The Verge and Wires reviews sure make it sound like it is not worth upgrading from the 2018 11 or 12.9 pro’s. Unless you are changing sizes. Guess it will save a lot of people some money.

Apple needs to do a lot better next upgrade cycle. Time to change the looks of it too. Been status quo for too long now.

I own the 2018 11” IPP and I’m not upgrading. My 11” is still going strong and I don’t have a need to upgrade as the new models don’t really have a feature I truly need. Thus, money left in my pocket.

Not me. My 2018 11" is already overkill for my needs.

My thoughts exactly. My 11” will serve me well for quite some time.

Back in the Fall of 2017, I had a perfectly good 9.7 inch iPad Pro with the Logitech “Create” backlit keyboard case...fantastic combo. I sold it after only using it for 1 1/2 yrs and bought the 10.5 pro and apples keyboard case (Fall of 2017). I wish I’d skipped the 10.5 and held out for the 11 inch model a year later.

You’re in a great position now. Are you planning to upgrade to the 2020 IPP, or sit it out another yr?

For me, it’s time to upgrade so I’m going for the 2020 Pro 11. It looks like it really has everything I would want in a iPad and the 11-inch size is perfect for my needs. Going from the A9X in my 9.7 to the new A12X will be a significant upgrade, especially for photo and video editing. My iPads are used every day, all day, and very often outside for hours at a time in 90-degree heat while I’m testing boats here in south Florida. With the hot sun and saltwater environment for many hours per week, I’d have to say that the iPad is a very durable device. :). I’ve not had any issues with my iPad Pro 9.7 and even though I never used a screen protector, doesn’t have a single scratch on the glass. I can’t say the same for the aluminum frame though ;). I even still use my old iPad 3 which mostly stays in its dock (remember those?) on my desk. Even the battery on that old iPad is still excellent.

My only wish is that Apple would bring back optical image stabilization for the iPad Pro cameras. Only the 10.5-inch model had that. I know a lot of people think it’s not cool to shoot photos and video with a tablet (for whatever reason) but I use mine a lot of that, especially since editing photos and videos is so much easier on the iPad with its large screen and the Apple Pencil.

I‘ll continue to use my 9.7 at home but I’m really looking forward to the new model for my work.

I actually plan on buying the 2018 12.9” iPad Pro since it’s compatible with the New Magic Keyboard. The 2020 is hardly an upgrade and I’ll save $. The 2018 iPad Pro is also slightly lighter.

Bought a 2018 11” 256GB WiFi model just back in September. It’s still feeling really new. I’m not enough of a power user to notice the potential ram upgrade. I don’t feel many of the changes will really make a difference to me.

I have an order placed for the 2020 11” base model with Amazon, but delayed delivery times have got me reconsidering grabbing a better deal on a “lightly used w/ AppleCare” 2018 256GB model on eBay.

I had a mint one lined up for $600 w/ 14 months AC and the Smart Keyboard last night before I placed my order. I think if an equivalent deal pops up again I’m gonna grab it.

The nerfed not-quite-iPhone-quality camera of the 2020 model annoys me. And while the extra RAM and better mics are nice quality of life improvements, something about 128GB irks me, too, despite my best storage management intentions, as does waiting several weeks for the Magic Keyboard to be released (not to mention the added $300 outlay...)

That would have been a sweet deal!. A 2018 256gb 11 inch pro at a good price would be tempting given that the 2020’s were such a minor spec bump. The lowest price I’m seeing on a “new” 2018 256gb is $699...and then there’s the $679 refurbished deal at Apple. Not bad prices... tempting! But with the 2020 base model at $750....and if you could squeeze by with 128gb....not really a lot of price difference. I’d probably opt for The 2020 and its 6gb of Ram, mics, faster WiFi, etc...unless you found another deal like you described!

Yeah, that deal was hard to walk away from and I do have regrets... But I suspect there will be more to be had in the next week or two.

I just have a serious mental block about that 128GB model. I don’t enjoy managing storage and I haven’t really come around to the cloud yet. I think I also might feel some incredibly misplaced shame about buying the “base model”. (No small feat to be able to muster that kind of pettiness while the world falls apart around me!)

