I was using my 6 (128) for the past 4 years. It was replaced with a brand new one when its battery failed about a year ago thanks to Apple Care+. In all fairness, I had no real reason to upgrade my 6 because it just works fine and satisfies my needs. Also 6 (or 7 or 8) is the ideal size for me because I carry my phones in the front pocket of my pants and as a result plus size phones are not for me.

I was simply curious to try out the X. At first I was almost unsure whether it was a worthwhile upgrade or not however after a week or so I started to appreciate the differences.

The most welcome feature for me was the Face ID. I always have problems with Touch ID on all my iOS devices. At first they all work fine but within a week or so false readings increase to the point of forcing me to re scan my fingers again. It is dysfunctional enough to disable the Touch ID while at home and grudgingly turn it on only when I travel. Face ID on the other hand is totally transparent and nearly error free. Most people speak negatively about Face ID, probably without even trying.

Other features like the edge to edge oled display, wireless charging, not having a home button, new gestures and a much improved battery life was enough to convince me that the upgrade was indeed worthwhile.

Since I kept my 6 for 4 years, I will have no problem keeping the X for at least just as long if not longer.

Even though some like to read others opinions about what their thoughts are with a new device like the iPhone X, that’s not really what “beta testing” means. The iPhone X is far past that point and it’s likely successful in its own right amongst a small world of members on a tech site who express their own thoughts.

The first issue of a new model IS a beta test, as far as I'm concerned. I've been burned enough in the past. Let's just say Apple's track record for quality lately hasn't exactly been solid.

It's also the reason I generally skip models that introduce new features. I'll wait for the next rev which has the issues [hopefully] worked out.

Not new iPhone itch, but have ordred p20 pro. I have had All iPhones since the fist, and more i want to try Android. Still keeping my x, if Huawei dont Work

There is NO WAY I would ever use Android, but I have backed Purism's smartphone, the Librem 5 (https://puri.sm). I already own one of their laptops (it's awesome!) so if the phone makes it, I'll be running a Linux phone, a Linux laptop, and using my Apple products as doorstops. Of course, Windows-based anything isn't an option for me. AFAIC, they don't even meet the quality bar for a doorstop.

Definitely no itch, next year’s version of iPhone X will be made less expensive and will not be as “premium” as the phone in my hand now. Apple will cut corners to bring down the price with less than premium parts.

This is a totally asinine statement.

The next iteration of the X will be better than the phone in your hand now, and probably $100 less too. Most of all though, I think you already know that, but keep telling yourself whatever you need to in order to justify your purchase I guess.

Not me - X is great and I can see no reason to replace quickly

I’m Willing to believe the majority who have the iPhone X, likely won’t upgrade just for the sake of upgrading to the newest iPhone X in 2018, unless it was drastically different, that might be a different scenario. But physically, than 2018 iPhone X will likely be very much the same hardware related externally.

I’m not for several reasons. The first and most important of which is that a absolutely love my iPhone X still, it’s the perfect size, it’s stupid fast, Face ID is amazing now that I’m fully used to it. I don’t think I’ll upgrade anytime soon, no need. Course I said that about my 7 plus so we’ll see.

The other reasons are that it’s time to focus on other stuff, going to be buying an iMac soon, and upgrading my iPad Pro when the new ones come out. Plus I just bought a Nintendo Switch. All my money is going to other things.

I'm interested in the rumor of a bigger, cheaper, iphone if it has the dual camera set up and thin bezels.

LCD screens and touch id are not deal breakers for me.

I have the X right now and it was a great upgrade from my older 6+. A lot of differences and improvements that kept it interesting.

Now, I just have this odd itch to try android.

I love the X size is perfect but face id stinks. If they change the way it works on the new one ill probably get it.

As another member asked you, I’m confused how you think they should ‘change’ face ID? The only way Face ID will likely improve is through hardware, but I don’t believe it would be dramatic in the sense of how it will improve in one year.

it won't work on a flat desk because you aren't in front of it. you can either hold it up to your face or lean it so it stands on your desk and it will see your face. it works for me at my desk every time. and it works every time in my car too. i don't think the phone is the issue here. i could be wrong tho...

Those who have issues with Face ID on your desk simply use a wireless charging stand or any stand and Face ID works fine

As for the whole not working in your car? Good you shouldn’t be touching your phone when in your car. Anything can wait til the journey is over

Switched to Android when Gingerbread, Honeycomb and ICS was a thing. I missed iOS but did like the fact that I could have network info displayed on the status bar. Can't do any of that with iOS 11 now. Now that I have the X, switching to Android will never happen. The OLED combined with the software is awesome.

Mounted on the center AC air duct, right in the middle of the console so to speak, despite being at an angle relative to the driver’s seat, and not directly in front of me, my X recognizes my face and unlocks immediately. So, its not useless in a car, at least not for me.

If the next iPhone has hardware changes then it might be a consideration. However if the next iPhone has the same hardware with iOS 12 why would people buy it
Foldable iPhones are still a few years off
A camera with 3 lenses is possible and better camera software
Improved Face ID probable
These are just a guess at some improvements

American dream or something like that.

If there's one thing that America is really good at, it's marketing the myth.

Hard to get an itch when you do not know what you are itching for

This "itch" is really about the endless cravings of consumerism. All of these gadgets aren't making us happy. They're just making the chains a bit heavier.

I really don't get this whole "itch" thing. If the device is working for you, why would you want to waste money on a new one? I'm not trying to diss anyone (to each their own, for sure), but just genuinely interested in the reasons.

I have always been one the get the latest iPhone every year. I pass the older units down to the family. This year Apple will HAVE to come up with something that makes my want to switch from my X. My X just just plain too good to turn my back on yet! It just might go an extra year.

Does anybody else think the phrase "justify your purchase" gets used way too much

I feel the same.
