Actually (and surprisingly), they do. Sony only sells phones in a very limited market, and they focused on niche uses and customer segment, and their mobile division is actually back in black now.

Thats a good turnaround from where they were… losing cash like a drunk in Vegas.

If only they had warned you

While I wish Apple would include a wall charger with my $1800 iPhone I can’t be the only one who ends up giving these away to college students and family by the handfuls and I still have too many sitting around. I can see why they did it ($ and environmental reasons). The boxes that my wife’s 14 Pro Max came in are tiny too - I bet Apple is saving millions.

People complaining about Apple removing the charger must throw theirs out with each new phone. I have 4 20W USB C chargers from Apple that I never use.

Like it or not Apple’s decision is environmentally sound.

Yeah in the middle of this discussion with people who did contribute thoughtful replies, i twigged that my Pixel 5 adapter would do very nicely. I always just used whatever plug was in the box of my new phone in the past.

So it has been a worthwhile endeavour for me personally seeking out advice here. I’ve learned more than thought possible about this subject. I also accept my learnings support Apples arguments in regards to doing the environmentally friendly thing.

so after reading some replies I just realised my pixel 5 plug will charge an iPhone. :D
Well, yes. That's the thing. Part of the reason why Apple, Samsung, and others have stopped including a charger in recent years is because USB chargers are interchangeable, and almost everyone has many of them knocking around already from previous devices. I'm not saying that I agree with them not being included, but the last couple of times they were I never even took them (or the cable) out of the box because I still had older ones to use. It really was a bit wasteful.

Some people are accusing the OP of trolling, but really, if you don't follow tech news (I assume he's new to this site) and you haven't bought a phone in a few years, you wouldn't necessarily know about this. I imagine a lot of people are also going to be in for a surprise when they realize they can't put their SIM card in their new iPhone 14. The average person knows very little about the tech they buy.

Yeah it does make sense now I’ve been sufficiently educated. I always just used the plug in the box, and now there is no plug I panicked. :D It will make even more sense when they ditch lightening. USB C cables can be the next thing to go from the box.

I agree. I’m surprised they’re still included. I prefer Ankers 6 ft braided cables as the Apple ones are far too short.

Someday I’ll invest in a nice multi usb c charger setup. Hoping the next iPhone is usb c.

Yeah i love technology but I don’t follow religiously. right now I’m having so much fun with my iPhone 14 Pro Max… some of the services that are new to me are really cool too. im setting up iCloud+ Emails and the privacy features are quite wonderful. Hide my email from sites and I just found out replying to them they get the hidden address only. I can even use my own domain names and it has a VPN. Even the password manager is hugely improved from the last time I saw it.

Im tempted just to threaten to send it back to see what they’ll do if they don’t give me a free plug. Anyone tried that?

They’ll say enjoy whatever it is you decide to purchase. I think you’ll find other mainstream main brands do the same thing with their flagships, btw.

I will do it and update the thread. Losing a sale probably worth $750 in pure profit to avoid sending a free plug that probably costs them less than a dollar to make…. 😂
I understand your frustration but make sure you want to give up the phone before you do this. Apple takes a ton of returns for any reason in the first 2 weeks after purchase and will not be phased by just one more. The return of all these phones or other products obviously doesn't hurt their bottom line.

Yeah others explained it already. My last phone pixel 5 still had the plug, but it’s likely whatever phone I bought this year would have been without a plug.

Return your new iPhone and buy a phone that includes a charger, if you can find one

I don’t need to now since the thread replies helped me realise my Pixel 5 plug charges my iPhone. Also as just said, I know now it’s not only apple doing it.

yeah my guess would have been they would have helped me return it, and nothing more. :D

Besides, whenever I visited an Apple reseller here, the sales rep always asked any iphone buyer if they want to buy a charger.
Thats nice courtesy from them. A nearby Apple Store i visited a few days ago, busy release day I know. Those staff didn’t mention charger thing at all, nor anyone asking.
Yeah I’m well aware of this, which is why I raised the idea of threatening a return. In future I’ll be sure to check my iPhone includes the display and battery just in case they remove those from the retail packaging too.
What’s worse, Apple will jack up the price while excluding screen and batteries to “save the planet”.
Lol

Those plugs should be device agnostic, or it will be absolutely insane: wanna charge iPhone? Buy iPhone charger. Oh, you just bought a Pixel 9? Here is the only cable that can charge your phone. If one use random cable, he/she could short the circuit and fry the phone. That’ll be exciting.

At this point I’ve got so many chargers I give them away to friends and family when this happens. A few years back I started buying multi usb port chargers for all of the different devices that need to be charged. My current favorite is the Anker 543 65w charger; the dang thing will charge my MBA in a pinch.

All the phone companies are doing this now. Not just Apple. Apple is the annoying company that started this trend, though.
Although Apple "pioneered" the concept of selling less for premium price, they are not the one started the trend. The trend was already there on cheap Android phones. I think I remembered the first Moto E that was shipped without a charger. Also, many cheap Android phones were shipped without earbuds as well. So someone already had the idea of cutting cost that way, but the innovation from Apple is to cut cost while maintaining premium pricing... 😂
