LOS ANGELES BABY!!
Hello, again, gang. Most of my story was told over on the Edition thread, but they got a bit cross when I started talking about Nike Sports and Hermès watches.

Let’s recap, first.

I bought the Ébène Barenia Deployment Hermès, but didn’t like the colour. So then I bought the Grey Ceramic Edition, which initially I loved, and then realised it just looks like a piece of cheap grey plastic with a nasty plastic strap. So I bought the Éperon d’Or Hermès, but I wasn’t in love with the strap, which I thought I should be at that price. So I bought the Feu Epsom strap, which I did like, but I wasn’t sold on the quality (there was an asymmetry) and I couldn’t sell the Éperon d’Or strap at a reasonable price, so the whole thing seemed too expensive.

I then made a wholly unpredictable move to the Nike Sports, as I liked the watchfaces and it was so much cheaper. Plus I felt the display is actually better with Ion X than with Sapphire.

And that’s where I left you all.

Well, I still like the Nike watchfaces and the lovely Ion X screen, but the black Sports strap and aluminium body just make the whole thing seem, well, cheap. And not special in any way.

So I thought maybe the black leather loop would jazz it up a bit. But there’s no supply for 5-7 weeks! The only other option was the black stainless steel link. So I ordered that. Now, it does go reasonably well with the space grey aluminium body. They don’t clash. But you kinda know it’s wrong because you know it’s aluminium with steel. And the blacks are both kinda purple.

Now, pretty much anything I type into the search field of my Safari browser takes me to the Apple Watch store, because Apple gets me. So back I went. I really, really wanted one of the Hermès deployment straps but I just can’t get past the colour. Which left only one option: the Indigo Swift.

Which arrived this morning. It’s nearly black. The leather is thicker than the others and noticeably softer. I’m not wild about the colour, or the quality — there really is no pleasing me. But I’ve got to the point now where I just don’t care any more. You see, I’ve always loved the Hermès Sports strap — I think it looks amazing with the stainless steel. And . . . well, I’ve got the Feu Epsom arriving tomorrow, again. It’s my favourite of the leather straps. Asymmetry be damned!

Our dear friend @mhoutman may make me an offer for the Indigo Swift, but if not, well, I’ll just have it as a spare. Or for more formal occasions, when Feu is just not the right statement to make.

Because I’ve decided that more important than cost to me is having a combination I like and that feels special and quality. There is — to me, at least — no perfect combination. If they’d made the deployment in black, or orange, I’d probably have been happy on Day 1. But they don’t.

I’m fine with the stainless steel body. I’ve always loved the Hermès sports strap. I’m a bit of a sucker for the lovely boxes. And the Indigo Swift strap is certainly immensely soft and not unpleasant to look at. I’ll no doubt switch it in from time to time. But I think the Feu Epsom will be my daily driver.

The End.

(Or is it . . . )

Hi

I'm just kind of curious how many times have you purchased the Hermes addition only to return it?

There was the official Hermes black band single tour for sale recently on eBay. That band just been discontinued but you might want to see if that auction is still active.

This is my third. And I’m sticking with it!

Along with the great straps, I am rather amazed how much I like the Hermes watch face.

I’m interested to know which combination other Hermès owners go with.

I’m currently on this one:

Nice! I alternate between Carrick in orange for fun and Espace in white for business. Fun options to have!

Very same here, tried with red hands but for visibility white is better:)
[doublepost=1513875057][/doublepost]Today I got a new Indigo Swift strap I could buy from a kind forum member. Color is almost black which I like a lot. Leather seems a little bit thicker as the Barenia, seen here as comparison :)

I have both the indigo swift and Fauve Barenia too and yes the indigo swift is slightly thicker and more durable. It’s doesn’t darken when exposed to water (but it’s already quite dark) but still feels and smells amazing.

And last night, I managed to bang my watch against a bench top and now there’s a deep scratch on the SS

I tried buffing it out with a cape cod cloth but it’s still there. So devestated

Does AppleCare + not cover you for this kind of accidental damage?

Does it - I’m really not sure? I have it it says “two incidents of accidental damage from handling” but doesn’t specify what kind of damage. I always thought it was for the sapphire class being chipped or shattered.

Have you tried claiming something like this through AC+?

Don't claim it as accidental damage. Try a claim on functionality of the watch. Keep it and wait for the first sign of anything weird... lag, calls not going through, dropped calls, bluetooth not staying paired... anything... once you see it, call and ask for Express Replacement. :D

AC+ costs a ton on the Hermes. Might as well use it. There's no fee for replacement if the watch is somehow not working as expected, but there is one for damage. If you return it because it's not working properly, they won't ding you for a scratch on the watch. I mean, if you sent one in with a busted screen or a much larger hunk of metal gone, that might raise eyebrows, but that gouge, though deep, is small. I seriously doubt they'd ask you for money if you had a performance complaint with the watch itself. Meanwhile, ask a jeweler to buff it out a little so it doesn't drive you nuts.

I think it doesn’t really matter what the problem is. My impression is that they won’t test anything (when you claim one of your accidental damages) but will send you a replacement instead (without further analysis).

@Boardiesboi anu update on this ?

I've been trying to polish it out with a cape cod cloth daily. It's disappearing very slowly and is still visible. But it's less prominent than before. I'm just going try and live with it for the time being. I don't wanna claim damage yet as I've only had it for 3 months...

Do you mean making the claim online? Or physically at an Apple Store?

I just wonder, if you claim the watch under Applecare+ will you get a new one or 'refurbished'

They’re not going to send a brand new one in a retail box. They’ll send a white box unit. So, it could be new or it could be a refurb, but the externals will be new and the internals will have passed a rigorous QA process.

Sorry if this has been answered definitively, but I've spent the last half hour searching and couldn't see that it has:

How do I get a S/M Hermés orange sport band? I just got my 42mm Marine Gala Leather Single Tour Éperon d’Or and was (very!) surprised to find only the M/L sport band. It's too big for me. I just got off the phone with Apple support who barely understood what I was asking, sadly. They suggested I call sales support tomorrow.

One of the main reasons I got the Hermés was for the sport band (crazy as that may sound) and it's super disappointing that I can't wear it. You'd think that for the costs involved (on both sides) they'd simply have a supply of the S/M piece that they could send out on request. Hoping to find this is the case, but it's not looking good.

You can’t.

The Hermès orange sports band is M/L for the 42mm watch and S/M for the 38mm watch.

If your wrist fits the smallest hole of the leather tour it should fit the smallest hole of the M/L.

I had to ask Hermès to punch an additional hole in my 42mm leather band but my wrist fits the smallest hole of the M/L sports band

Thanks. It does fit, barely, with the smallest hole. Just worried about what'll happen when I lose a little weight when those New Year's resolutions kick in.

Still very surprised this isn't handled better for the higher-end Hermés watch package when it's done right with the $69 separate bands.
