I usually get the itch around June when I start beta testing the next iOS.... A couple of years ago I got the itch and picked up the Note 7 (before the whole battery fiasco) Anyway even though it was a great phone, I could not stand Android unfortunately... it was just too messy and disorganized for me... and I couldnt get a decent messaging app, also lost out on alot without iMessage..... long story short I am locked in to Apple and iOS so I have to wait until september no matter how great the itch gets.

Definitely no itch, next year’s version of iPhone X will be made less expensive and will not be as “premium” as the phone in my hand now. Apple will cut corners to bring down the price with less than premium parts.

Rumors Apple will be removing the OLED on the regular size phones and if they do, that’s not for me.

If Apple does remove OLED screens I will be moving to android with one that does, I can’t go back to LCD-TFT anymore.

This X display is so gorgeous with deep blacks, and true to life color calibration. It sounds like X plus will be only OLED and anything bigger than my X will be too much phone for a guys pocket.

I’m sure the notch will be smaller but it will be another year before it’s completely gone. I’ll wait until then when the upgrade will be worthy.

I do get the itch from time to time, but fortunately I can just swap my SIM from my X to the S8. However, in the past I have usually started to get the itch once a new Galaxy device is released. I've had the X since release day and honestly the S9 does not interest me. Considering I paid $999 for the device, I'm probably going to keep my X another year (I generally upgrade each year).

The one thing I'm really getting the itch for is beta testing iOS 12. Even though I know that's a few months away.

My days of wanting to upgrade are over. iPhone's IMO don't change enough even after 2 years to warrant an upgrade at this point. I do want to move on from my iPhone X because I don't think this version of Face ID is good. Otherwise I'd happily keep it and use it till the phone itself never worked.

Why do people keep on saying on every thread that the X is the "best phone they've ever used"?
Every new iPhone has been better than the previous model since the iPhone 1.
Seems like a weird comment to me - stating the obvious

No iPhone has ever had OLED. Ever since the 6, upgrades have been "meh." The iPhone X changed that, hence being the best iPhone I have ever owned.

I do have the itch to upgrade to iOS 12 though.

I have an 8 Plus - would be interested in the new plus this year... Hope the notch is gone and those ears are fugly and awkward.

The notch is unlikely leaving in just under one year for 2018 iPhone X. That’s generally not how hardware updates are drastically changed in just over a year, especially given this is a new form factor for the iPhone X. The notch will eventually dissipate and/or until Apple figures out a different solution. If you look at Apple timeline of their iPhones, any hardware changes are very incremental and not completely overhauled on an annual basis.

Not really interested in new devices, just want software enhancements. I don't plan to change my daily driver this year. Waiting a year or two until software is taken seriously again. Then I'll jump back into hardware.

I think iOS 12 will be a turning point to see how Apple continues to build from how iOS 11 wasn’t necessarily well recepted. All together, I Think those improvements are coming, but we will find out soon enough during WWDC 2018.

I am getting an iPad itch. My Air 2 has been a great friend but I want one with Face ID and a Notch already.

I must say that this is the best phone I have ever used and here is why. The screen size was just so small, Grant it I came from a 4 to 5C to an se to my glorious beautiful X. My sisters always have LGs and I always thought their screens were incredible. Now my iphone X side by side with theirs my screen is actually just like theirs with the benefit of ios.

I have zero interest in a different phone and throw away what I have paid on so far. I want to pay it off completely before ever moving on because I don't want to give back this phone to anyone. I still have my se and even my 5C too.

Saw amazon has the new Essential phone selling for $350, thinking about it as a spare phone/temporary itch scratcher until this fall lol

Fair to assume anyone who bought a brand new phone from the latest range within the past 6 months can sort of also qualify. Similar idea. Just because the op was a bit closed box does not mean 8 plus owner cannot respond.

If everyone thought like you, nothing would get done.
So silly of me to think that the OP was asking X owners specifically since it was right in the thread title. I guess your powers of reading between the lines are better than mine. My sincerest apologies.

