if my boss still, after 5 times of being told, didn't grasp that there isn't a small choice - because it comes bundled with the M/L band to comprise the three pieces you get in the box...

the reason i spoke authoritatively on the matter - and to use your interpretation, as if you were being an idiot - is twofold. one, i have made the same point at least 4 times in different ways and you still misunderstand it every time (this is the idiot part). and secondly, i have evidence to back up what i say (this is the authority part).
It's ok. I was terribly wrong and I do apologize for missing your accurate point. I was convinced thet the & wasn't there and it didn't matter to what I was trying to say. I'm not even sure after reading your responses why I think it is confusing. I kept thinking someone with small wrists who wants the larger AW would be caught off guard.

Anyway, we must stop the wasted space but we can definitely refer people to this page for clarification and to make me look bad. Lol

I'm old so maybe that it is? I probably took offense to the words that sounded smug or talked down to... pet peeve at my age is when some cocky kid (not saying you) starts talking trash or smug where you just want them to say it professionally. However the only true fact is I am old and that is probably the problem. My recall blew. :)

I have to say that Apple calling the Sports band pieces S/M, M/L, L/XL is confusing. Why couldn't they just be S, M, L?

I have to say that Apple calling the Sports band pieces S/M, M/L, L/XL is confusing. Why couldn't they just be S, M, L?

firstly because they overlap. ignoring the XL part, if it was just small and large, that would suggest discrete bands, one of which fits one size and one the other. the S/M and M/L indicates that there is a medium portion which both bands would fit; apple has cleverly made it so they don't fully align and those in the "medium" portion can adjust by half sizes by using either the S/M or M/L band (if someone is between holes 1 and 2 on the M/L band, they'll get a perfect fit from the S/M band)

secondly, XL didn't exist at launch, so it would still almost certainly be known as XL now. Nobody launches a sizing scheme with just "small" and "medium".

Absolutely! Will grab some shots of it tomorrow! Good to know about the leather balm. I was going to try to work a bit into mine, but wasn't sure how much to apply.
[doublepost=1476504800][/doublepost]

I am on the last hole if I want it to be snug. I can do the 2nd to last if I like it looser. I have a feeling that if this stretches, I'll have to find a leather guy to add another hole or two.

The orange sport band did come only in the M/L with the 42MM. I think this is oddly discriminatory toward people with smaller wrists and I doubt that extra half a strap itself would cost more than a few cents. I think it might be a packaging issue more than an issue of cost for the strap. I can wear a sport on the last hole and have it fit okay (mostly because the extra band that gets tucked inside helps make the whole thing tighter, but I really prefer the S/M sport band for my wrist.

I don't have tiny wrists for a girl, but I don't have large ones, either. I don't like 38MM watch cases and my other AW was a 42MM so I have lots of bands and am invested in the 42MM already so I wouldn't switch anyway.
[doublepost=1476504995][/doublepost]

Oh, hey! You and I have the reverse problem. I normally wear the S/M sport and I only have the M/L with my Hermes.

I can wear the M/L in the last hole and it looks alright, but the S/M looks more my size (in the 4th smallest hole, oddly enough).
[doublepost=1476505178][/doublepost]

I wanted the band and was going to just stick with the 42MM AW SS (WSB) that I'd already bought and buy one of the Hermes bands, but that would be 600 plus 340 and at 940, why not just spend 1200 and get the watch faces and the Hermes orange sport band?

In that case, I'm really just spending an additional 260 and getting the complete set. No big there, not really.

I'm female too and was surprised to find my wrist not as relatively small as I'd thought the first time I put on a sport band. I have child size hands so surely the smaller half would be the right one? Nope!

I would offer to trade with you when I eventually get a Hermès watch, but I wear 38mm (the 42 looks too big on my wrist and I too have many bands).

Here's a photo from when I speed tested my watch versus the new series 1.

Unfortunately I don't know that Apple could send you another band piece since maybe they don't even make the missing pieces and that's why we don't get them. The color isn't the same as their other orange bands.

They clearly really should, of course. Surely it wouldn't cost much more per watch to do so.

Hmmmm. Okay, so there is some method to this madness, but it doesn't change the fact that the end result is a very confusing sizing system. Reading the exchange between you and BlueMoon was like watching the joke about "Who is on first base?" "Who." It just goes in circles until one side realizes that the other side doesn't know "Who" is a name.

:) yep, I truly didn't get his point even though he was right. For the life of me, I don't remember a choice when I bought my bands last year. I remember buying M/L and getting three pieces and I thought I was just making a simple point that Hermes M/L was probably making people believe it was three pieces. I should have read back. My bad.

I decided to goes Hermes because I was very disappointed with the Watch face choices and the poor leather quality of Apple. A year plus later and my Apple leather bands look exactly the same and very plastic and no aging.

I guess it's along the lines of restaurants that have medium, large, and extra large, and get all confused when you ask for a small because they don't have a size named small. It drives me nuts because by definition there is a smallest size of the three, which is therefore the "small" I asked for. Starbucks baristas have been particularly bad at that logic in the past.

Anyway. In this case, is lack of aging a good or bad thing?

Depends on your point of view. Like my leather jacket, I want the aging that gives character to the jacket as my stamp of ownership. It's also typical of more expensive leather to age - like a trademark. Nothing wrong with apples bands as they released newer versions, they at least seemed closer to "worth the price".

