Can I just go to settings and erase all content and settings, and then start my iphone up as new iPhone that way though? Or do you have to plug into iTunes and restore to set up as new?

That’s what I did and my battery life improved...

Gotcha, I may do that then. I'm not Really sure what the difference is between "restore" and "erase all content and settings"? im assuming both let you start as. New iphone so there really isn't a difference in terms of getting better battery life? Correct me if I'm wrong

Also anyone else who did a new set up as iPhone, what method did you use?

I think the difference between "restore" and "erase all..." is that restore will load a backup in place. Whereas the "erase all" will wipe the device.

Your best solution to getting the best battery life from your phone is to truly start fresh, with a full device "erase all".
But -- one very important note -- it is recommended to do the new software installation (erase) via your computer (iTunes).
Wireless (wifi) upgrades and installs can install with corrupt settings/data. This can cause problems with usability, system slowness, and...bad battery life.

I learned this the hard way from allowing some wifi software updates -- sometimes it is fine, sometimes it is not.

Plugged in via USB cable to a computer and using that to manage the installation is the least error-prone method (just saying that nothing is 100% guaranteed).

I’m confused. So you mean after I have erased all settings and contents then I should only do future updates thru iTunes..? Or when I am doing the reset all settings and content to have my iPhone plugged into usb to connect to iTunes?

This is my battery life. Right now it’s at 52% hoping to hit like 6-7 hours most! I don’t think I’ll ever see a day hitting 9-10 hours of battery life. I don’t know how u guys do it! This is with moderate usage...

But he’s going to lose his data such as messages, health data I don’t think it’s worth it...

Try deleting the youtube app and go a day or two and see what happens to your numbers

That is the recommendation I have been given by longtime network/IT people. As I said, nothing is guaranteed to be 100% error free, but a wired connection will be superior to a wireless connection. Meaning that the data is more likely to be complete. I have updated via wifi in the past -- and usually it has been fine, ie, I didn't notice any problems. But with one or two updates, I have had problems. Many people who update over wifi never encounter problems (as far as they're aware). A wired connection just eliminates that one possible point of failure and data corruption which can happen over wifi.

Definitely not as good as my Plus (when they were new).

Still got a couple days left; might return for the 8 Plus.

Went to bed last night after 8 hours 2 minutes usage and 14 hours 40 minutes standby, with 50% battery left.

I used it yesterday mostly to receive phone calls via Apple Watch or BT headset while on a bike ride, plus all my text and notifications were checked and replied to on my apple watch. But I also to read on my Kindle app for 3.7 hours yesterday (black background white text). I only spent 5 minutes checking Mail and Safari. I have it set to push iCloud email and Hotmail, and manually fetch my other 8 emails. I have location on for some apps, as well as background refresh for some apps turned on. NO low power mode. PS: I left it in my car for my bike ride and used AirPods with my AW Series 3 LTE.

I woke up this AM after almost 8 hours of sleep and it went to 9hr 51min Usage and 22hr 30min overnight, at 40% battery left. I read my Kinlde book for about 20 minutes over the next couple of hours with black background/white text and after 10hr 15min Usage and 24hr 34min standby I decided to plug it in at 37% remaining at around 11AM.

I plugged it in after that and fast charged it for 90 minutes, and now I'm at 1hr 9min usage and 4hr 25min standby, at 96% remaining. Still NO LOW POWER MODE at all during any of this time.

I'm sure that using Safari and Facebook would have killed the battery twice as fast. That's what I'll test next. I'll see if I can kill the battery by 12mn-1:00AM when I go to bed in 8 hours.

I don’t think ur using the phone too much

What you need to do is connect it to iTunes and RESTORE. ITunes restores work differently. It first wipes your phone and re installs iOS 11. That is a fresh version of iOS with nothing on it. Think clean installing Windows on a PC. After it finishes installing, it’ll ask to restore from a backup or set it up as a new iPhone. That’s when you “select set up as new”.

Erase all content and settings isn’t a proper clean install. You will only be deleting your data. Not the OS. If something’s corrupted in your OS, you will not get rid of that. Restoring through iTunes deletes the OS and re installs it. That’s what you need.

Mine is doing fine. It's not as good as the Plus, but it lasts me all day. Granted, I haven't turned off a lot of the power saving settings I normally would, so that may have a lot to do with it.

Today was a very lazy, rainy day. I got 7.5 hours of use on my iPhone X, plus 1 hour of standby. Combination of Facebook, YouTube, web browsing, a couple other random apps, and the new South Park game. All via WiFi, 50% brightness, auto-brightness off, True Tone on. Facebook was the biggest battery killer.

For comparison, I usually get around 11-12 hours of usage on my iPad.

But that’s a hassle u lose out on data, sms and pictures not worth it!

on LTE most of the day. some of these people are barely using their phone and saying 'phenomenal battery life.' what a joke.

- used google maps, uber, and apple maps a good amount of time. these were the big battery killers.
- was out and about most of the day so on LTE. on WiFi in the morning and evening.
- a good amount of youtube, yelp
- screen brightness very high for a good number of hours since i was outside
- this is why i hate usage. it doesn't mean anything.
- on verizon network
- disabled background app refresh
- reduced white point to 70% during certain times. triple tapped side button to enable/disable

I agree people with 8+ hours of battery life are barely using their iPhones! that's how they're hitting high numbers~

blah Blah blah....I'll see if I can kill the battery by 12mn-1:00AM when I go to bed in 8 hours.

So I tried to run the battery down since 5PM, and read my book on Kindle pretty much continously since my last post 7 hours ago (throughout the whole Broncos game, didn't miss much). And now I'm up from 1 hour usage to 7 hours of usage and over 11 hours of standby, with 58% battery left. I've spent 6.4 hours with Kindle on-screen in the past 24 hours, and most of that was this evening accounting for 74% of usage.

So I don't have enough time to run the battery down tonight before bedtime as planned. So far my best is still 10hr 15min Usage / 24hr 34min standby before I decided to plug it in at 37% battery.

I'm pretty sure if I went to low power mode right now at 58% that I could get it to last until bedtime tomorrow, but I'd rather start the day tomorrow with a full charge.
