That looks great. Must say, I am more impressed with the Hermes than the Edition. Does anyone know why the deployment band/watch cost $200 more than the single tour? Are they really charging $200 just for the deployment?

I dunno but I really want that band for my black SS, just wish the lugs weren't silver....amazon search here i come lol

I'm considering getting this band to go with my Hermes single tour that came yesterday - but how does that leather feel? It doesn't look like a very soft leather - in the photos it looks a little hard and (for lack of a better word) plasticy. I've got some oil leather treatment I could use to soften it up but I'd rather not have to do that on a $340 watch strap. Do you like the feel of it? Thanks for any info

It is very soft and smooth on the inside. The outside of the fauve is also soft, but the colored bands feel a bit different as they are treated. They are not plasticky at all, particularly not the fauve Barenia.

Note that the first few days it may take a little extra effort to pull the strap through the leather loops as they are a bit tight, but they naturally loosen fairly quickly.

Yeah the Fauve is what I have now for my Hermes Apple Watch Series 2. I like the band a LOT. I'm just not sure if I would bond with the heavy textured look of the blue Hermes band that you have - but the fauve feels so nice that it has me wanting some more Hermes watch bands. I was also looking at their Feu band but I found out it's a lot more orange than red. Are you enjoying your blue Hermes band quite a bit?

I've been debating back and forth about getting a series 2. Originally, I was convinced that I would get a Nike Sport and only use that for workouts and then my SS for everything. Then, my son wanted to buy my original 42mm SS if I got a new one. I would just give it to him. I placed an order for a Space Black SS last week, but I just cancelled since it was still 3-4 weeks. I may just get the Hermes Single Tour.

I still don't understand why Apple won't sell or offer more watch faces like Hermes or Nike. They can offer other designs and options or allow developers. Just me being greedy wanting more faces and I may be the only one who wants more analog faces like Hermes and Nike.

I don't think you'd regret getting an Hermes single tour.

I'm just guessing - but I wonder if part of the reason why Apple keeps the watch faces locked down pretty tightly is they don't want a bunch of hideous watch faces out there giving people that negative impression of the watch - but I have no idea.

I also think it helps them with the "exclusive" aspect for large brands like Hermes. It worked on me! I absolutely LOVE my Hermes model.

Exclusivity aside, there's the problem of policing third party watch faces for copyright and trademark violations. You know if Apple opened it up, they'd get flooded with imitation Rolex, Hermes, Nike and other branded faces, and they'd have to make calls on when a face is similar enough to a branded face to warrant being kicked off their faces store. The hassle is probably not worth Apple's time and money.

That said, I wish I could have both the Nike and Hermes faces, and switch between them depending on my mood.

I have the etoupe (taupe) as well as the fauve.

I have never had this band in my hands but it must be smooth from the inside. The grain on the outside could make the band a bit less smooth as the Fauve Barenia I have on my Original Apple watch Hermès, but again I have no comparison.

What I personally dislike about the other color Hermès straps is that they have no contrast stitching. Also the grain is not of my taste or the smooth leather I identify Hermès with...but it all is a matter of taste. I also miss the Blue Jean color which was available on the original Double Loop. It ha stitching too and a real Hermès color as Fauve Barenia too :)

That said it might be an idea to have a look at the new colors for the Classic Buckle bands of Apple. They have lovely Hermès alike colts and finally stitching since rev 3. I consider buying the red an Midnight blue :)

Try IWC and see what they charge you for a deployment buckle ;) (200 bucks is a bargain in high end watch land)

Excellent choice. I have the original Hermèes and ordered a Space Black SS Series 2 to have best of both worlds :)

This. I forget which smart watch, but I remember reading about one that allowed you to upload faces, and most were copies of existing watches like Rolex, etc.

I was tempted by the Hermes Apple Watch, because the band is obviously nice and the analog faces are the best looking ones out there, but that's not saying much because the Apple analog faces all pretty much stink. WHY have around face on a square watch (and, yes, I get that the corners are used for complications, but one could come up with a different design)? If Apple offered just one decent analog face (Simple, without any hour/minute track is about as close as it gets), I'd have no interest in the Hermes watch because I use the Modular face virtually all the time and would use the analog face on limited occasions. I'd just get the band if I really wanted it.

