fyi, samsung no longer includes a power adapter with their phones either. So them plus Apple covers about 65 percent of phones sold in the US. so yah, not knowing there wasn’t an adapter in the box is on you.

my previous phones all had chargers, including Samsungs. My last phone was a Pixel 5 and I’m sure that had a charging plug in there.

I’m just telling you the state of things now. you’re welcome to go to samsung.com and see for yourself.

Edit: took me one second to google, so here you go: https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/...harger-plug-are-not-included-as-in-box-items/

There are so many cheap, high quality GaN chargers out there now that are better in every way than Apple’s junk 5w freebie charger and whatever little wall wart everyone else includes. No point in them including them anymore. give it a few more years and they will all go away from every phone manufacturer. Like I said, Google already said future Pixels won’t have them.

That's actually the correct attitude. Don't like what the company offers, return it. Vote with your wallet. Being outraged is not doing anything as Apple already got your $1500.

Yeah I’m well aware of this, which is why I raised the idea of threatening a return. In future I’ll be sure to check my iPhone includes the display and battery just in case they remove those from the retail packaging too.

It’s a catch 22 for sure. I understand the ridiculousness of the proposition for a newcomer to the ecosystem.

At the same time, if Apple (and other manufacturers) hadn’t stopped bundling adapters with the phones, my pile of unused adapters would’ve continued growing. And a majority of those across millions of customers would end up in a landfill, even if there were good recycling options available.

A good choice would’ve been offering a redeemable coupon, one per AppleID per X years with the purchase of an iPhone… though I suppose that would be more difficult from a logistics standpoint than the route these manufacturers have chosen.

Anker makes some excellent ones. They are smaller than Apple’s and you can use them with any other USB-c devices.

People complain about this, but I’d rather buy exactly what I need instead of having dozens of wasted power bricks in my drawer.

If this were my grandma, I can understand. But this is someone who visited a tech forum, and an Apple focused one at that, with nearly hundreds of threads and posts about the lack of chargers being an issue for the last 2 years. Can't blame Apple for own's ignorance.

Besides, whenever I visited an Apple reseller here, the sales rep always asked any iphone buyer if they want to buy a charger.
True, good points for sure.

LoL. It's your $1500 man, being sarcastic in a public forum won't affect Apple. ;) My guess is you will be keeping the iphone and buy a charger, proving Apple that people don't mind.

I’m curious what would happen if you actually call Apple to complain. Maybe if enough people like you do it, they’ll change their stance.

Otherwise when iPhones go to USB-c, we may not usb-c to c cables in the box, because “people should already have those”.

Nah, I think the advice I’ve been given is excellent. In future I’ll want to see a detailed packing list from apple before assuming anything is in the box.

People are right, we shouldn’t as consumers just assume the battery or display or power plug is in there. It’s our responsibility to check the phone is even included.

so after reading some replies I just realised my pixel 5 plug will charge an iPhone. :D
Oh good! That’s a win-win for all parties. My problem is I only have old USB A wall plugs from both iphones AND iPads, but they’re useless for the USB C smaller newer version.

all I know is my phone is now happily charging with the pixel 5 plug… I had no idea this stuff was so complicated. :)

Sony doesn't even include a USB cable with theirs. That's right, you just get the phone, and that's it. But nobody talked how courageous Sony is... :D

I genuinely never thought to check the box to make sure an electronics device had the right plug inside. I just assumed it would, and it’s never been an issue that I can remember before with any gadget I bought.

I can absolutely afford to buy the accessory obviously, and I will buy the part, but I wanted to make sure first if I was entitled to a plug for free.
The Samsung S22 Ultra doesn't come with a charging brick either. Welcome to the fold...

That‘s a very Sony thing to do.

I expect Apple will do the same once they adopt USB C over the lighting port.

i know Sony still makes phones, but do they sell any?

Yeah this is the first time it bit me. If everyone is doing it then it was inevitable I was gonna get caught out by one of these companies. It just happened to be the year I chose an iPhone.

Interesting, I guess there’s no way to know for sure, but it seems possible or likely Samsung and Sony both started this after Apple did?

:D They’re pretty nice, build quality wise. But yah, kind of rare birds.

I used to be a huge Sony fanboy. I had an Xperia S and a tablet. Both has issues and customer support was nonexistent. Happy to say I never bought another phone from them. And happy to see them selling the number of phones they deserve as a result.

My girlfriend has the Ultra and we just bought an Anker 30w usb-c charging brick from Amazon.. Works like a charm and cheaper than the Samsung brick

Yeah anker stuff is pretty good. I might buy one for faster charging if it works on an iPhone.

Actually (and surprisingly), they do. Sony only sells phones in a very limited market, and they focused on niche uses and customer segment, and their mobile division is actually back in black now.

There’s a big what’s in the box section on the order page that says there’s only the iPhone and a usb c to lightning cable.

I can afford to buy one obviously, but it makes me feel sick. I genuinely thought the plug wasn’t dropped into the box correctly at the factory. This is madness.

If a buy a MacBook Pro do they expect me to buy a plug for that too?
I was surprised too when I purchased my 12ProMax back in the days. I went for Anker 20w USB-C charger. I've then bought a few more for my Apple Watch, and one for my dual charger to carry in my bag.

Anker is what Apple YouTubers use a lot. You can find great deals on Amazon. You can even buy the newer 30w USB-C chargers and your phone will charge even faster. Don't be pissed. Enjoy your new iPhone!

OP has a point.

No matter what, I will hold this petty grudge with Apple because of this. I know we’re two years in but it is complete utter garbage that they don’t include a charging brick with any of their phones now. I don’t care if someone has twenty in their house. Let them have another.
