Apparently there is a new software update (coming?) out that improves the camera. Nonetheless, it is just bizarre that HTC chose to use some random Toshiba sensor at opposed to the Sony sensors that every other manufacturer uses.

I see the marketing is off to another fantastic start by the way

Thanks for the info Petvas. How are you liking the M9 so far? If you don't mind can you give us a little run down? :) Maybe some random pictures?

I had posted my impressions here: http://forums.androidcentral.com/htc-one-m9/510452-five-days-m9.html
If you want to see some pics I took with the M9 then have a look here:

Overall I love my M9. I don't care what the reviews are saying. What I care is that when I hold the device, I don't want to use anything else. Yes, it's not perfect, but there is no such thing.
I love the design (even better than the M8). The speakers are much better compared to the M8, with more clarity. The display is for me also better, with more realistic colors than on the M8 which had very warm colors. Battery life could be better, but it's not bad (and it's probably a Lolipop issue). The camera is very good, especially after applying the settings from the XDA thread. Only video recording is really bad, but it's not important to me.

I just cannot do it. The darn screen versus device ratio is a real killer once again.

This time Sense 7 comes to rescue. You can change all navigation buttons. One of the functions you can add is to hide the navigation bar completely. That means, that if you want to have all 5" for the running app, just tap on the hide button and the app will use all 5". It works very well.

Good to see your M9 takes better photos post update. HTC's phone ought to get re-reviewed for the post update. Now, the only problems are heating and battery life? Both the M9 and S6 aren't expected to get huge battery boosts regardless. Both phones also having heating problems. My S6 Edge heats up a bit on the charge and when in use, but it's fine for now.

I have a European device and there was a day 1 update that is now being deployed in US devices. The camera is really good. Most reviewers do not care to customize any settings and this is the problem of HTC. They should have an automatic mode that produces great pictures. This is unfortunately not the case. The settings of the XDA thread work very well (apart from saturation. It should stay at 0).

That's a good point and should have been HTC's priority out of the box - just get a good point and shoot mode so casual users are happy.

I bet many users (of any phone) will only be viewing photos on their device anyway instead of pixel peeping in Photoshop.

Is it possible to change the location of the on screen buttons? Just like on custom roms, where you can move the back button to the left or right, for example.

Not taking any risks is what will get them destroyed by Samsung and the GS6.

Yep. They're going to get burned this year by the S6/Edge and the iPhone 6S. After those two, the remaining players will be vying for a distant third. Where HTC will end up, who knows. It'll largely depend on what Motorola, LG, and to a lesser extent, what Sony do.

Top players: Samsung, Apple

2nd level: HTC, Moto, LG, Sony.

Of those, I think LG has the best chance and resources to encroach on Samsung/Apple. Maaaaybe Motorola with Lenova's backing. But Sony? I wouldn't count on it (I love Sony devices. It's a real shame). And HTC, little to no chance.

Their "singular" design philosophy comes at a price. They are not Apple. They can't get away with "singular" design philosophy bologna.

This.

It's all well and good a designer championing the merits of bauhaus minimalism, pebbles and thephone feeling human but, unfortunately for HTC, they don't appear to have read the market too well and do the numbers.

Surely they had an inkling Samsung would up their game? Surely they knew the camera wasn't up to scratch despite the proclamation of making the primary camera great(!). And then there's the 810 throttling and heat problem.

They're not going to make much this year and that's gonna impact next year's phone. Either they go conservative to save money and fade to obscurity or try a big bang approach. Either way, is gonna be interesting to see.

You hit the nail right on the head. HTC thinks they can be Apple.

Apple has a much more loyal base that's fine with basically the same design for two years. Switching from HTC to Samsung is painless.

Switching from Apple to Samsung for example is not as easy. Too many services that people may be used to. (iMessage, Facetime, apps)

Yes, very good point.

HTC will feel it this year.

I wonder what direction they'll go under their new leadership. Didn't the head of design or something step down too from HTC recently after the M9 was announced?

I think HTC will survive the year. I hope they do. It's sad to have to say this yet again after passing their current generation device but: it'll be interesting to see what the M10 will be like.

That is a great feature, hiding the nav bar. I go through so many devices that I cannot remember which one I had whereby you could hide it for the apps you have chosen to do so.

Damn, gotta look at the M9 again. :)

I've been repeating that since the M7 came out. It had two flaws, the camera and the battery life. They fixed the battery life with the M8 but still kept the same terrible camera and made it more uncomfortable to hold and I had high hopes for the M9 to be the phone that would finally be the HTC phone that wouldn't compromise however HTC let me down.

Ya. :( I feel the same way.

Hope HTC lasts... I think they will. Hopefully new leadership will steer them right. They really have to.

HTC posts $11 million profit in Q1 of 2015, expects higher revenue in Q2

At least they are making money and should be around for a while.

HTC posts $11 million profit in Q1 of 2015, expects higher revenue in Q2

HTC has posted their quarterly earnings for Q1 2015, and things look decent for the company. Revenue sat around $1.36 billion, up from $1.08 billion last year, and HTC actually managed to turn a profit instead of a loss like they did in the first quarter of 2014.

They only pulled in $11 million in profit, which isn’t massively successful, but anything is better than their $66 million loss from their previous first quarter.

HTC expects to bring in around $1.5 billion next quarter, so hopefully the HTC One M9 helps the company maintain profitability.
