How much of the 5 and a half hours is actual screen on time though?

I don't know exactly but I suspect less than the total time.... I don't pretend 10 hours of web navigation (perhaps anandtech talk about 10 hour of web navigation), but 7 hours would be fine!

Hey Guys

Have had problems I think since day one. Went from an iPhone 4 that would last at least 2 days with the same usage to a 5s that is usually at 30% with the same usage by end of day. Brought it to apple. They said it looks fine and did a restore. No change. All they said is that I have a lot of crashes from apps and a restore would fix. I'm usually on wifi all day at work or home and all background etc is off. Also when I use FaceTime for more than a few minutes the phone turns into a fireball. There are three things that bother me compared to my old 4.

1. Obviously the battery life
2. When I unplug the phone from charging even though it says 100% on charge after charging overnight it goes to 99 or 98 after unplug. Anyone else have this happen?
3. And the burning battery which drains insanely on FaceTime.

Attached photo from right now. All I've done is browse the web this morning and this is what I got.

If you were browsing the web for an hour and a half then you have good battery life..

Hello everybody!
My iphone 5s battery life sucks! Literally!!! I have the phone changed ( a brand new one for a refurbished and little scuffed one) a month ago for the battery not doing correctly....
I could reach barly 5:30 hours with my usage ( iMessage, what's app, a little Facebook and web browsing). I have deactivated background refresh, spotlight search, even the parallax and I have notification push only for whatsapp, Facebook messenger and 1 mail account. I close all the apps after every use and I have no localization service for the system ( only weather, Siri and camer) I don't take many pics and I have also tried with setting the brightness manually to the minimum visible....
Yesterday I'm gone to the apple store and the "genius" said me that is all ok ( one other genius have a 5s and had 2 hours of use with 79% of remaining battery..... I do 2 hours with 40% of battery... The genius told me that is the same usage.... Really a stupid)
So when I returned home I have called the apple service and they suggested me to restore the iphone from another PC because I have crashes from safari and a few other apps..... I have done this with the Mac mini of my father and now I am waiting, but I'm not very confident in a result.... On the telephone the call center girl said me that I can send the iphone with courier to repair, but she is not sure that the technicians can replicate the problem.... So there is the possibility that they will not replace my phone again...
I'm a bit disappointed from apple... Please give me your advice on this situation

What about the signal strength in the place where you live/work ? It affects the battery life much more than every thing you have disabled ....

This screen shot is just from this morning. I've been on WiFi the whole time, and the usage is pretty much all screen on time. I typically come home from work and my phone is around 50% with 7-8 hours standby and 4-5 hours of usage. I tuned the batter percentage toggle on for the picture, but typically I keep it off.

In my experience the switch between 3G and EDGE is the primary culprit for short battery life ...

Mmm I'm going to think that the next big upgrade in battery life is iphone 6! I'm considering using the iphone without making so many paranoias about battery life!

P.S. Are you from italy? Where? I'm also from Italy near Florence!

My battery stats after a full day of usage.

If the iPhone 6 will be slightly larger, it will have a bigger battery and maybe a better battery life (it depends on screen consumption).
By the way I'm quite happy with my iPhone 5s: I can use it all the day with a 20% left at dinner time.

Ps: I'm from Milan but I live in Rome.

this is my week old iPhone 5s

This is my week old iPhone 5s. does this usage seem OK to you guys??

i have background app refresh off.

location services is on for only camera, safari, weather, and yelp. and under system services everything is on except diagnostics & Usage, location-based iAds, and popular near me.

brightness was kept around 50-60%

i didn't have any music, so usage is purely on screen time. didn't play any game.

i was mainly using for iMessage, Facebook (videos), youtube, and internet growing.

i upgraded it from android phone. so, have no idea if it's good or bad.

Thanks

P.S. i was on LTE whole time with full bars.

48% remaining.

Usage: 3 hours 32 minutes
Standby: 1 day 13 hours.

Love having a phone that doesn't need a daily charge with typical use!

That is lower than I get, but I do not have brightness at 50-60%, I am more 20-30%….

If you want more, turn down the screen and see what happens.

Quick question. Does "usage" actually equal "screen on time"? That's how I was used to measuring battery life on Android devices.

Usage does not necessarily means screen on time. If you listen to music with screen off, that counts as usage too.
Hope it helps

No it does not so using that statistic to campare battery life is next to useless. Usage is whenever the phone is not asleep.

Hello everyone! I know this may seem like a dumb question but i switched to tmobile from Verizon. I now have unlimited data. I noticed that when I have wifi off I have 4g speeds but when wifi is on, internet connects really fast but my battery drains. This is a 4 day old iPhone 5s so any tips are greatly appreciated.

I can't see any correlation between wifi and a faster battery drain.
Quite on the contrary LTE is supposed to be more demanding for power consumption.
Maybe the problem is related to your wifi access point ....

Comcast Internet router... And the guy at tmobile told me that since I have unlimited data there's no point of using wifi at home.