Is the deployment buckle worth the addition £200 cost? Does it add any additional benefit (leather wear etc) other than when putting the watch on?
I think it's worth the extra because it's cool and not an ordinary band. :) If I can get it separately, I will. The practical benefits are mainly that it's easier to put on and take off, and it saves the leather from wear and tear. Once set, no need to bend the leather everyday into a buckle, and no need to poke the "spoke" into the hole everyday. It's getting the benefit of a link bracelet while wearing a leather band. I tried it out in a store and it works great. It also looks better than a plain buckle, IMO.

Except it isn't, in this case. Medium is not the smallest band. There isn't even a "Medium".

You get the full range of Small, Medium and Large across two different band sizes. Medium is duplicated and slightly offset for extra fit for those people in the medium range. The two bands are labels S/M and M/L as they are small to medium and medium to large. They come in one package. On the Apple website it has always stated that the band comes in the sizes S/M and M/L.

There is also another set of bands available in black and white, which comes with the medium to large and a large to extra large (forgoing the small part).

How "flush" is the buckle to the rest of the band when you wear it? does it fee noticeable and chunky under your wrist or no difference in thickness to the leather?

Ah, good question. I didn't notice any thickness at all when wearing it. Then again, I was looking for any feeling of chunkiness. It felt quite comfortable to me, more so than a buckle. In a way, the deployment may be more flush feeling because with a buckle you have everything smooth and level all around the buckle, then buckle bulges out a bit. With the deployment it's smooth and level over a larger area around the underside of your wrist. The deployment is a great invention, I wonder why it's not used more often??

Note: I have a medium size wrist, which seems to be in just the right range for the deployment. I would think if you have a wrist bigger or smaller than what's right for the Hermes 42mm band then the deployment could be located on an area of your wrist that's not as comfortable.
[doublepost=1476561435][/doublepost]
apple has cleverly made it so they don't fully align and those in the "medium" portion can adjust by half sizes by using either the S/M or M/L band (if someone is between holes 1 and 2 on the M/L band, they'll get a perfect fit from the S/M band)
Wow! that is really clever. I'm in the medium range. It came with the M/L already attached to the AW and since my fit in the 3rd hole is almost perfect and the extra leftover band didn't bother me, I never even tried on the S/M band. But I know now if I wanted less leftover band and did put on the S/M, the fit would be off by half a hole!!

Can we all stop going on about sport band sizing and go back to chatting about the Hermes AW and how awesome it is? :);)
Sure. I've been a fan of the Hermès since Day 1. The price arbitrage is somewhat puzzling but I do like the watch faces.

have had the watch for quite some time now.

have worn it once.

just switched out to the Hermès Orange sport band today so I can perhaps become more active.

one thing i absolutely CAN NOT STAND about the Apple Watch: There is no option to have the watch face 'always on'. Super annoying.

There's no way that would work. Too much battery required.

yes ive realized this as a common response to this complaint through my google searches for a solution.

the watch being mine, dont you think battery consumption should be up to me?

if i want the face 'always on' then i should be able to have it 'always on' even @ the expense of battery life.

Not really in this case. Reason being, if there was an option for it to be always on, you'd hear far more griping about the battery only lasting for 5 hours a day (if that) than you do about people not being able to keep the face on all the time. Question is, why have a face on all the time if you're not looking at it?

Is your phone screen on all the time?

I think that once Apple can get the Watch to the point where you could keep it running for at least 8-10 full hours while the screen is on (most likely in a dimmed mode or a basic digital time mode) you will then see them open it up to always on.

Those with the Hermes...do you wear yours everyday!? Do you wear it everyday with the leather strap or the sports band?

As a piece of tech which will ultimately become obsolete I think it would be a shame not too regardless of the price.

My original SS Apple Watch gets covered in cow s*** on a daily basis. Not prepared to do the same to my Hermes strap!

Ha I presume you work on a farm?

What about if you worked in an office?

Dairy farmer.

If I worked in an office, yes, I'd wear my Hermes all day, every day. Although right now I'm doing my accounts so guess I could switch to my Hermes.......
I'm also waiting for my Nike+ watch which I'll use for exercise. (Don't judge me! I've had a very, very hardcore few months at work and needed to treat myself!)

ive had mine for some time now, and i wore it once one evening out.

i finally decided to switch to the Hermès Orange sport band in order to maybe become more active with the activity app etc., and to get used to the watch and its functions(it being my very first AW).

it is also more acceptable for casual daily use.

i feel the leather band is far more formal so i will switch to that for nights out etc.

You must be a really casual person (which strap came with yours, anyway?) because I've worn my fauve leather every day since I opened this watch and I don't ever feel it's too dressy. I might if I was doing yard work and of course it is not suitable for workouts or water activity.

Do you work in a gym or landscaping or something?

Exactly what I was thinking. I wore a watch from elementary school all the way through college, and they always had leather bands. Not as high quality as a Hermes band, of course, but to me, leather bands say everyday wear, and all of the Hermes bands strikes me as appropriate for everyday wear in a school or office setting.

I'll be wearing my Hermes to a friend's formal party on Saturday but as she's a director at Apple, I doubt she'll be that bothered about my brown leather strap clashing with my dinner suit. ;)
