Are you staying with Apple or did you leave?

I left. My Mac Pro 4,1->5,1 is on eBay currently. It's become abundantly clear that Apple has no interest in supporting actual Pro machines, and just wants to sell headless iMacs that we can toss in the trash can anytime one component needs an upgrade. I'm not interested in that path. Also got very tired of playing their ******** game of "swap a card" anytime an OS update came out since Apple insists on using a built in nVidia driver from 5 years ago.

While I like OS X better, I am spending time on my significant other's PC laptop in an effort to learn Windows and be prepared for what I am beginning to think is the inevitable switch.

Definitely not interested to switch to window OS.

Our beloved Cook is someone who believes pro can work solely with an iPad Pro. #c'mon
So tempting to hop onto the hackintosh bandwagon.

Staying for a while. The 5,1 I've upgraded handles any task with ease, and OS X runs very well. If I need windows, I've got a couple of VMs ready to go.

Apple make no desktop Macs that interest me and it's unlikely that they ever will.

I'm pretty happy running OS X on my hackintosh - it's a wonderful OS despite some shortcomings and it works really well for me. On the other hand, if one day I can't run a hackintosh, I'll just go straight back to Windows.

I'm also on a Hac; I got sick of waiting for a new Apple tower so I built my own. I use Windows at work and couldn't put up with it at home too!

what's the difference between:

• I'm with Apple until the day I die
• I'm with Apple no matter the situation

?

(I'm with Apple) = no matter what
(no matter the situation) = if they change direction, or bring down their software to a stand still, i'll fight it out.

I'm on Mac now, anyway, so it doesn't really matter what I say... Apple's got me. (edits: gotta learn new word: a 'hac'). People and their abbreviations.

I used to use both Mac and Windows (Mac for laptops, Windows for desktop PC) and switched to Mac-only when the nMP came out. Got tired of custom-building silent PCs.

I was an early Apple user (Apple IIe). When the job started using computers they were, and still are, all PCs so I switched. Retired a few years ago and went back to Apple equipment. I still have a Windows based PC for a couple of programs and absolutely dread every time I have to fire it up!

If Apple didn't stop supplying Mac hardware that fit my standards, I might have already upgraded both of my systems. One is already going to take some fudging to get Sierra running because it's so old - If I'm going to go that route I might as well build a hackintosh that will outperform anything Apple makes for in some cases what amounts to a solution for less than half of the price.

Just humor me. …

OK :)

… people in this forum …

I guess that you meant, people who used a Mac Pro but I see answers from other people so I'll join in.

Other

I used Power Macs, and various other Macs, but never a Mac Pro.

I switched from iOS to Android.

Occasionally, I test macOS.

I'm switching from Mavericks to TrueOS.

Lol thanks.

For the cost difference, you could have hired me to build your silent PC to spec and still come in cheaper than the Mac Mini Pro.

After 10 years of exclusive use of Apple I have started building PCs again, 2 for my two oldest sons and 1 for me. The last 4 years of being an Apple-user have been very frustrating. Especially the increasing focus on dumbing down and prettyfying. The new 'Italian garbage can design' MacPro looks terrific but is nothing more than an expensive yuppie gadget.

I enjoy a cross platform environment. Android, Windows, iOS and OSX. Lots of smartphones, tablets, laptops, a server and two desktops. Plenty of variety, plus I keep current with the latest software and devices. With iPhones getting stale I've still had the fun and excitement of other platforms.

"I will not go quietly into the night..." ...

Been with Apple since it all started, will keep the torch burning for the Apple I knew, but not for the Apple I know right now... I for one will keep my older Apple computers alive, ipads be damned.

The new file system that is coming I believe will enable ipads to store much more data to the icloud - signaling the death march of personal computing and storing files privately... Mr. Cook will keep harping about "we don't need personal computing, we need ipads and icloud".. real computers are for the elite, priced out of reach from all the lower common people, ye shall subscribe to the cloud or be left behind..

But as is human nature, many will resist and fight the good fight against big brother - which was the original Apple way. So I am sticking with "Apple" the way it used to be, and the way I need it to be for myself - not Mr. Cook's way.

Built a duel boot hackintosh, just so I could check out Sierra... Runs Apple better than an Apple.....

uhuak...actually my main workstation is hackintosh...Broadwell-EP...10 SATA3 port...NVMe boot...PCIE gen 3...plenty of native USB3...DDR4ECC...ac wifi....uh...NEVER SHOW ANY BEACHBALL....this machine produce many stuff so far.

my 1st mac is MP5.1 and still new about a month ago and only CPU and SSD upgraded, the rest are stock, i'll upgrade little by little. I don't hate apple but current apple computer offering is doesn't make me interest so in the end i'm choose 2012 cheese grater.

Yea it ancient with LGA1366 machine but at least it still shape as proper PC with freedom hardware upgrade. Even in sierra mac pro has minor cosmetic bug with ECC removal from about this mac.

At the end of the day I make a living on my Mac but as the tools I use are pretty vanilla and well supported I'm fine for the foreseeable future. But I don't like where Apple is going and would love a new MacPro that isn't that crap trashcan.

The frustrating thing is, if Apple don't sell many MacPros, just get off-the-shelf workstation MBs, put them in a tower with a rose gold fascia and leave it at that.

I already wrote about this, but I built a Windows 10 PC a few days ago and I'm very happy with it. They lost a life-long Mac user.

I will stick to mac if iMacs gets a an improvement in the next 6 months. Since Im mostly using adobe product quad core cpus with high ghz is better than a ton of cores on the Mac Pro ( I use render farm for the occasional frame rendering) + I love the screen and all-in-one experience. But if no significant GPU update comes soon, Im out and I will buy a custom built PC. It will be more powerful for sure, but Im loosing the OSX and tidy feel of a Mac Computer....So I hope Apple will do right by us (and I dont care about laptops). The mac itself is what Im most happy reading rumors about, its what made me a fanboy in the first place. the Phone and pads etc are just an added bonus. So, no more macs, then I will be more reluctant buying i-products alltogether.
