I think you may have nailed it.

Universal Copy and Paste is one feature coming to Sierra that will absolutely require wi-fi, so that may well be the deciding factor.

Mac Pro 2009 works with Sierra MAC OS - its already up and running in Beta. So do not worry!

The Twitter link isn't working for me, but a 4,1 upgraded to 5,1 firmware will still identify as a 2009 Mac Pro in the main System Info overview unless the user has done some additional editing behind the scenes. The firmware revision is the number that matters.

Ahhh, OK - well, still, good news for you 4,1 owners if you flash to 5,1. I have a 3,1 :(. I just want to cry.

4,1 and 5,1 share same board-id.

but apple exluded name MacPro4,1 from supported list.

firmware update will save you guys

Meanwhile Macpro3,1 users will have to use this howto - https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/os-x-yosemite-on-unsupported-macs-guide.1761432/
[doublepost=1465861392][/doublepost]Installing atm using that method on mp3,1, 13 mns left

Using flashed gtx980, so had to use nv_disable=1 boot arg, efi driver is in use.

OK - I have the preview downloaded. I will use that method as well. Hopefully NVIDIA release drivers for this shortly!

Have you got a link handy for me to download OSX Extractor? The normal site is down during WWDC and I can't find a link.

I still think this

Looks like all Mac that has optional Wi-Fi is now dropped. The 09 iMac ship with Wi-Fi, but the 09 Mac Pro is optional for that.

is the most likely reason why 4,1 is not officially supported and 5,1 is.

WiFi is essential to improved Continuity features and Universal Copy & Paste across devices. Seems like a (semi-) legitimate reason to drop support for non-WiFi devices, considering Sierra's strong emphasis on these features and functionality.

I keep getting the "this version can't be installed on this computer" message and I have a 4.1 so what is being done differently!

You need the 5,1 firmware
[doublepost=1465862557][/doublepost]
Do you have the official Apple WiFi card installed?

I guess that's the reason how they decide the list, but they won't really perform a check if Wi-Fi avail on the Mac, just in case someone's Mac has a broken WiFi but actually on this list.

ahhh I thought so, but no one confirmed either way. I don't have a wi-fi card installed nor the firmware update. Doing the 5.1 now. will update once successful. Thanks

was it native or with the workaround?

Hello, it's being so for past 9 years

For 4,1, you have three chooses:
1) follow path of 3,1 macpro
2) copy installed image from another mac
3) upgrade firmware to 5,1 and enjoy

3,1 has only 1) and 2)

everything works, continue the party.

Awesome, as always, Netkas. Thanks for the report!
