HOW TO: Install Official MMS on iPhone 3G/3GS (3.0-3.0.1) (Jailbroken or Not)

Looking at the first post, if you are on 3.0 or 3.01 you can enable Tethering with MMS and VVM with the 6.0 carrier file. With the "official" 5.5 carrier file, you can enable the MMS feature and keep all your existing features (VVM).
I have tried everything now.
tried 5.0, 5.1, 5.5, 6.0 rebooted after each. I have entered the settings for the apn and such. I have reset network settings, reset all.
I'm on 3.0, 3gs 32gb
What happens is the picture gets to about 90% and stalls. It doesn't say error or go to the red ! it just stalls and will stay that way for hours. Unless I reboot or respring that's when the ! comes.
I put my sim in my razr v3xx and that sent mms right away. no problem.... I have received 2 MMS but then changed some stuff and now I got 2 MMS and there is simply nothing there. "New message received attachment 1" but then I go into bitesms and nothing is there.
any ideas?

Do you happen to have any carrier images? Example: If jailbroken, changing the AT&T logo to something custom. Custom image, MakeitMake text, etc. If so, delete, restart and try again. If not.. call AT&T. Tell them to delete ALL of your features/plans and re-add them and resync it back into their system. Then restart and MMS should work.
well, I don't have any carrier logos. I called att and they resent my activation but still no go. They did send me a MMS (i was on the phone with them on my iphone) and I did get the pic. But I can not send one. It just hangs there at 90%. No error no nothing just sitting.
my razr sends no problem.

thank you! thank you! for the MMS as well as the header above!!!! I can sometimes be a taker for the "wrong path," with regards to tech instructions. I took EXTRA PRECAUTIONS NOT to press the RESTORE button.
clarification for the tech challenged:
reset = press the switch at the top that elicits the command <slide to power off> (which I'd done to "reset" my iphone).
Then following the RESET, I SYNC'd my iPhone and the MMS Messaging showed up!!!!
the MMS showed up in the following path:
Setting>Messages>MMS Messaging
woohoo!!!! And the best part is it does NOT conflict with BenM's tethering. This adds life to my 3G iphone (with 3.01).

I can confirm that this works, I am not jailbroken, running 3.0 and I have both tethering and mms now. At first I coudn't get it to work on vista so I tried it on my other computer running XP and it went smooth as butter. Not sure why it wouldn't work on vista. Thanks savior for this tutorial, definitely made my weekend.
I had the same problem using my 64bit machine (which did seem to work and no error) using the:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1
No problem with the 32ibt version, and the IPCC files showed up.

Make sure at the command prompt you type in
"C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1
Including the quotation marks. In your post you're missing the opening ".
When i go into tethering, it says that charges may apply..... i just did the MMS and tethering on my 3.0 jailbroken 3G phone with the ATT 6.0 and mms sends but seems to take forever to get to the other phone...
So is this tethering free or does it charge ?

Just a follow up. I thought all was working, I was able to send without any errors but it was not getting received on the other end.
I reset cellular data network settings and all is working now. Able to send and receive
I use the tethering from Benm. Free.
It's really easy and quick to get it setup. Go to help.benm.at on your iPhone and follow the directions.
I have OS 3 and Itunes 9 in Win XP but am unable to see in Itunes where I can click 'Update' while holding the shift key. So I can't update anything. Is Itunes 8.2 required?
Also when I paste "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1 - into the command line it seems to carriage return to the next line. Is that normal or am I required to hit Enter key first?
