Since I’ve been using iPhones for years, I knew about this. And thankfully I had USB c bricks from our iPads and my 11 pro. And I have countless regular lighting cables.

But if I were a first time customer I’d be a little perturbed. I do wish Apple would give you the option to add one on during check out. For a fair price.

There’s a white cable in the box but no way to plug it into the mains to charge my new 1TB iPhone 14 Pro Max. Is this a mistake and Apple will send me the wall plug if I complain, or do they really think I’m going to charge it using my Dell laptop everyday?

I don’t really wanna carry a 16 inch laptop around to charge my phone.

any advice?
Quit trolling/complainimg, by now everything is ucb-c enabled, from most other brands phone chargers to cars and laptops. Your phone is also Qi charging compatible. Unless your previous phone is more than 5 years old or unless you have no other digital devices, you will have a power source.

It's a trend that will only grow. Imho, it's understandable, I have plenty of usb-chargers at home and don't need another wall-wart maunfactred only to sit in some drawer. Otoh, I probably did look pretty stupid, when I realized my new €2,8k Sony Alpha camera came without an external battery charger but with a tiny usb-c charger and a cable that doesn't work universally. Had to down another €100 for a proper charger and now the usb-c cable sits in a dawer.

I will do it and update the thread. Losing a sale probably worth $750 in pure profit to avoid sending a free plug that probably costs them less than a dollar to make…. 😂

I honestly think you're just trolling us and messing around as a joke here... This has been in the news and widely reported for 2 years now... My grandmother who doesn't go on the internet or any social media knows about this, so I doubt that you dont.

but for what it's worth I don't think Apple will care about your $750 being that they had 365billion in sales last year and are probably on pace to surpass that this year. They're going to tell you to go buy a Samsung Galaxy... Who by the way if you haven't heard also stopped including chargers in the box

I came to reply and I am sure you have gotten plenty of them already. But you can use all of your old USB A to lightening cables to charge. The one provided is the new fast charging cable (USB C to lightening). You can still charge with the old cables and any qi charging wirelessly.

I can afford to buy one obviously, but it makes me feel sick. I genuinely thought the plug wasn’t dropped into the box correctly at the factory. This is madness.

If a buy a MacBook Pro do they expect me to buy a plug for that too?
I actually like that they don't include the charger box. I wish they wouldn't include the cord either. I have too many of them piling up. It really is a waste. It's the same with the Apple Watch. I don't need or want any more bands. I wish they would sell just the iPhone and Watch with nothing else and I can add anything I require a-la-carte or whatever.

my previous phones all had chargers, including Samsungs. My last phone was a Pixel 5 and I’m sure that had a charging plug in there.
So, just curious, are you not able to use the charging box from those phones? Were those not USB C charging bricks. I thought all samsung and pixel were USB C?

It’s not an option I’ve ever seen, and I buy all off my Apple stuff directly from them. I’m not talking about what’s available to buy in the store, I’m talking about an add-on or pop up that is part of the iPhone purchase experience. Like hey, you wanna add a brick to your order?

Also, I did write ‘fair price’…

Showed up after I added a product to my bag.

Also, I suppose we view “fair” differently. $19 is pretty fair for a high quality brick for those who don’t have one. I have about 20-25 from other Apple products and other electronics I’ve purchased over the years, so it’s really a non issue for myself, and from the consumers I speak with, a non issue for a lot of others as well.

I don't understand the cable either. If these were still A>L I would want another cause they fray within a year. But I've never had a C>L ever fray since the iPhones came with them

Apple saves a buck while "saving the environment" and most don't notice because their new phone uses the exact same plug their old one did, and they weren't going to bother to change them out anyway.

For better or worse, the ship has set sail on a charger coming in the box with an iPhone. Some talking points:

-the price of the charger is built into what you pay, so you weren’t robbed of anything by not getting one and needing to spend another $19

-I have never had an apple charger stop working. I have many 10+ years old that still work fine. One charger will serve you for years to come, making a new one in the box every year or two unnecessary. This keeps billions of chargers over the next decade from being built, go in drawers, and wasted. Environmentally speaking, it’s a big reduction in waste.

-Apple can fit almost double (70% more) iPhones on a pallet. Far better shipping, which is better for the environment

-less packaging as well

-USB-C has been around for a long time, so there’s plenty of people that already have chargers

Now, people feel different ways about this for sure, but these are the talking points.
