That screenshot you showed of Disk Utility.... what are you booted to when you took that?
I believe boots from Mac OS X Base system as the picture. I cannot do anything for this .I cannot choose another disk because iMac can’t see them. My hands are tied.

It sounds like your USB installer key is not setup correctly. That iMac should should work up to El Capitan. Do you have access to another Mac to make another installer?

Option key still dead

I'm not following.... you don't think the option key is working, or it is working and just does not show the USB key?
When i hear the apple sound i press option key but nothing happens. Still opens in Mac OS X Utilities.
I've tried all combination with keys but nothing ...

Yes it is the Bluetooth KB that I mention before. Below is the key

That is the correct key. Can you tell if that KB is even connected? Can you borrow a USB KB to try that out?
The key is connected because i can go menu down with it into Utilities.

My question is why disk startup cannot see the bootable usb ? What is going on with this mac? Are you sure that iMac 2008 can boot from usb bootable disk?

Yes... a 2008 iMac can definitely option key boot to a USB installer and you iMac should run up to El Capitan.

I'm wondering if it does not see the BT KB until after it is booted? Can you borrow a USB KB to test? That is all I can think of at this point.

Goodmorning from Greece. What is going on with this crap? This suppose to be simple.
Also :
1. i use another BT KB and works perfect (logitech are both BT KB)
2. i 've tried 2 ways to install OS X (after format). First with bootable USB and second via internet (downloads the latest OS X)

Hey, I’m having pretty much the same problem as these other users. I tried to reset my iMac and I think I might’ve accidentally deleted my Mac HD? Honestly I don’t really know. :( Someone please help me

It looks like you still have a recovery partition on there. Can you command-r boot to recovery and reinstall the OS from there?

Hey all, I seem to be having a similar problem.

I am trying to factory reset my iMac so I can sell it, so I went to Recovery Mode first by restarting my iMac and holding down “Command” and “R”, I then proceeded to go into “Disk Utility” and go to “Macintosh HD” and clicked “Erase” under the “APFS” format.

When I tried to reboot my iMac I went into Internet Recovery Mode with the spinning globe.

From here I went to “Reinstall macOS and tried to install “High Sierra”, it then showed that the drive was locked.

I have attached pictures of the screens I see, along with my set up before I tried to Factory Reset and my “diskutil list”.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

It looks like you have a Fusion drive setup there.

command-option-r boot back to Internet recovery (you should see the grey spinning globe first). Then in the Utilities menu open Terminal and run the command below. That should wipe and reset the Fusion drive. Then quit Terminal and reinstall the OS.

Code:
diskutil resetFusion
