posted these in the photo of the day, but I think they belong here too.

these were taken at Merrill Creek Reservoir in Warren County NJ. Tried also taking pictures of the Osprey and Bald Eagles, but definitely need a 400mm lens for that, at LEAST.

ouch those are badddd dude, HDR is over the top and the photos arent great at all to start off with. HDR doesnt solve bad photography skills im afraid

care to explain? I can see where your coming from about the over the top HDR, but, compositionally, I would like to think a few are rather decent. Correct me if I'm totally mistaken, but they look rather alright to me.

This is a very nice pic. i wanted to ask.. how do you manage to keep the sky black? I have a great difficulty in HDR with the sky. i can not get it to show black in night pictures, and i also get a lot of noise in long exposeres, even at ISO 100. Any advice would be appreciated...

I know what you mean... it does get a bit difficult. Most of the time it can be fixed with a simple Curve adjustment in Photoshop. I just tell the program what color range in the picture should be black or manually adjust the black clipping. If that doesn't work, I've sometimes gone in and masked the sky as a selection and worked just on the sky... darkening it, bluring it to remove some noise, etc... However, on this picture it was just a simple curves adjustment (I believe).

Ahhh, so its the curves. I recently did a couple hdrs and the sky ended up horrible, but everything else in the picture was so perfect. Im going to go back and see if i can fix the sky in them now. I had to settle for ropping the sky out, as i didnt really know what to do with it, and it was ruining my photo. lol.

Here's my effort on a shot I took in New York a few years ago:

This is a very excellent photo. I would only suggest brightening it up a bit. In my opinion, it's a little dark.

Just an idea:
