WhatsApp/messenger and wechat have that covered.
These 2 platforms are better than imessage anyway. Like I say why bother.
I suppose if you want to surrender your personal conversations to Facebook or WeChat, you can do that, but most of us don't really want to. Additionally, it's really tough to get your family which uses iMessage natively to install a third party app.

If you want to be paranoid, then don't trust apple too. It allows 3rd party apps to mine data as well. Plus iOS is a closed system. You don't know how much **** there is inside...such as the recent Facetime and iTunes money hack

Installing an app is so difficult .. Just shows how unfriendly iOS is

You're not making much sense. Facebook has already sold all your personal data based on the conversations they mine from your messenger apps.

There is a world of difference in how Google and Apple respect your privacy.

you mean Google is paying Apple $12B to be the default search engine on iOS devices, and Apple still be okay with Facebook being in the App Store even after the incredible data mining news from the last few months.

Sorry, but Apple is more after your $$$ than your privacy. I truly hate Facebook and also a lot of things Google is doing, but Apple is not some sort of Holy Grail when it comes to Privacy ;)
If Apple can earn more $$$ in favor of your privacy, they will do this without a doubt, again...see Facebook

Why would you trust Google for mail? By signing up you gave them complete permission to read your emails and use the data any way they want, including selling it to interested parties.

There is a world of difference in how Google and Apple respect your privacy.

Google doesn’t sell your data directly. That’s bad business. Google sells ads and tailors them to you, keeping your data under the Google privacy policy.

Apple collects all the same data but does not do the ad tailoring.

Here’s the thing: google services are just a lot better than the Apple ones, so from a usability standpoint, Apple services just aren’t good enough. Meanwhile, for terms I can read online right now, I can get the best of AI and mail from Google.

There is a feature called RCS coming out. It will eventually have many iMessage like features for SMS/MMS. It will allow for things like typing notifications, read receipts, and larger file transfer size.

I have long since moved on from using SMS at all, and talk to people over other Apps FB messenger, What's App, Signal etc.

Not sure why any one would want to use SMS these days.

Also Android is customizable. If you want blue bubbles just make them blue

Much Ado about nothing. Has any major privacy issues surface for to Google? Billions use their products and nothing has happened. Did anyone discovered major detrimental uses of your personal data - None.

Is apple any better? Big NO. In quite a few countries there are major unauthorized monetary breaches by iTunes affecting hundreds of users. Apple tried to cover up as usual by gagging the banks/credit card and users.

At the end of the day nobody who uses the internet has real privacy. Google has its claws everywhere so even if you think you are avoiding Google getting your information your really aren't. Using an iPhone just decreases it slightly. Furthermore I've never heard of anyone who has been negatively affected by Googles practices. But you continue thinking that you are safe because you use iPhone if it makes you sleep better at night :)

I also wish iMessage was an app, but it will probably never happen because it's a way for to lock users to the Apple Ecosystem.

Which is a shame, because if they made iMessage an app on Android, iMessage would probably become the largest messaging app in the US, UK, Canada, and a few other countries. In other words, iMessage would pretty much become the Whatsapp/Wechat/etc of the US, etc.

If Apple was truly serious about their switch to "services" as a money maker, iMessage on Android would be a no-brainer.

And how would Apple monetize it?

Who cares. The world ex-us don't use iMessage. Even the US with 50% of population using android don't use iMessage.

iMessage is just irrelevant... Only ifans make a big deal out of it.

Both your statements are absolute nonsense.

Really? :p Why?
You completely fail to understand how important iMessage is in North America. It's so popular in the United States, it's actually keeping people on iPhone.

By and large, Americans don't want to install a service like Whatsapp to handle their messaging. Americans want the default service.

And I know you didn't mention this, but RCS doesn't cover it. Apple and Google shouldn't have to rely on carriers to implement messaging. iMessage is amazing because it enables all the RCS features people want with none of the carrier involvement.

Considering many Americans use Android devices or various other non-Apple devices, seems like that's somewhat more of a generalization than anything else.

It's just a fact at this point. iMessage is Apple's greatest service and one of the leading causes of iPhone lock-in. People really want iMessage. No one in North America wants to join a service for their messaging app.

And I was just responding to the idea that iMessage wasn't a big deal. It is a big deal. It's the biggest single messenger deal in North America.

Not sure how that's a fact given so many people using non-Apple phones/devices with plenty of messenger services being in use (even by those on Apple devices). There are certainly those who prefer Apple devices and many of them might do it for iMessage as one of the main reasons, but it's certainly not something that would rise to the level of some sort of absolutes/extremes of all "Americans" or "North Americans" wanting something or no one wanting something else, or even really close to that.

What percentage of Americans do you think use a custom app to replace texting entirely?

Here's what we know:
32% don't off the bat (iMessage is the only supported texter on iPhone)
the other 68% are android users. Now, unless 50% of Android users use a custom act like Signal or Facebook messenger to complete replace texting, iMessage is the dominant messenger in North America.

It's also the only one that really sells a device. People stay on iPhone because they want to keep iMessage.

Make a counter argument. North American isn't China. We use Facebook Messenger, Snapchat, and Whatsapp here and there, but by and large we text using the default, and for one in three of us that's iMessage

I don’t care about iMessage as none of my contacts use it even those with iPhones. The reasons I stay has nothing to do with iMessage. However I’m in Europe.

I always fall for the Samsung galaxy phones because they are amazing phones. But the battery life on my S9 was horrible, so i sold it and went back to iPhone XS. I might get the s10e or S10 IF the battery life is good. But i have to say my iPhone XS is a great phone and iOS is Great.
