In the end, one really has to look at this watch as a tech investment, and not a luxury watch investment. I’ve never gone into an Hermès watch purchase looking at it to retain its value. I go into it asking if I will get my value out of it in the time I retain ownership. These watches are not like my collection of Hermès Constance Belts, or H Belts, or bags, or, well, you get the idea, where those can go up in value over time, as many of them are hard to obtain. The Constance Belt is described as one of the most difficult belts in the world to find, and then trying to find it in certain leathers just makes it even rarer. The same cannot be said for the Hermès Apple Watch, where many thousands of them are mass produced. The special Hermès watch bands, such as the more limited edition Rallye Indigo/Rouge retain their value more, due to their rarity. This is not to discount the more widely available Hermès Apple Watch varieties. Each of those still contains hand cut, hand stitched, high quality bands, but they do not possess the special rarity most Hermès products have inherent. For example, additional straps for the Constance Belt are hand made, and the multiple varieties of colors, leathers, and sizes are produced at random, and for only a limited time. So, if one wants a certain color, in a certain leather, in a certain size, it’s like hitting the lottery should one locate that combination. The same is not for the Apple Watch. There are set leathers, colors, sizes for each season, and they are significantly easier to locate.

The point of my post is to highlight that one should buy the Hermès watch because one believes they will get their value out of it in their time of ownership, not because they believe it will sell for a certain price when they wish to divest themselves of it.

That said, I have typically, each year, been able to sell my Hermès Apple Watch for around $500. I’m ok with that, because I feel I have gotten enough enjoyment out of the product to feel my purchase of the depreciation was worth it. I hope this helps others trying to justify purchasing one of these watches. They are definitely worth the money, and they are special to own. I have never regretted the purchase of a single one, and I have owned every series.

This is a great post. Especially your final point, the question is do you feel the depreciation in your resale price is worth it? In the end, if you keep the leather band and sell the watch for $500 you haven't lost that much because you've retained a leather band that fetches between $339-$539 retail (if it's new). It all depends on what we feel the term "value" represents with these watches.

I am seriously loving my S4 with the Ebene band and deployante buckle. Haven’t had any issues with fit or discomfort from the band. Guess I’m lucky/right-sized for it. I swap to a sport band for workouts and am pleasantly surprised that the deployment is easy to remove from the watch.

And the S4....egads. Anyone who doesn’t think it a massive upgrade from prior series - for the screen size alone - is nuts IMO.

I get the high cost (even for non Hermes versions) but....to me it’s like the iPhone X after a decade of phones with bezels.

I think the deployment buckle is more comfortable than the single tour or the other bands.

Anyone else notice that both models of the indigo and indigo craie are sold out?

Interesting; I wonder if they just ran out of bands. The bands alone are also no longer available, along with the two deployment Barenia buckles.

The Hermes site also no longer has those Indigo watches/bands available, although the deployment buckles are still for sale. It's also possible they are phasing out those colors.

Would be a interesting move if they phased them out so early in the series 4 life. Could be that the Hermès models are selling more since there is no edition model?

Definitely seems like that could be a possibility; plus, with the standard 44 mm stainless models being much harder to find, I think some people are turning to Hermes when they might otherwise not.

The Indigo has also been available for the S3, I think, so it's been around for a while.

It’s only Day 2, and I have been babying my watch and strap, but the threading on my double tour looks like it is slightly fraying almost across the entire length of the stitching. Is this normal?
U3odV86.jpg

I went back to the Apple Store and an Hermès store and the few double tour straps I looked at, even new ones like the Indigo/Craie/Orange, have slight fraying like this.

For those who don’t notice any fraying - look closer against a white background. It is easily photographable with an iPhone at 2x zoom. Perhaps it is quite minute to most people and I’m not sure if I’m nitpicking but I have a Gucci wallet that has been used for three years and the threads are not like this.

It’s literally been on sale for just over a week.

They probably just ran out of the initial stock and are replenishing as fast as they can be made? They are hand cut and stitched in France.

Hermes edition has been extremely popular. Hermes website is updated daily. Went to Hermes boutique her in Los Angeles and salesperson said watch and bands haven been selling as fast as they can get them in. It’s supply and demand, and with it being about 10 days since release the demand is outpacing the supply.

Can someone chime in and let me know if the two-tone faces are available on the Indigo watch or just the wacky ones? Not sold on those bands but the face is fun.

Didn’t know the regular SS was harder to find. More demand or lower production I wonder?

Lots of the Hermès models and individual bands are sold out. It looks like it is a smashing success. Perhaps it is selling well because there is no more Edition.

Long time no see :)

Last year I bought both an AW Hermès Series 3 and AW black ceramic Series 3.

I decided to upgrade to the Hermès Series 4 and give the AW Hermès Series 3 to my eldest.

I still wear the band of my Original AW Hermès on my AW Hermès Series 3, which I bought with a deployment buckle. The Series 3 buckle has one big advantage as you can NOT switch bands.

When ordering the AW Hermès Series 4 I got the information that with the latest version of the deployment buckle it is possible to change straps.

Can somebody confirm above info ?

@Promatt good to see you are alive and kicking. Still wear your Indigo Swift strap and I eventually bought the Feu Epsom too :)

Can someone please post detailed pictures of their 42mm (old generation) fauvre barenia band?
I'm looking to buy an opened box new band from a seller and I want to make sure I know how to determine if its genuine.

Sorry don't understand what you mean about switching bands? Do you mean remove it from your watch and use something else like a sport band? You've always been able to do that.

Or do you mean move the deployment buckle - and only the deployment buckle - and put it on another Hermes leather band? You cannot do this to my knowledge.
