The white balance of a photo effects the color of everything in the photo. In a real photo you can see something familiar (say a soda can) and judge the WB. And therefore know what tint is masking the true color.

With a white background there are no such clues. Which is all we have from apple until units start hitting the real world.
Yes, we have to trust that the product photographer has corrected for white balance using an 18% grey card or ColorChecker or similar. Even doing this, there can be hue shifts in particular parts of the spectrum depending on the particular camera, post-processing software, etc. Getting "true" colors in product or art photography can be very challenging.

The marketing images aren’t photos, they are renderings, and usually not very accurate color-wise to what the actual products look like in real life. Of course renderings can also have different white points, but the various "starlight" products are so different that I’d wager they are really different colors. Probably just as different as the sundry "space grays".

I feel like an adventurer exploring a new corner of the world that no one has seen before. Starlight, you are such a mystery.
I ordered a starlight iPhone 13 since it seemed to be the only surprise of the entire event lol. I like surprises and will use a clear case.

To me it very much looks champagne. Maybe slightly darker. But not gold thank god. I already had a Space Grey Mini 5 and wanted to switch but hoped for Air colors. I love champagne so I do hope it will be exactly that.

Apple's naming is really off sometimes. I mean when they call something Sierra blue? Well at least you know it is blue. But Stardust? That can mean anything with a lighter color.

I own the white 12 Mini and it looks like the white 13 Mini is almost the same. A darker warmer white color, some reddish tone to it. But my Mini 12 white has nothing to do with those starlight Mini 6 pictures. Why do they use the same name for different colors (13 / 13 Mini and iPad mini 6)? So strange.

That pink on the iPhone 13 looks nice, which is probably why I’m not 100% going for purple yet.

Sierra Blue is great, much better than Sky Blue by the looks, which turned out to be almost silver in some conditions.

Looking forward to the Mini side by side.

The reviews should come out in the next few days... that should clear things up.

But too late for everyone who already ordered one ;)

Was better in precovid days, when the press got to do a hands-on with the device directly after the apple event... that way you could see the colors in real life footage a bit earlier.

How would I describe Starlight, in a word? Ugly.

Seriously, it's the color of watered-down urine. I don't know whose bright idea it was to replace silver with piss-yellow, but they should be fired or at least moved to a less influential position.
That’s awesome! Watered-down urine is my favorite color:)

Starlight is going to match the fur of my cat (his body, not face): :)

Don't know how a cat photo got in here

I might change my order from Starlight to Space Gray. The only thing is that Space Gray has always been different on every product. It's hard to tell what we'll actually get.

Why does iPhone 13 get to have Midnight? Even closer look. It doesn't look bad.

On this picture I do not like the silver. It looks too yellow. I like purple but unless I go with a purple case it’s hard to match. So boring grey it is.

From the descriptions, it sounds like what jewelry people would call unplated white gold. Plated white gold is silver because it’s Rhodium-plated. Unplated white gold does not have the Rhodium plating. When compared to yellow gold, it looks white/silver (even 18K unplated white gold, when 18K yellow gold is a very rich gold) but when compared to a white metal like platinum or plated white gold, it has a slight yellow cast.

This is unplated white gold with platinum accents.

The Starlight iPhones look practically identical to the silver iPhone 12's but the iPads look like you have some urine mixed into it. I typically buy all my Apple products in Silver, I went with the iPhone 13 mini in Starlight & the iPad mini in Pink. The Pink & Starlight iPads both look silver-ish in certain lighting, but catching that yellowish hue in certain lighting/angles would just be too much of turn off for me. Pink it is

My iPad mini arrived this morning. I'm a little underwhelmed at the starlight colour. For me its definitely not as yellow/gold as the images on the apple website make out. I was hoping it to be a more champagne colour however when I've sat it next to my MacBook Air which is silver you can barely tell the difference between the two.
I've only noticed a slight difference in colours when you place it on certain surfaces, when the sides are in a shadow there's a more neutral colour tint to it.

Love the Mini! Its perfect for me as I found my previous iPad too large for what I wanted.

Hope you all enjoy yours!
