They've definitely discounted bands very steep before. I don't know how the 90% figure was gotten, but if they discounted one that low, it would have been just a single band or two, maybe an obscure colorway that wasn't selling which they happened to have one or two of left.
90% is from the article, which states that a discount at that level was unusual.

Also, Apple/Hermes has never been afraid to hold onto stock and even have a couple of seasons of bands listed on their site(s). Always at full retail for non employees of course. The big sale on all the bands seems like a red flag 🚩 to me.

Either they’ve changed their inventory management approach or we will never see leather Hermes bands again.

My bet is they’re done with leather.

Apple has extreme carbon neutral goals to meet. Cows are often one the largest CO2 producers so moving away from them will help Apple meet its climate goals. That’s my bet. Now are replacement materials really better (plastics aka crude oil based products that never degrade)? Who knows.

Hermes/Apple better have something really cool or $1,400 for a watch won’t be appealing.

Is the fact that there are no new Hermẽs watch faces with WatchOS 10 indicative of anything? I can’t remember if there were new Hermẽs faces with OS 9.

This whole thing has me a bit uneasy. I wonder, could the nature of the partnership be changing but not going away entirely? What I am thinking is that Apple will cease selling Apple Watch Hermes in Apple stores and on apple.com. But it would still provide Apple Watch Hermes watches, OEM lugs, and custom etched AirTags to Hermes. Hermes would then continue to offer the products from their site and stores exclusively.

This arrangement seems somewhat unlikely. But it would be a way for Apple to say it has stopped selling leather goods and still reap the benefits of the partnership. Apple could say Hermes is in charge of what materials are used on their accessories. Kind of an underhanded way of dealing with it, but it would be on brand for Apple I think.

Zero percent chance of this happening IMO.

My money is on either new Hermès straps made from a high-end leather alternative or the collab ending next tuesday.

I must admit when the Nike faces went on the Betas, I felt something was changing. IMO I am 75% that the collab is coming to an end. Shame as love my S7 Hermes and the straps.

Unfortunately I think Apple is done with leather, and also the Hermes partnership. Shame, because I am a leather aficionado, and I really dislike fake leathers of all types. The Hermes collab was really the best one possible, and made the Apple Watch feel nice enough to have in your collection if you enjoy watches.

I just bought an Hermes double tour noir 45mm and a bambou (at full price of course), not sure what I should do with them. The plan was to buy an Ultra 2.

so it's almost official, Hermès will no longer make straps for Apple? If so, it's even better for Hermès, an ultra-luxury company that makes little sense with Apple. Let's hope that Apple no longer presents leather products, because the quality is definitely insufficient

moreover AirPods cases are only on the Hermès website, therefore the termination of the collaboration is likely. as the last series there were only a few new belts and others presented were already presented years earlier.

If this happens, do you reckon older / existing bands will increase in value?
If the partnership ends, that means no Series 9 Hermes watch. It means no Series 10 Hermes watch and so forth.

None of the new hardware would have Hermes watch faces so you’d be stuck with only having the complete Hermes experience (faces and strap)on a Series 8.

Just the bands without the faces is a half baked experience. I prefer to have the latest tech and would be forced to leave behind Hermes watch faces.

So, the bands will decrease in value.

The Series 8 Hermes watches will become a dinosaur like the 18k gold Series 0. While neat ideas, the tech in them will age and soon not be supported by future wOS versions.

Also from what my friend said who works at apple (hq)

Apple was throwing away (recycling) hundreds and thousands of leather cases, Hermes bands, AirTags etc.

This is so strange to me. Why not offer them at a steep discount to employees instead of trashing them? Or maybe there just wasn't enough interest to churn through the inventory via employee sales?

If the partnership is ending, I'm regretting not upgrading to the S8 last year. Maybe I'll grab one now just in case, and if the collab continues next Tuesday, return it and buy the S9. 🤔

I didn't buy the S8 last year so I'd be stuck with a S7 Hermes...

I tried the Ultra for a couple of months and it was just too big and bulky for me.

I'll probably just skip the Ultra 2 and S9 and see how far the S7 can take me. Battery health was 89% in Oct last year and now 88%.

Apple has replacements for Series 7. Do you still have a warranty?

According to my friend, they are tossing everything and only allowing them to order off the EPP site.

Do you mean battery replacements? I have AC+ but I thought they only replace batteries when the battery health is less than 80%?
Apple doesn't offer battery replacements for the watches. They send you a new watch. If you want a new watch before it hits 80%, you can always pay the $79 incidental fee and they overnight you a new one. ORRRR you can kinda just "embellish" a diff problem lol

This is good to know. I'm predicting I'll have some issues with my S7 in the very near future that will require me to pay that $79 for a new watch. 😆

With there not being much difference between the S7 and S8, this will save me some coin and utilize the AC+ I've been paying for.
