Hi folks, has anyone recently had extra holes punched in your Hermès leather bands in an Hermès store/boutique? If so, where was it?

I called the store nearest to me yesterday (Cologne, Germany) and they claimed that Hermès doesn‘t offer this service anymore because of „concerns for the longevity of the bands“!?
I called Hermes USA and there was not an issue in getting their stores to punch a hole, should i ever need that. Maybe policies are different for Germany. I am new to Hermes and find some of this overwhelming. As an alternative, can you take the band to a leather shop or shoemaker?

Yeah, that was what everyone was reporting until now, and from different countries, too. Did you call recently?

I‘m not sure I ever read a report from a fellow german about getting an extra hole punched … so it might have been this way all along over here. The guy on the phone made it sound like a recent change in policy, though.

That‘s actually the advice I was given. Which was pretty surprising and disappointing.

I'm trying out one of the new Jumping Tour bands as hotter & humid weather approaches. Does anyone else feel that the Jumping bands are scratchy, especially at parts where stitching/glue is? Has anyone experienced this and can say whether it improves over time as the band breaks in a little?

I tend to have sensitive skin and I love the comfort of the leather bands. Wondering if I should keep the jumping or just rotate out the leather more. Thanks in advance.

@Phaiz. Hi. I find the jumping bands very comfortable. However, the only time I find them “scratchy”, is getting the end through the keepers. They are stiff and the pin on the buckle is not easy to get in the hole and harder to remove from the hole. Yet, with the drawbacks, I still find them most comfortable. I don’t think Hermes leather and summer humidity and rain are a good match. If the jumping bands don’t work for you, perhaps you could consider a sport loop or braided sole loop summer?

yes, i had the same impression the first week. It would feel scratchy where the stitching is.

I don‘t know whether it breaks in or if it‘s a change in perception, but it doesn‘t scratch anymore at all

Thanks Purga…my rose Mexico is going to be delivered tomorrow and as I’ve never seen a jumping band I’ve been wondering if it would scratch also…good to know that as it breaks in I might not notice any scratching.

Are you wearing one of the older designs released in 2021? I had the same issue with my noir/bleu saphir jumping tour which made it very uncomfortable while wearing it, but the 2022 bands (those marked as "new" on Apple's website) are significantly softer and do not seem to have that problem. I'm guessing Hermès took in user feedback regarding the scratchiness and updated the bands.

I’m trying one of the new ones, the vert veronese / bleu lin which is a 2022 band. I feel the scratchiness but it’s only day one and it hasn’t broken it at all yet. I think with @Purga comment I’m more confident it could get to be more comfortable over time.

Until I get a 41mm Hermes, my homebrewed faces will have to do

Still confused about Hermes bands.

1) I spoke to Hermes customer Care. They suggested reserving my Hermes leather bands for “going out”, because they are more delicate and using my Jumping Bands as my daily driver. Does that make sense or can the leather bands be used daily?

2) in light of that, am I better to not use the leather bands in NYC hot/humid summer weather?

3) I do a light stationary bike workout for 30 minutes at home. Which band to use for my light exercise. ? Leather? Jumping ? Sport?

4) suggestions for band cleaning?

It’s very simple, just keep the Hermes bands dry. I’m still quarantining for a little while longer so I have the luxury of panicking when I feel heat/moisture starting to build up underneath my Hermes leather and just swapping it out.

A new thought I had the other day for this hypothetical future where I’m out of the house for an event in leather is to maybe take along a pinch-hit band to give the leather a break.

Don’t work out in any leather band I think is a pretty categorical rule. Work out in Jumping if it’s comfortable to have the metal. Don’t worry about the nylon being ruined too much.

@athousandbands thanks. I made a change to the Hermes space black from Apple Silver SS, the Hermes bands are in a different category from the cheaper Apple ones. This is all new to me as I only have the watch for 2 weeks.

I don’t have any jumping bands (single tours are too big for my wrist) so can’t comment on those.

Bands are meant to be worn. I swap mine out often but would never not wear a band that I paid for because what is the point of having it if you aren’t going to enjoy it?

I would definitely not work out in my leather bands because that isn’t what they are intended for, but if I’m going out on a nice summer day and want to wear one of my Hermès bands I’m wearing one. But, this is just me.

I can give you the scenarios I wear my bands and hopefully it may help someone. As always, everyone’s lifestyle is different and may be different.

Sport Band.
Any type of workout whatsoever, including a dog walk. Cooking. Cleaning.

Jumping (if I had one)
For above as well.
Day wear for all other activities around the house (I work from home). When I leave the house if the weather is poor. Not a few light spots of rain, but really poor.

Leather.
Whenever I leave the house if weather isn’t poor. If was say going on a boat though I would wear a Jumping Band for example.

To me the leather is special and I try to wear it as often as I can.

1. Sport band.
Everything you mentioned. Tons of cooking, cleaning, working out and dog walking.

2. Jumping.
Don't own one. My lifestyle right now only can accommodate 1 and 3.

3. Leather.
Whenever I leave the house and it isn't raining. And on Zoom calls, they are awesome for business meetings. Makes me feel just slightly more polished, more professional.

The Jumping bands are incredibly versatile as they are resilient enough for just about anything. While I don’t wear mine during workouts (I prefer a sport band), you certainly could. I also wouldn’t wear my Jumping while working on my car or some other intricate laborious task like that. As for cleaning it, every once in a while I’ll just scrub it lightly with my fingers and a drop of clear dish soap. I also have a gentle small brush if I really want to deep clean it, then let it air dry and it’s good to go.

Bottom line, I’ve worn my Jumping for work and play. They’re incredibly lightweight, comfortable, and perfect for the summer, in my opinion. I can wear a genuine Hermès band and not have to worry about it like my leather bands. It‘s a true all-day, all-season band.