I started with the gen 1 iPhones and i got into an odd rhythm of 1,3,5,7 then went to X. I LOVE my X i'll see what the X+ has to offer but if its the same just bigger i'll pass and stick to the X. Just because its the newest model doesn't mean i want it. Something has to really catch my eye to want to change it. Just my .02

ProMotion would be the only hardware improvement I would care about. It’s all about the software now, it always has been really. The processors are already fast enough and the screens are good enough. They just need to focus on their software to keep me from moving to my Pixel full time because it has been lacklustre for the longest time for me. If iOS 12 is just as junk as 11 has been then I’m gone.

That’s generally how I look at smart phones today, especially given the rising cost. I look to see which model appeals to me and what would entice me with certain features that would compel me to upgrade. Most smart phones all really do the same thing, just certain features are exclusive to other models. It’s just a matter which features actually are “Worth” the upgrade.

I am for the bigger 6.5 model as I’ve found I’m watching more on my phone these days

Apple will not be removing oled

Only the 6.1 won’t have an oled display

I am, but probably not in the way most of you are getting it. I am seriously considering downsizing to a 4” iPhone if the rumored SE refresh actually materializes in May (looking more and more likely). I’m really just over the big screen phone idea and want to return something that is truly useable with 1 hand. Yes, I can use things like Reachability and the 1 handed keyboard in iOS 11 to make it easier to use the phone with 1 hand. But that keyboard doesn’t shift other UI elements like the send button in Messages and other actions like accessing control center are quite awkward. I often find myself stretching to reach the far side of the screen with my thumb or sliding the phone slightly in my hand to reach something, which has led to several near misses where I almost dropped it. I’m yearning more and more for a return to a more ergonomic device, even if that means sacrificing screen real estate.

All that being said, it will depend on what Apple upgrades in the SE. If they leave the screen quality untouched, that would probably be a dealbreaker. The 326 ppi resolution is honestly ok. But I don’t think I could go from OLED all the way back to an LCD with an 800:1 contrast ratio. I’m hoping Apple opts to upgrade the screen to the one from the iPhone 7, 1400:1 contrast ratio and wider color range. That would be just fine for me. Beyond that, if Apple upgrades the camera to match iPhone 7 (hoping for OIS too) and the processor to A10, I'd probably be sold. Phone cameras and processors have been at the point where they are more than good enough for everything I use my phone for. If Touch ID 2 and the rumored wireless charging support materialize, that would just be icing on the cake.

I have two iPhone X's and am very pleased with the performance. At the same time, I am keeping an eye on what Apple offers in September. If I like what I see and I think it is worth the upgrade, I will upgrade at least one of the phones.

I have an iPhone X and I intend to use it for the next 4-5 years :) The iPhone X is so far the best iPhone I have ever owned. Much better battery life than my iPhone 5. The X do also have all the features I need at the moment, except maybe touch id in addition to face id.

I usually buy a new iPhone every 4-5 year, even if there might be a better iPhone released. There are other things to spend money on that a phone, like for example a new Mac or other computer.

Since phones are only as good as the parts used in them, what do you do to get about 5 years of life out of one? Just replace the battery and parts every so often when they break?

I couldn't use a phone for that long. Most I can go is about a year these days. Prices are too high and I rather just find one model I like to use for about 2-3 years instead and make the upgrades actually worthwhile.

My personal favorite form factor is the iPhone X, but I do not think it is worth $1000. Most I would pay for the current X is $600 at best.

I am anticipating some alright upgrades that make it worth getting the X or LCD model over my current 8+. If I can get the X w/ 4gb RAM, better cameras, faster FaceID w/o a swipe up requirement, I could just move on from the 8+.

To get the 2017 X, it depends on how much it is for sale and what I can get as a trade in offer for the 8+. I am hoping an even swap with a 2 year contract for ditching the 8+ where I don't pay anything out of pocket. I could use the X for 2-3 years in its current facet.

It's better to get a 2 year 'free' phone via trade in than paying $700 for the 2018 X.

I never got the itch. I bought an iPhone 8.

I wanted other people to beta test the iPhone X for me first. It's nice to have willing minions to do your bidding.

Even though some like to read others opinions about what their thoughts are with a new device like the iPhone X, that’s not really what “beta testing” means. The iPhone X is far past that point and it’s likely successful in its own right amongst a small world of members on a tech site who express their own thoughts.
