If the partnership ends, that means no Series 9 Hermes watch. It means no Series 10 Hermes watch and so forth.

None of the new hardware would have Hermes watch faces so you’d be stuck with only having the complete Hermes experience (faces and strap)on a Series 8.

Just the bands without the faces is a half baked experience. I prefer to have the latest tech and would be forced to leave behind Hermes watch faces.

So, the bands will decrease in value.

The Series 8 Hermes watches will become a dinosaur like the 18k gold Series 0. While neat ideas, the tech in them will age and soon not be supported by future wOS versions.

Nah, if they discontinue it the value of it will skyrocket. When they discontinued the white ceramic Apple Watch the values went through the roof for a long time. Even now they are expensive for a Series 5 watch.

You are misunderstanding the Hermes appeal. It’s custom watch faces with custom bands. Without the two, it’s an incomplete experience. Hermes buyers want the full experience.

Also, the leather bands absorb sweat and oil like crazy. The appeal of used leather worn directly on the skin of a stranger is meh for many.

Now if you are talking about the Series 8 Hermes watch bodies, those could gain value.

But we’ve already seen Hermes bands go out of production. Unopened bands will sell for $200 above MSRP but that’s it. There has never been a boom of used Hermes bands nor will that change now.

Watch bodies? Maybe. But even your comparison isn’t fair. The ceramic edition was a unique material. Hermes bodies are the same SS you can get from non-Hermes models at half the price.

I think I can tolerate the soon-huge-looking s7 bezels to keep Hermes faces. When do you think the Series 4 will stop getting updates?

Also I’d like to see some data on this mass revulsion around strangers’ skin lol. I’m not sure we all have such a dim view of global cooties m8

Paul Stuart to Coach has been selling leather bands even absent a collaboration with the watch for its faces. I, for one, will buy bands directly from Hermès should they continue to sell them, for my S7.

The incremental upgrades were never attractive, and I think Apple has lost its mojo in terms of yearly refreshes anyway. So the Hermès Edition will still be relevant until there’s a major update which, at this rate, could be a couple years from now.

You mean you’ll put lugs on Hermes bands without Apple’s connectors?

If so, it's even better for Hermès, an ultra-luxury company that makes little sense with Apple.

Well the collab went on a pretty long while without it making sense for Hermès, didn't it.

Let's hope that Apple no longer presents leather products, because the quality is definitely insufficient

Apple turning away from leather is the exact reason for the collab ending (if it ends). So be glad you won't be offended by their "insufficient" products anymore.

Or maybe all Watches get the Hermès faces, just like all Watches got the Nike faces after that collab ended …

Big loss for Hermes Applewatch affectionatas
However Hermes sells other watches and Leatherbands so we the customer are the loser
While all points to the end let’s wait and see

While my gut is with all the takes here that the bands won’t suddenly become super valuable and coveted if discontinued, we should also remember a great preponderance of watch buyers each quarter are still first-timers.

How many people right now have never had an Apple Watch but are the type to go for our beloved bespoke-ish bovine bracelets and are about to get their first W?

I meant the whole package together. The watch itself will retain value for a while simply because of the Hermẽs faces. Even the sport bands sell for more than the regular ones simply because they are Hermēs branded. I'm not saying they are going to massively increase, but they will definitely hold a much higher value if no Series 9 Hermēs models are released.

This would be crazy.

Yep I agree as Hermes own the IP on the faces/name, they wouldn't let them go across all watches, unless the collab with Apple means that the Hermes face is the only 3rd party face allowed? Though I can't see any benefit to Hermes allowing this.

Crazy good, right?

Good for non-Hermes owners like myself, but I didn't want to use that word in my post as it may be disappointing to those who do own Hermes watches. I know the lion's share of the price premium for the Hermes edition(s) are in the bands and packaging, but to me it's still a bit different than the Nike versions since those were the same price as the equivalent cases/connectivity.

We don‘t know the contract between Apple and Hermès. Why let those nice faces go to waste? Apple could pay Hermès to keep using them, too. Anything is possible.

I'd love to have a Hermēs face on my Ultra. Paired with the right band it would look awesome.

Human psychology is a funny thing, isn‘t it? Hermès owners got everything that was advertised and nothing would be taken from them (in the hypothetical case we‘re discussing). And it may still disappoint them that others would get something.

I know the lion's share of the price premium for the Hermes edition(s) are in the bands and packaging,

Indeed (as we can calculate by deducting the price of the straps sold seperately). And don‘t forget the extra year of warranty.

So all in all it‘s a bit different, I agree. But not very.

I always wanted to have a Watch will all faces. Differentiation by software (on identical hardware) always seemed superficial and wrong to me.

Hermes faces on an aluminum watch with mismatched steel lugs would be intolerable for Apple to let into the world. That’s clockology ish

Disagree. Hermès faces would look fine on aluminum Watches (and why wouldn‘t they?). And I don‘t even understand what mismatched lugs have to do with this. Since S0 people wear all sorts of garish third-party bands on their Watches and there‘s nothing Apple ever could (or should) do about it. Clockology is about garish faces, so I don‘t understand this analogy, either.

Edit: please understand that I think the probability of all Watches getting the Hermès faces is really, really low. I just think it would be kinda nice.

That’s what I’m saying, I don’t want apple putting more garishness into the world. It’s troubling enough silver lugs on a black watch became state-approved 😚

And specifically I mean Clockology’s lovely collection of unofficial faces for Hermes and Swiss brands. If the fake Hermes faces I’ve seen in photos are not Clockology…someone can apologize on my behalf haha

If this happens, I may get a pink aluminium S9, put a lovely green Hermès Bambou face on it, and wear it with a Spring Yellow Classic Buckle band (with shiny silver lugs, of course). It will be so garish, some people will call it chic. 😂

(And after taking a picture just for this thread, I will send the Watch back to Apple, of course.)

LOL yes, I do not want cooties. That $50 band someone posted a few weeks ago gave me the shivers as to how dirty it looked.

Apple will sell you a black Hermes watch with a leather band with silver lugs and vice versa. They couldn’t care less as long as you pay them.