I have a iPad Pro 10.5 from 2017. Not upgrading yet. Still works fine. Maybe if they introduce mini-LED

I decided to go for the 2018 one as well today. Micro Center (Atlanta) has the 2018 11 inch 256gb model for $699. After thinking it through, I grabbed one today. For me, the 6gb ram is the only thing I’m missing. I’ve got my iPhone 11 always with me...so the camera’s aren’t really important. The studio mic’s I’m sure are nicer, but I‘m always using my airpods anyway. LiDAR looks cool...but not sure I’d have any real use for it. I think I’m good with the 2018 at a deal.

I have an issue buying new things... so I’m getting ready to sell my 2018 WiFi 256gb one. Gonna be tough during this current virus situation though

just upgraded from the 2017 12.9 pro to the 2020 version seems a nice upgrade for us

i've been waiting 6+ months for an upgrade will i be annoyed if they do another upgrade november probably

if covid 19 is still spreading across the world then i doubt there will be many new products launched this year by anyone

I upgraded from the 11inch to the 12.9. Wanted a bigger screen. That’s the only reason I did it. In real use world I do not experience any differences between the two, except screen size. On another note really like the extra real estate.

12.9 iPad Pro 3rd gen (2018) user here. I will not be upgrading. No reason to. I don't even use the iPad Pro back camera. It's an excellent device and I intend to use it for many years to come.

However, I feel like most folks will agree with me on the following: I will absolutely be purchasing the new Magic Keyboard Case for iPad Pro Gen 3 + 4. That thing looks amazing. Price could be better though. $350 is ridiculous.

Sameeeeee. I always complain about price and then end up buying it anyway and loving the hell out of it. And this keyboard isn’t just a plain Jane keyboard. This will change how I use my iPad in a BIG way on a day to day basis. $300? Yeah but worth it

I’m keeping my 2018 (purchased in February of ’19) 12.9”. It’s one of those Apple devices that still feels new and even more up to date than my iPhone 11 Pro Max, especially now with the updated iPadOS. It’s like a brand new computer. I’m definitely going to get the new Magic Keyboard / trackpad folio. I recently upgraded to a Magic Trackpad 2, so I’m now almost exclusively using the iPad Pro for my everyday work, even as sit at my desk with an iMac next to me. I actually prefer using the iPad, especially now that I don’t have to always use it in touch mode.

Like a lot of other people, I’m interested in seeing what the next upgrade brings. Not sure I will actually need to get an iPad Pro with even better performance, but will consider it if it offers one thing I would like to see, which is better battery life.

Which would you guys pick though - 2018 256GB or 2020 128GB?
I can tolerate 128GB and there are options for storage (albeit not as convenient) especially now with USB-C. Meanwhile, RAM is fixed so I'd go for 2020.

What ever is cheaper. I am not seeing any difference in performance with my 2018 Pro 11 and the 2020 12.9 I purchased. Probably going to return it and just wait for the next upgrade cycle....

I don’t think you could go too wrong with either one. My Amazon delivery date got bumped up to March 31st so I think I’m gonna just stick with the 128GB 11” I ordered and ride this wave of pointless AR optimism. ;)

I was initially approaching this purchase like it needed to be a long-term placeholder for my MBP15 (which is currently trapped in another city) so it was easy to keep upselling myself on storage, screen size, etc. But then I realized I have no intention of retiring my laptop, so I just need a solid tablet to edit photos with and fool around with some music apps for the next month or two. 128GB should be plenty for that, and the horsepower I’m certain will be overkill.

Which would you guys pick though - 2018 256GB or 2020 128GB?

If you can tolerate the idea of buying used, I’ve seen a few mint 2018 256GB 11” models go for $500ish in the past few days—at least one of them had over a year left of AppleCare+. That is absolutely what I would do if I didn’t already have the 2020 11” on the way.

For me the price of the 2018 refurb ($679) was just a little too close to the discounted 2020 ($749) and I figured maybe the late model would stay relevant a bit longer. But definitely go 2018 if you have a history of using up 256GB of data on other devices. 😎
