No leather bands?! New woven and knit Hermès…. Hmmm….

New Hermès face though.

Maybe leather Hermès bands you’ll have to get directly from Hermès only.

It would be good as not having leather bands clearly reduces the appeal of the Hermès version (although some people will be fine with it). But honestly I doubt so - for PR reasons, Apple can’t accept leather bands from an official partner with whom they are selling a co-branded product while claiming they are not using leather anymore (even if those bands aren’t sold at Apple Stores).

Is there a Series 9 watch or are there just new bands? They never mentioned a Hermes watch.

Let’s be honest, Apple only cares about THEIR environmental report card at the end of the day. If a partner sells a leather band in THEIR store, it won’t count against Apple’s report card and they wont care IMO.

But will Hermes still do leather bands directly on their store?

That may be true—and Hermès did sell a lot of Apple accessories that Apple never offered at its retail.

Problem is they have a co-branding agreement. If their co-branding partner is manufacturing leather products for Apple devices, Apple knows that they will run into issues with the activist groups and activist investors they are trying to appeal to with this change (being accused of using partnerships as a way to breach their no-leather commitment). So I suspect as a condition to continue the agreement they probably requested that Hermès stops making leather accessories for Apple devices.

So now we know why Apple was internally dumping Hermès bands at 90% off. I would imagine leather bands will still be available directly from Hermès (maybe not new ones), similar to how we occasionally see older bands appear on their website from time to time. If they’re going to make and sell AirTag and AirPods leather cases from their own stores, then I’m sure leather bands will live on.

Tough justifying the Hermes premium for a non-leather band though. As much as I love the Jumping Tours, the fact they're only $20 cheaper than the leather bands always boggled my mind. Keeping my Hermes S8, but getting an Ultra 2 this year.

Will you still be able to buy an Apple Watch 8 in Hermes after the 9 is out? Will it be at a reduced price? I love the Hermes watch faces but the price difference is 😬

Couture pricing is a sprinkle of “time spent being made” and a whole lot of “the high price is its own feature.”

At least from what I read in a book Hermes is the one high fashion company that’s not totally sold out. Apple bands still made in their suburban atelier I think.
