I don't understand why people who don't like HDR go into an HDR thread to say they don't like it, it sucks, or whatever then are shocked that they are not received with open arms.

HDR is a style like any other. Just because YOU don't like it doesn't mean it sucks. I read one comment that said people won't want their wedding or prom pictures in HDR therefore it is useless.....well excuse me. Since when are wedding and prom pictures the end all of photography?

Would anyone go into an art museum and bash a Picasso simply because it isn't photorealistic? Seems like a close minded thing to do, to want all styles to conform to your own personal tastes.

I have no qualms with people who come in and offer their opinion and critique individual photos, but it is just a waste of time to offer a broad "HDR sucks so this photo must suck" statement.

…this issue has been lying low for a while, please don't reignite it.

Thanks for the comments. I'm just starting with HDR but so far have been happy with the results.

Yes, the pictures do seem a bit dark. Often, the product from photomatix is very dark and I end up having to fix that in Aperture. The shot going into photomatix is not anywhere near that dark, so I'm not really sure if it's just the way HDR is, or if I'm doing something incorrectly.

I also wonder if the fact that I do all my editing at night in a dark room with only the computer screen as the light is affecting things in some way in that I'm thinking things are lighter than they really are?

Regardless, thanks!

This is my favorite photo out of the 75 I took today, so i edited it a few different ways. Heres the HDR version, i like the way it turned out. But my favorite is the edited one i posted in the daily photo page. The only reason I kept the HDR version is it reminds me of a painting.

Very nice. I think that's what I like about many HDR pictures, they look like a hybrid between a photograph and a painting. Some have been saying it looks like a video games, but in the case of yours, I don't see a video game at all

Just got my Alpha A200 digital camera and am just reading on HDR. The camera can only do autobracketing at 0.7 intervals, so I did this one at of a single RAW file instead and adjusted the exposure accordingly.

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see this picture used in a magazine (w/ a few less distractions in the image). Great work.

Trying HDR with people...

HDR makes them look ghostly–I'd like to try this effect sometime. Neat!

That wasn't aimed at me was it? I'm certainly not anti-HDR, I've been trying it out myself - I just don't think I've come up with anything good enough to post yet.

This is my favourite thread in the forum - Valdore is my hero ;)

That's a very nice image, I'm not sure what the HDR does for it though..

It's given it that 'enchanted forest' sort of look. Where you wouldn't be surprised if you saw some fairies or if a hobbit walked out from behind a tree . . . :)

No not at all :) Just a general response to various comments I've read in this very long thread.

Here is my contribution for the day haha CC welcome

<<image of dog>>

We could argue all day about the nose being in focus and the eyes not being (some people like that effect), but I prefer the eyes in focus. Or, perhaps, close down the aperture to get a wider depth of field?

Cute dog, btw.

I'm vacationing in Maui right now (poor me, I know I know) and yesterday we drove the Road to Hana. BEAUTIFUL!! If you visit Maui, take the drive, and take your camera. This doesn't look too heavy on the HDR, but it did do the right job on bringing out the green vegetation.

Still finding photomatix hard to figure out.

Are there any tone mapping "presets" that can be downloaded?

Or maybe if posters to this thread could maybe include the photomatix settings somehow.

I'm pretty sure that would help me and maybe others.

I did what Valdore recommended...look at the quote Cheffy Dave posted right before you...try those settings and you should get the desired results...and then try moving certain sliders around to see what happens..

Good luck