I pulled the plug and ordered the 42mm SS Hermes Fauve Barenia Single Tour with AppleCare+ - looks like 3-4 weeks for delivery. My son is more excited because he gets my 42mm SS Series 0 and I will also give him a few bands.

I think the selling point may have been the quality of leather, but I could have gotten that with a separate purchase - the watch faces really helped. As simple as those are, Apple is really controlling watch faces and a few of the best are the Hermes Analog and Nike Analog faces. The watch faces, leather band and extra orange band really offer a unique combination.

I understand the concerns over knockoff faces and possible lawsuits, but Apple itself could offer many types of watch faces and charge .99-$3.99 for each face and control design. My most common face today are the Activity Analog and Modular, but after awhile, I get bored with the "weak" look of these faces and was always hoping Apple would open up or offer more faces.

Ya'll did it now. I bit the bullet and preordered a Hermes. That leather band is just too pretty to resist. Wife will be pissed, but oh well, you only live once!
Same here... my partner's going to bitch for at least a year (thankfully i start my international mba mid october, so i'll be out of reach in 1 week's time - and so long I won't really tell how much i cost)...

:D:rolleyes:;)

If I may:

It seems like a lot of the posters in this thread are largely unfamiliar with Hermès?

Have you folks purchased any Hermès' products prior to the watch or this your first Hermès purchase?

I have a couple Calvi's, Ulysse PM, and their cologne. I keep saying it but it's so true. Their leather products are simply the best at this price point.

company perspective: Band with a Deployant lasts longer => they sell fewer replacement bands => got to charge more in the first place ;)

consumer perspective: band with a deployant lasts longer => pay more in the first place, but don't have to replace it as soon. not an awful deal..

in the watch world, bands are essentially regarded as consumables, no? in the same way your printer consumes toner, eventually you'll need to replace the band.

Right. I am in vintage IWC and never heard somebody complaining on both deployment and band pricing :)

The single tour band alone is $340, so if the deployment is available as band only, it would be $540?

I have the etoupe (taupe) as well as the fauve.
The etoupe looks great in person, and looks more formal IMO than the fauve.

I wonder if they'll ever offer the etoupe with the deployment clasp. I tried that and it's quite a nice invention. You don't wear out the band holes and it's fast and easy to take off/on with the deployment clasp. I don't understand why that band style is so hard to come by?? And they might limit it to only the fauve. I'd like to see it in the etoupe too.

I am still searching on this but could it be that the deployment buckle is a standard Hermès part which you can buy separately (in the future) ?

:)

Need to catch up some culture in this regard: since you are from Munich and I am from Bolzano, we could meet up for lunch or such. ;)

No noot from Munich, but from the Netherlands. Just stay in contact wth the Munich Hermès store on trivial matters only, that is all ;)

I completely agree about third party faces - could turn into an aesthetic and legal cluster****.

As for the analogue faces - I'm starting to think I'm the only one who likes them. My favourite face right now is Simple with hour marks, second hand/date in mint, weather conditions bottom left and activity bottom right. Midnight sport band. Well, favourite until my Hermes AW arrives.

When I first saw the AW I thought - wow, that looks awesome, but suspiciously like the Ikepod Solaris watch by Marc Newsom (esp with the Milanese band)...... then turned out he had pretty much designed the AW! Then I saw the rubber bands he had made for a different Ikepod model and everything made sense.

The discussion about policing for 3rd party watch faces is interesting. I had a Huawei (android wear) Watch for a while and really liked it even though it didn't play as nicely with iOS as does the Apple Watch obviously. Anyway, maybe the issue is that the android wear market isn't big enough to bother with policing, but there is a large, active community of people making and trading watch faces including many explicitly designed to be knock offs of Rolex, IWC, Patek, etc.

Hasn't that always been the case with Apple vs Android?

FWI - if anyone is interested, the deployment buckle is back on the UK Hermes store for next day delivery. Just cancelled my Apple Single Tour order and upgraded!

EDIT: Wow. That was quick. Already disappeared again from the site!

I think I'll pick up the etoupe as my second band instead of the other 2. The blue looks nice but Im not 100% sold on it. Wish they still sold the black

Check with your local Hermes. They had two black single tour straps when I went on release day. They can also order one for you.
