cook & company are trying to be Jobs clones. They even dress like him and do his mannerisms in the events. It is kind of sad actually.

Well, even before the iMac Pro came out in 2017, the 27" Retina iMac was very popular with Power Users. But yeah, there are people like me that prefer having a headless desktop computer, like the Mac Studio is.

I did not say anything about “cloud RAM”. I said RAM upgrades are a niche and storage is moving to the cloud.
