Disappointing battery results from both GSM Arena and Phone Arena.

62 hrs from GSM Arena is ok. Not bad but still WORSE than the M8. GSM Arena puts too much emphasis on talk time. Also only 7+ hrs Wi-Fi browsing is not very good. GSM Arena's video playback test involves non-HD loop which doesn't stress the screen too much.

The 6 hrs and 25 min from Phone Arena seems closer to the Tweaker score. Disappointing. Based from PA & Tweaker, M9's about average at best. 7/10 or worse. And the 7-8 hrs Wi-Fi and video playback scores from GSM Arena doesn't confirm the SOT will ever be very high. Neither 2015 flagships from Samsung and HTC really improved on battery this year. It simply got worse. At least charging time on the M9 isn't long anymore. But so far between S6 vs M9, the M9 is clearly the worse when it comes to battery life. Three sites already confirmed it esp from PA which doesn't put emphasis on talk time for a more accurate SOT score.

After reading GSMa, PhoneArena, Verge, and Anandtech, things don't look great.

Anand especially cite benchmark cheating (anandtech.com/show/9102/the-htc-one-m9-review-part-1/4) whilst GSMa note a significant drop in performance after the software update which essentially throttles performance so the S810 doesn't melt. Battery life is seemingly worse and the camera is slow to shoot, lacks OIS, and is very poor in low light and recording 1080. Then PhoneArena say the screen is crazy cool.

Most buyers aren't geeks and won't look much past the good external appearance and the 20mp number, but I'm a bit shocked at these review findings. And I'm very sceptical as to how much any software update will help.... I mean they've had a year to prep it.

A bit sad really as I was looking forward to a big HTC comeback. M8 looks way better VFM.

Two of the three areas I was focusing on is BATTERY LIFE and CAMERA.

SCREEN is a push. Perhaps color reproduction might be slightly better but unless the screen went from 5 inch to 6 inch, I will likely see a negligible difference.

It seems HTC went reverse again. Improve camera (albeit worse at low light) but WORSE at battery life. If I had to choose between having better battery life vs camera, I will pick battery life every single time. They have two cameras anyway along with editing features.

I think M7 was the BEST-LOOKING One. But last year's M8 is the BEST One, period. Most balanced for me. M9 may have a scratch resistant metal but who really cares? I sold my mint M7 for practically dirt cheap because no matter how well you take care of an HTC, nobody really wants an HTC phone no matter what condition it is in.

M9 with a 8.3 score from PA is just a GOOD smartphone but not a GREAT ONE like its predecessors and plagued by AVERAGE battery life which plagued the M7. One out of nine flagships with very good battery life is a horrible track record from HTC.

According to Anandtech the screen is actually worse than on the M8. I am so disappointed..

TBH given the reviews - if I was in the mood to buy a HTC One - I'd just by the M8 instead given the poor post processing on the new camera.

Whilst the resolution of the M8 camera is poor - you can take some beautiful photos with it.

2014 - 3.jpg

Given the M8 will get 5.1 & Sense 7 - I see no reason why anyone would spend 2x the cost on the M9 when the M8 can be picked up for €300-350

Aside from tech geeks who digest all the spec upgrades (which seem to have issues), they're gonna have a hard time when the average buyer walks in and asks why they should be paying twice as much for what, to them, looks like the same phone. People like change regardless if it's for better or worse. Samsung must be pretty happy with the situation right now.

I was cringing reading some of the reviews. It almost reads like they must have known there were shortfalls with the camera, display, CPU, and battery but had no choice but to run with what they had and patch things up with software.

I'd take a £250 M8 over the £580 M9. Or just go with the iPhone 6 or S6. Suspect others would (and will) too.

Sad to read all these M9 reviews last night.

Basically battery life is no better, and possibly slightly worse than the M8. And it looks the same, and Sense 7 and Android 5.0 work just like they do on the M8, really no benefit or major new feature the M9 has over the M8.

One thing that irks me is the thickness of the M9, but still only a 2800mAh size battery. I am totally fine with a thick phone, but it then needs a giant battery in it. Look at the Galaxy S6 being super thin at 6.8mm and has a 2600mAh battery, but the M9 is much thicker at 9.4mm, so it should have a beefy battery like 3500mAh something like the Motorola MAXX phones at that thickness.

If HTC is going to have a smartphone so thick being 9.4mm, they should then design it hold a massive MAXX size battery, otherwise being that thick is useless in 2015.

Imagine if the S6 was 9.4mm thick, they could shove in some humongous battery in it. But the M9 is that extra thick, and barely has a larger battery than the S6.

Maybe they tried to compensate for a SoC with heating issues with more room to cool?

Talk about thick and bulky, I still have my HTC Rezound. I even bought a larger battery for it back when. Needless to say I don't carry or use that beast much anymore.

Sigh, what could have and should have been:

HTC-One-M9-Plus-52-inch-01.jpg

Though, if the camera and battery reviews were the same, it'd still be a pass, but at least it'd have a better fighting chance against the S6/Edge.

HTC One M9 Plus is becoming more and more real. HTC just announced another event: http://www.phonearena.com/news/HTC-...r-April-8th-dual-camera-One-M9-in-tow_id67583

And here are leaks: http://www.phonearena.com/news/Live...e-M9-Plus-crop-up-again-confirm-specs_id67582

The thing is ugly, in my opinion. This will not save them. I don't think they know what the heck they're doing this year.

I saw that this morning on a few blogs. But I am pretty sure the release is just for China.

That's... weird, too. I think.

A mere 5.2" bump for China? With a physical home button? But not for anyone else? : shrug :

I don't know. And I guess, I don't care. lol. I am beginning to care less and less.

They just seem... kind of random and directionless to me.

M9 & Edge compared

Pis it me or does the Edge miss a lot of interactions (swipes from sides) and why is it some of the animations seem choppy or out of place such as app drawer one.

I would love M9's software in the Edge. O to dream...

I'm sure due to Touchwiz.

I will be at BB within the hour so I will check if they have this set up so I can try it.

I better not walk out with one but I would have 14 days. :)

Dude, the truth of the matter is you just know how to compose great photos!
Proof that it really is the eye of the photographer and not the equipment itself that can make a beautiful shot.
Regarding the camera, I also wish (like I think a lot of others do) that HTC would just get their act together regarding putting decent cameras in their flagship phones. Used to own an M7 64 gb D.E.; nice phone but the camera didn't seem much better than an early iPod Touch's (slight exaggeration). It was terrible in my experience.
When will they learn?

HTC's head designer stepped down (or something to that effect).

Maybe because he didn't do anything this past year, am I right, guys?! Hahaha. :( :(

I checked it out yesterday and it was snappy and everything but I just don't care for the design, especially screen vs body ratio.

I did not spend long with it, it was on display on a kiosk at BB and I had to do the initial setup to do anything with it.
